It comes to an end! Dell has ended the sales of its first and only Windows Phone device Dell Venue Pro. The device when got leaked created lots of buzz and excitement and later went on to become a great example of poorly executed product. Until few days back the device was available at dirt cheap price from Dell as it was selling this unlocked device at $299 at its own store whereas in Amazon the unlocked device is still available at a price of just $249. Now Dell no longer sells mobile devices ( Windows Phone+ Android) in US and expects to release few new products later this year.

Microsoft and Nokia to Invest Up to 18 Million Euros in Mobile Application Development Program at Aalto University

To drive innovation and business opportunities in Finland’s mobile ecosystem and beyond, Microsoft Corp. and Nokia will each invest up to 9 million euros into a newly established mobile application development program at Aalto University during the next three years. The AppCampus program has been set up to foster the creation of innovative mobile applications for the Windows Phone ecosystem, and in addition Nokia platforms, including Symbian and Series 40, to create a new generation of self-sustaining mobile startups.

However, one comment in particular caught our eye, from scrapplejoe, which points out a thread at neogaf suggesting Visual Voicemail is present on the Lumia 900. ZTE Announced New Windows Phone Device Called Orbit

ZTE announced a new low cost Windows Phone called Orbit at MWC. This new device will feature the new Tango specs with 256MB RAM and will compete with Lumia 610 in China.
The handset will come with 4 GB of internal storage and a 5 megapixel camera with LED Flash, according to WinphoneXAP. It will also be HD Voice enabled.
The device will be on sale in Q2 this year.

Microsoft Brick & Mortar retail stores in US is now taking pre-order for Nokia Lumia 900 device. The Nokia Lumia 900 4G LTE device was announced at CES last month and is expected to launch on March-18th from AT&T. Even the price of the device was rumored to be $99 from AT&T under 2 year contract.
By paying $25, you can now pre-order the device in Microsoft’s physical stores and you have to choose between Cyan & Black colors upfront. No other details regarding the price and date of availability was told to customers who pre-ordered the device. If you are near any of these Microsoft Store locations, consider a visit to the store to make the pre-order.

45% of the Second Gen Windows Phone Market is Owned by Nokia

Generally, the way we come by the statistics that have to do with the smartphone of mobile phone market it is by the installations of certain apps, particularly games. Such is the case with the latest numbers that come to us from OccasionlGamers data on game installs.
The data shows that when it comes to the Windows Phone second-generation handset market, Nokia has 45% of the market. HTC isn't far behind though with 40% and the next is Samsung with 12% of the market. The remainder with parts of the market is FujitsuToshiba, ZTE, and Acer.

It's been a long time coming, but you can finally buy a Nokia Windows Phone in the US. T-Mobile launched the Lumia 710 today in black and white for $49.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and with the requisite 2-year contract. We still think it's a fair price, despite the few qualms we had with the device when we reviewed it, but the forthcoming Lumia 900 puts a damper on our enthusiasm for this device a bit. However, it's not for us; it's for first-time smartphone buyers, and still seems like a solid choice for that market. Despite the Lumia 710's status as an entry-level device, it's exciting to see Nokia have a major US release for the first time in months.

AT&T - first carrier to offer LTE Windows Phones

During AT&T's CES Press conference, Microsoft's CEO Steve Ballmer mentioned that AT&T will be the carrier of the first Windows Phone smartphones taking advantage of 4G LTE network. The first model to become available will be HTC Titan II - the successor of the high-end model will now feature 16-megapixel camera. However, HTC will not be alone. Nokia's CEO Stephen Elop announced that Nokia LTE Windows Phones are also coming to AT&T. He didn't give more details, but they will be available later in the day - Nokia's press event starts at 3pm PST. We expect nothing else than Nokia Lumia 900.

'Smoked by Windows Phone' challenge to transition into an ad campaign

This certainly shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who saw the news about the challenge before, but it is looking like the $100 challenge that we've seen at CES to beat Windows Phone on speed will likely become an advertising campaign for Microsoft. The challenge itself has reportedly been going quite well for Windows Phone, at last check it had 21 wins and only one loss and one tie, but of course the challenge wasn't exactly a fair fight. Distimo report finds the WP7 Marketplace has passed Blackberry App World

In their look back over the past year, Distimo has confirmed in their monthly report that Marketplace is now the 3rd largest app platform, after iOS and the Android Marketplace, and the 4th largest app store, after the iPhone app store, iPad app store and Android Marketplace.
Blackberry App world takes up the 5th position followed by the Nokia Ovi store.
Of note is that Marketplace showed the biggest growth of over 400% year on year, and that the Marketplace for Windows Mobile never passed 2500 available apps.

Okay, Windows Phone handsets may not be perfect when it comes to malware and exploits, but they are definitely safer than their Android counterparts, don't you think? Well, we now know of at least one person in the world who would disagree with that statement, and the disturbing part is that their job expects them to be much more knowledgeable on the matter.
What you see below is an excerpt from a conversation between an Orange service representative and a subscriber. In a nutshell, the unsuspecting user is being misled into believing that Windows Phone devices are prone to getting viruses, while Android smartphones are more or less immune to such problems.

Dell Venue Pro on AT&T finally getting the Mango update

Every time we think we have seen the last of the Mango update, another forgotten handset on a slow carrier pops up which still needs to be updated.
In this case Microsoft has announced that the Dell Venue Pro on AT&T is finally getting Windows Phone 7.5.
Of course at this point we have already started moving on to 7740, leaving the handset once again once step behind.

Windows Phone Marketplace now at 40,000 apps

The Microsoft Windows Phone Marketplace has now reached the 40,000 app milestone. New apps are being added to the store at a rate of 165 apps a day. A breakdown of the apps submitted over the past 30 days shows that games comprise only 15 percent of apps submitted, while 68 percent of all apps were free, 23 percent paid, and 9 percent paid with a free trial.
Of the 10,882 apps submitted in the past 90 days, 10,731 came from different developers suggesting the platform has reasonable backing across the developer community. Based on the current rate of growth, the Windows Phone Marketplace will reach the 50,000 app milestone in early January 2012.
