T-Mobile CMO: no iPhone 5 on our network this year
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleT-MobileiPhone 4s
Hopes and dreams = shot. We've had a sneaky suspicion all along that T-Mobile would likely be the only major network not playing host to an iPhone 5 launch party this year, but we still kept our heads high because no official denial had been given from the company's C-level. That's now changed, since T-Mobile CMO Cole Brodman slammed us back into reality at a town hall meeting stating: "we are not going to get the iPhone 5 this year." It's a hard pill to swallow in such a short summation, but there might be a glimmer of hope -- technically Brodman only referenced one specific name. Since there's always a possibility that Apple will choose a different title for its fifth-gen device (or even a...

iPhone 5 Apple A5 processor reportedly spotted
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
What’s tipped to be the iPhone 5′s Apple A5 processor has been caught in the wild, the latest in a series of what’s said to be component leaks for the upcoming smartphone. The picture, posted to Chinese site Weibo, shows a board section that differs in design from the only public implementation of the A5, the iPad 2.
Opinions differ, however, as to the component’s authenticity, particularly because of the somewhat smudgy nature of the A5 processor labeling itself. The board is believed to be from an iPhone prototype, and uses a different battery to what’s inside the current iPhone 4; the existing smartphone has a 1,420 mAh pack, but what can be seen of the battery next to the A5 chipset sugg...

iPhone 5 jailbreak should be pretty easy
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
At today's MyGreatFest jailbreaking convention, master hacker P0sixninja announced that a jailbreak should be coming pretty quickly to the iPhone 5, in a far shorter amount of time than was necessary for the iPad 2 jailbreak. The good news is all thanks to the Chronic Dev Team, which has found 5 bootrom exploits in the A5 chip which powers both the iPad 2 and the iPhone 5.
A reliable jailbreak proved hard to come by with the A5 and the iPad 2, because the bootrom is found inside the A5 chip and required a lot of hard work to reverse-engineer and find the exploits. That's why it ended up taking about 4 months to find a reliable jailbreak for the iPad 2. However, since then, the Chronic Dev T...

China Mobile has already gotten a positive answer on a TD-LTE iPhone from Apple
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4
China is one of the key markets for Apple - after all it has the most customers in the world and smartphone usage is booming. Cupertino has opened a couple of official Apple Stores in the country, there seem to be plenty of unofficial Apple retailers and now China Mobile, the world’s largest carrier, seems to be close to getting a deal bringing it a 4G TD-LTE version of the iPhone.
“China Mobile and Apple hope to find a solution for close collaboration,” China Mobile chairman Wang Jianzhou said in an interview. “We discussed this issue with Apple. We hope Apple will produce a new iPhone with TD-LTE. We have already got a positive answer from Apple.”
China Mobile currently doesn’t offer the i...

iPhone 5 to have radical new design according to Case-Mate images
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
The iPhone 5 hasn’t been announced yet, but that has not stopped accessory makers from posting upcoming cases for the highly anticipated handset. Case-Mate has published a page on its website with six different case designs for the new iPhone 5, and we’re loving the radical new body shown in the images. We’ve heard tons of speculation that the iPhone 5 will be thinner and lighter than the current model and these cases suggest it will have tapered edges and a slim profile as well. Finally, the images appear to an aluminum back on the fifth-generation iPhone, which also jibes with earlier reports. The iPhone 5 is expected to be available in the United States in October, so we’re not surprised ...

Sprint iPad on the way alongside iPhone 5?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesTabletsAppleiPadiPhone 4s
We know that the iPhone 5 should be coming to Sprint in October but the third-largest mobile operator may also be getting the Apple tablet to go along with it.
According to 9to5Mac, Apple has prepared a 3G iPad which will be compatible with Sprint’s network. This is different than the Verizon 3G iPad but the report doesn’t mention whether there will be WiMax 4G support or not. I don’t picture Apple being the biggest fan of WiMax but I think that having 4G in an iPad could be a very cool thing.
The AT&T version has a 3G iPad but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the next version have AT&T’s 4G. The issue is that having 4G on each network will require different radios and Apple generally doesn’t ...

ASA decrees iPhone 4 is thinner than Samsung Galaxy S II
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungAppleiPhone 4Galaxy S II
For a while, the Samsung Galaxy S II supposedly claimed the title of world’s thinnest smartphone – thinner than even the iPhone 4. We all just assumed this was true but Apple knew the real truth and it continued to advertise the iPhone 4 with this title in commercials. So, the U.K.’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) received a complaint on the matter and decided to step in to solve things once and for all.
Let’s get to the nitty-gritty: The iPhone 4 has a flat, uniform design, which means everywhere you look on the device is going to be exactly 9.3 mm. The Samsung Galaxy S II does not have a uniform design, particularly noticeable with the odd bulge on the bottom side. At its thinnest p...

iPhone 5 hitting UK October 21 in 16 GB and 32 GB varieties?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
An O2 sales rep has let slip that the iPhone 5 will be landing on October 21, which lines up quite nicely with earlier rumours we had heard from Best Buy. In addition to that, a Vodafone page temporarily listed 16 GB and 32 GB models in both black and white, which are some details we hadn’t heard much of yet. While neither of these hints are anything conclusive, it reaffirms most speculation that we’ll be seeing an announcement in the next couple of weeks.
The iOS 5 device software is just about ready to roll, and with it a handful of new features, like an unobtrusive notification system, while the hardware may include an 8 megapixel camera and a larger screen. Even those details are on sha...

iOS 5 landing on October 10th, iPhone 5 on October 15th?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsAppleiPhone 4siOS 5
AppleInsider is reporting that AppleCare has been informed to prepare for a swarm of inquiries on or around October 10th regarding iOS. And no, I don’t think it’s because people are suddenly going to forget how to use their iPhones and iPads that day. The report signals the release of the highly anticipated iOS 5 and iPhone 5.
Now, it’s important to note that AppleInsider’s credibility has often been hit or miss. In fact, we have a bit of a warning:
“While AppleInsider cannot verify the accuracy of the information provided, the tip did include specific details on call volumes that suggest the details are at least plausible. However, since the details come from an unproven source, the informa...

iOS 5 gold master to reach iPhone 5 last week of September
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsAppleiPhone 4siOS 5
Apple is expected to ship the finished version of iOS 5 to manufacturers the last week of September, Concord Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo understood from sources on Monday. The current schedule would have the iPhone 5 and fifth-generation iPod touch get the completed (gold master) OS between September 23 and 30. He explained to AppleInsider that, with preloaded firmware, the devices should take about 10 to 12 days to ship and will conveniently line up with an iPhone 5 release in the first half of October.
Large-scale assembly is believed to have started in late August without available firmware. It's unclear how many will be ready on launch day and whether Apple will have enough to suppor...

Sprint rumored to retain unlimited data with iPhone 5 launch, prove unicorns are indeed legit
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
Here's the word straight from Bloomberg's unnamed sources: Sprint's not only getting the elusive iPhone 5 -- it's keeping an unlimited data plan around just to sway buyers who may otherwise spring for the AT&T / Verizon Wireless variants. Furthermore, these folks in-the-know have good reason to believe that it'll be launched "next month," which gives Apple a shockingly small amount of time to invite us over for a west coast reveal. As it stands, the only folks who'll get limitless data with an iPhone 5 on its existing US carriers are those with grandfathered plans; any new customers on Ma Bell or Big Red will be forced to select one of many tiered options. Not surprisingly, neither Sprint no...

Adobe finally brings Flash to iPhone and iPad
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesTabletsAppleiPhone 3GSiPadiPhone 4iPad 2
During the IBC trade show in Amsterdam on Friday, Adobe officially took the wraps off of its new Adobe Flash Media Server 4.5 and Adobe Flash Access 3.0 products, which will allow iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users to access Adobe Flash content. Apple, which has long rejected Adobe’s Flash technology, doesn’t need to approve the tech for it to work, either. “With Adobe Flash Media Server 4.5, media publishers now have a single, simple workflow for delivering content using the same stream to Flash-enabled devices or to the Apple iPhone and iPad,” Adobe said in...

iPhone 4 shipping times slip to 1 to 3 days
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4
Shipping times for the iPhone 4 have extended to 1 to 3 days at Apple's online store, checks show. The one exception is the 16GB black Verizon model, which is still shipping within 24 hours. iPhones have been available in a 24-hour window for the past several months, making any new delay unusual.
Once an Apple product reaches the one-day shipping threshold it tends to remain there until an update is imminent, at which point the company lets stock dwindle and ultimately vanish. Today's iPhone delay all but confirms plans to release a new iPhone within the next several weeks; recent reports have pointed to a narrower target in early- to mid-October, possibly as soon as October 7th. Apple's mai...

iPhone 5 test photo supposedly leaks
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
It may look like a tempting plate of uni, hirame and other sushi delights, but this photo may actually be the first publicly-spotted photo taken by the iPhone 5. Caught on Flickr, although the description suggests it’s the product of an iPhone 4, the EXIF data says different. Cropped down to roughly 5-megapixels from its original 3264 x 2448 – or roughly 8-megapixels, the expected resolution of the iPhone 5 camera – the location data suggests it was taken by an Apple engineer eating lunch in the campus canteen.
If this really is the product of an iPhone 5 prototype, then photographers have some fun incoming. According to the EXIF, the camera that shot the image has a 4.3mm f/2.4 lens, a cons...

iPhone 5 pre-orders now available at Deutsche Telekom
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
Apple has yet to announce it’s fifth-generation smartphone, but that apparently won’t stop German carrier Deutsche Telekom from selling it. Bloomberg reported on Monday morning that it has confirmed with Deutsche Telekom that, beginning today, DT subscribers may begin reserving Apple’s next-generation iPhone 5 smartphone. The carrier will hand out coupons to customers who reserve the device, despite the fact that no confirmed details surrounding the next iPhone are available. Not even the name of the device is confirmed at this point. Apple is expected to launch a fifth-generation iPhone and an updated fourth-generation model some time next month. Invitations to a special media event at whic...
