HTC Ville detailed: HTC Sense 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, thinner than iPhone

HTC Ville detailed: HTC Sense 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, thinner than iPhone

Posted on Nov 10, 2011 by MG1

We just got the scoop on another brand new HTC handset, which will be part of the company’s Mobile World Congress announcements alongside the HTC Edge we detailed yesterday. The HTC Ville (codename) is set to launch in April with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and, for the first time, HTC Sense 4.0. The smartphone will feature a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED display, and is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon Series 4 processor. In addition to those specifications, the HTC Ville will house an 8-megapixel backside-illuminated camera, just like the one on the HTC Edge, with 1080p HD video capture support. We’re told the handset won’t feature NFC due to the metal construction of the case, and ...

HTC Rezound starts shipping early because you can't stop the Beats

HTC Rezound starts shipping early because you can't stop the Beats

Posted on Nov 10, 2011 by MG1

When HTC took the wraps off the Rezound, it tipped us off to a November 14th launch for Verizon's Beats Audio-branded device. Now, it appears that those of you who jumped on the pre-order bandwagon are getting premature access to the red-and-black-tinged goods, with some units arriving as early as today. How'd this come about? Well, it seems a few eager beavers lucked out during the purchasing process, selecting overnight delivery and receiving the phones toute de suite. We can't promise you Big Red's still honoring this ordering quirk, but don't let that stop you from trying your luck. We have a feeling Dr. Dre would approve.

HTC Edge may be the first quad-core smartphone to market

HTC Edge may be the first quad-core smartphone to market

Posted on Nov 08, 2011 by MG1

Color us skeptical on this one, but rumors are coming down the pipeline about an HTC phone called the Edge. It's supposedly going to be the first Tegra 3-powered smartphone. According to Pocketnow, the device will supposedly offer a quad-core 1.5GHz CPU, 4.7-inch 720p HD display, 1GB of RAM, an 8MP rear camera with f/2.2 lens and Beats Audio. Curiously, no LTE capability was mentioned specifically, though 21Mbps HSPA+ appears to be good to go, and there's a slight possibility of Sense 4.0 being included -- which given its proposed launch window of late Q1 / early Q2 2012, wouldn't be a huge surprise. We'd love to start seeing more quad-core goodness headed our way, so we're definitely keepin...

HTC EVO Design 4G for Sprint

HTC EVO Design 4G for Sprint

Posted on Nov 08, 2011 by MG1

The HTC EVO Design 4G continues the popular EVO line for Sprint, but for a fraction of the cost of what you’d normally expect to pay for the high-end Android smartphone line. The EVO Design 4G is attractive and has that unmistakable HTC build quality, and it runs Android 2.3.4 and runs HTC’s Sense 3.0 UI, so the phone is fresh and mostly up to date. It also supports Sprint’s WiMax network, hence the “4G” in its moniker, so you can expect fast web browsing and speedy data-intensive apps.
While the HTC EVO Design 4G is priced nicely at just $99, it doesn’t feel too much like a budget handset. It certainly has a few drawbacks, and it’s a little on the thick side compared to most of today’s smar...

HTC details Android 4.0 ICS upgrade for 8 smartphones

HTC details Android 4.0 ICS upgrade for 8 smartphones

Posted on Nov 08, 2011 by MG1

Many have wondered what HTC's plans are when it comes to upgrading its existing Android smartphones to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, as the manufacturer has said that it was still evaluating the new operating system and how it fits with HTC's custom Sense interface that it likes to use. Now, those questions have found answers, as HTC has announced a list of eight smartphones that will get Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades in 2012.
The company says that in addition to the just-released HTC Vivid, which is apparently ready for Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL, HTC Sensation XE, HTC Rezound, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G, and HTC Amaze 4G are all planned to get...

Posted on Nov 07, 2011 by MG1

AT&T’s first two 4G LTE-enabled smartphones are now available for purchase, and subscribers looking to be among the first to own these powerful new Android devices are in for a pleasant surprise. Announced just last week, the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket and HTC Vivid feature Google’s Android Gingerbread OS and specs that place them on par with most modern high-end handsets. They were also announced with high-end price points; the Vivid was unveiled at $199.99 and the Skyrocket was given a $249.99 price tag. Both phones are now on sale as promised — they became available a day early on Saturday, in fact — but each smartphone is priced $100 lower than expected on AT&T’s website. Read on for ...

In the above video they compare the newly releases Samsung Focus S with the HTC Titan, which will soon arrive on AT&T and the HTC Radar, already available on T-Mobile USA.
Interestingly, despite the Samsung Focus S being slim, sleek and with a great screen, the other handsets do seem able to hold their own, especially in the screen stakes.
Which handset will our readers be choosing? Let us know below.
The Samsung Focus S is a new Windows Phone with a 4.3” S-AMOLED Plus screen, HSPA+ data speeds, and a 1.4 GHz single-core processor. The phone has an 8-megapixel rear camera, a front-facin...

HTC Vivid and Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket go on sale, lead AT&T's march on LTE

Posted on Nov 07, 2011 by MG1

You didn't expect Ma Bell to open its first LTE markets without tossing in a few 4G friendly toys, did you? Of course not, we told you as much last week -- but today things get official: The Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket and HTC Vivid (formerly known as the Holiday) are ready to take Ma Bell's new LTE nodes for a spin. Not much has changed since the last time we saw these phones -- the Skyrocket still knocks the Galaxy S II's screen size and processor speed up a notch (a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus Display and 1.5GHz CPU, for those of you keeping track), and the Vivid still has a 4.5-inch qHD display, 1080p HD video recording via an 8MP rear camera and a 1.2GHz CPU. What's new? AT&T is curren...

HTC announces specifics on Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades, includes Rezound

HTC announces specifics on Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades, includes Rezound

Posted on Nov 07, 2011 by MG1

It's been a little over two weeks since Google unveiled Ice Cream Sandwich along with its first ambassador, the Galaxy Nexus. Since then, a few manufacturers have shared their intent to bring Android 4.0 to specific devices. HTC was initially rather vague about its upgrade plans -- no doubt faced with the daunting task of keeping Sense relevant in light of ICS' vast design improvements -- but tonight the Taiwanese giant issued an official statement on Facebook outlining specifics on its Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades. Basically, it looks like most (if not all) of HTC's high-end phones since the introduction of the Sensation will be getting a taste of Google's latest tasty treat early next year,...

UK: Three, Vodafone now offer HTC Sensation XL

UK: Three, Vodafone now offer HTC Sensation XL

Posted on Nov 04, 2011 by MG1

HTC Sensation XL, the Taiwanese company’s biggest Android smartphone announced to date, is now available at British operators Three and Vodafone. Three is offering the device for free to anyone willing to put his or her signature on a two-year contract with at least 34 GBP/month plan. That money gets you 500 minutes, 5,000 messages and 1GB of mobile data every month.
As for Vodafone, it offers the Sensation XL for free on plans starting at 41 GBP per month that include 1,200 minutes, unlimited texts and 750MB of monthly data.
Now this would all be cool if HTC’s big baby had a dual-core processor and unfortunately it doesn’t. In that sense I’m not sure why the Samsung Galaxy S II and HTC Sens...

AT&T HTC Titan to have Beats Audio

AT&T HTC Titan to have Beats Audio

Posted on Nov 04, 2011 by MG1

We are expecting a BIG announcement on the 7th in New York, with the massive HTC Titan for AT&T being the front-runner when it comes to devices expected to be launched.
Now a tweet from HTC’s USA twitter account featuring the #HTCBeats tag not only confirms that HTC will be involved, but strongly suggests the HTC Titan, already announced for AT&T, will feature Beats Audio.
While we know Beats Audio is mostly just a gimmick, its still good to see the Titan getting the full range of HTC’s available services, rather than inexplicably being a second class citizen.

T-Mobile HTC Radar for $49 from Wirefly

Posted on Nov 03, 2011 by MG1

If you’re thinking about buying the HTC Radar from T-Mobile today, you might want to check the internet for some better prices first.
Wirefly.com has the HTC Radar for only $49.99 with a new or renewed 2-year contract from T-Mobile, and that includes free shipping!
Through T-Mobile, you would pay $149.99 with a 2-year contract, and then have to hassle with a $50 mail-in rebate which only brings the price down to $99.99. Frankly, $49.99 is the most I would pay for a phone with only 8 GB of storage space.
The HTC Radar is a new Windows Phone with a 3.8” S-LCD screen, HSPA+ data speeds, and a 1.0 GHz single-core processor. The phone has a new 5-megapixel rear camera and a front facing camera. F...
