Posted on Nov 02, 2011 by MG1

Samsung recently asked Apple to provide it with source code for the the firmware used in its iPhone 4S, ZDNET reported on Tuesday. The South Korea-based phone maker also asked for details on Apple’s subsidy agreements with Australian carriers Vodafone, Optus and Telstra. The moves were part of an ongoing lawsuit in which Samsung has accused Apple of infringing on three of its patents. Apple believes Samsung has no need to access the information, but Samsung’s lawyer argued that there are fewer subsidies available for Samsung’s products if subsidies are given for the iPhone 4S. Additionally, the source code may be just as important in proving that Apple is infringing on patents. Read on for m...

Unfortunately, it seems like short battery life is no longer just a worry for Android users, because Apple has battling its own troubles with the iPhone 4S. There have been widespread complaints that battery life in the iPhone 4S is unnecessarily short, even after users turn off persistent battery draining services like iCloud, Siri, location awareness, and Ping. In our informal poll from last week, we found that a significant number of users were noticing a problem.
Now, there are reports that Apple may be contacting users directly to find a solution to the problem. One user has claimed that Apple had contacted him and asked that he install a diagnostic tool on his iPhone 4S. That user tol...

Speaking with CNET, Gazelle chief gadget officer Anthony Scarsella said his company saw a “spike” after Research in Motion’s recent BlackBerry service outage, which spanned three days in some areas, but that Apple’s latest iPhone is mostly to blame for the surge. “In the grand scheme of BlackBerry [trade-in] growth over the past month, it can be pretty much entirely attributed to the launch of the iPhone 4S,” Scarsella explained. During AT&T’s third-quarter earnings call on Thursday, CEO Ralph de la Vega discussed the continued success his company still sees from the iPhone 3GS. ”We have another device that I think is going to dramatically change those people that are on smartphones and quick messaging devices, the 3GS, which is free with a 2-year contract,” de la Vega explained. “We’ve seen tremendous, tremendous demand for that device even though it’s a generation old. And actually, we’re getting more new subscribers coming on to the 3GS on the average than other devices. So we have an inventory sold out on that device.” Pretty impressive for a phone that made its debut in June, 2009. AT&T said it sold a total of 4...

Verizon has announced its Q3 2011 financial results, confirming that around two million iPhone 4 handsets were activated during the three month period, and revealing that first-day iPhone 4S sales were so strong that the carrier still lacks stock. Posted on Oct 21, 2011 by MG1

Speaking during the AsiaD conference in Hong Kong recently, Samsung’s head of global mobile product strategy Won-Pyo Hong denied reports that the Galaxy Nexus was designed to avoid lawsuits with Apple. “At the time this was not really an issue,” Hong said, speaking about the design process of the phone. “I don’t know where that rumor is from.” The gossip started with an early report from an industry insider who suggested Samsung delayed its planned launch in San Diego due to last minute tweaks that were required to avoid patent lawsuits. Then on Wednesday, Yonhap News Agency quoted Samsung’s mobile head Shin Jong-kyun on Wednesday as saying, “We will avoid everything we can and take patents ...

Posted on Oct 20, 2011 by MG1

Samsung specifically designed the Galaxy Nexus to avoid patent lawsuits from Apple, Samsung’s mobile chief Shin Jong-kyun told Yonhap News Agency Wednesday. “We will see if it will be 100 percent free” from patent infringement lawsuits, he explained, noting that the current ongoing patent war with Apple is in its fledgling stages. “I think it is just a start and [the battle] will last for a considerable time,” Shin explained. “I don’t think there is much gain. What we are losing is the pride in our brand. We will avoid everything we can and take patents very seriously.” Samsung originally said it had postponed its San Diego press conference, during which it was supposed to launch the Galaxy ...
