Sprint will offer unlimited data plan for the iPhone 4S
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
A Sprint spokesperson gave us a ring to let us know that the newly announced iPhone 4S will be eligible for the carrier's unlimited data plan. According to Sprint, pricing will start at $69.99 for unlimited data and 450 talk minutes, with the Simply Everything unlimited calling and data running you $99.99. At the very least, the company's confirmation that the plan is sticking around will help the third US carrier to nab the iPhone stand out among its predecessors. We'll add some PR as soon as it hits.

Lack Of NFC In iPhone 4S Won’t Impact Market
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
While not entirely surprising, yesterday’s announcement of the new iPhone 4S did not include a mention of NFC (near field communication). Although many hoped for the inclusion of the short-range wireless technology which serves as the backbone for current and planned mobile wallet systems, Apple still has plenty of time to integrate NFC into future handsets. It’s possible that NFC will even arrive in the upcoming iPhone 5.
But will Apple’s decision to skip NFC in the iPhone 4S have an impact on today’s market? Not likely, say analysts.
NFC forecasts, to date, have varied. ABI Research estimates there will be 35 million handsets shipped this year, and double that will ship next year. IHS iSup...

Samsung looking to ban sales of Apple iPhone 4S in Italy, France
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungAppleiPhone 4s
Not a day after the new Apple iPhone 4S was announced, Samsung filed patent infringement lawsuits against Apple in Italy and France with an intent to block the sale of the new smartphone. The company also plans to file suits in other countries attempting to block sale of the iPhone 4S.
"Apple has continued to flagrantly violate our intellectual property rights and free-ride on our technology," said Samsung in a statement about the suit. "We will steadfastly protect our intellectual property."

Samsung compares the iPhone 4S with its Galaxy S II
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungAppleGalaxy S IIiPhone 4s
If our “iPhone 4S vs competition” chart is not good enough for you, maybe you’ll like Samsung’s own chart. They’ve prepared a table that compares their flagship smartphone, Galaxy S II, with the brand new iPhone 4S. Needless to say, the Korean company wants to show us their product is superior in many aspects.
For instance, the Galaxy S II has a bigger screen – the AT&T version has 42% more screen area (length x width), while Sprint’s and T-Mobile’s Galaxy S II will have 58% more screen area than the iPhone 4S.
When it comes to connectivity, the Galaxy S II’s HSPA+ network speeds are at least 50% faster with AT&T 21Mbps and three times faster with T-Mobile’s 42 MBPS than the iPhone 4S’s 14Mb...

Apple stock drops 5% after the iPhone 4S announcement
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
Investors obviously expected much more from Apple with the company’s stock falling as much as 5% after the iPhone 4S announcement. To be fair there are some neat services that were also announced, some of which pretty much open new businesses for the Cupertino-based company. However, few words we wanted to hear never came out of Tim Cook’s mouth — you know words like LTE and NFC.
Then again, the market was also down (about 1.5%) during the announcement, so I guess the 5% drop isn’t a complete picture. What’s more, the market reacted similarly when Steve Jobs announced the iPad (Apple’s stock fell 2.5%), only to rebound after the lower-than-expected price of the new tablet was unveiled.

iPhone 4S Bluetooth hints at new accessories
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
Want more proof the iPhone 4S isn’t anything like the iPhone 4 on the inside? Take a look at its Bluetooth specs. Apple’s new baby supports Bluetooth 4.0. The ultra-low power wireless system is also found in the latest MacBook Air and Mac Mini, but hints at a whole new range of accessories for the iPhone 4S.
See, Bluetooth 4.0 can pulse once a second, sending updates or receiving data from accessories without so much as tickling the iPhone’s battery life. A single watch battery would keep a Bluetooth 4.0 signal running for years on end. With the power of an iPhone behind it, the impact of wireless data for things like pedometers, proximity sensing or medical accessories is negligible.

The iPhone 4S Camera Upgrade Explained
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
It may be that the most compelling new feature of the iPhone 4S isn’t iOS 5 or the A5 processor, but the new camera. I’ve given phone cameras a lot of guff for the generally poor image quality that results from a small sensor and bad glass, but this really is a problem that camera-makers have been trying to alleviate. And the iPhone 4S is looking like the best effort yet.
Why should you care about the iPhone’s new camera? Let’s go down the list and make sense of the new features.
8 megapixels. Well. This one is self-explanatory, but really the least important. Other phones and small cameras have high megapixel counts, and really, you don’t want or need that many. The thing is all those tiny ...

What can dual-core do for you: a course refresher what the A5 chip will bring to the Apple iPhone 4S
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
Apple just announced the iPad 2's dual-core A5 chip going into the newest iPhone 4S as well. If you are a current iPhone 4 owner, that would be the sole main reason to get the latest edition. Thus, we are reposting our article on the advantages of multicore platforms below, in order to gauge the possibilities this SoC brings to the fifth generation of the acclaimed handset from Cupertino. Besides the obvious 1080p Full HD video recording advantage, Apple also announced Infinity Blade 2, which will be optimized for the iPhone 4S, and also a beta of Siri, the voice command assistant, whose integration wouldn't be possible without the A5. And that's just a start...

iPhone 4S release date sneaks out early onto Apple site
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
Eager to hear about Apple’s iPhone announcement today? So are we, and so are some of Apple’s Japanese webmasters, by the looks of things. Official information about Apple’s Ginza store in Tokyo is announcing the iPhone 4S will be available starting 8:00 AM local time on October 14. That’s a date we’ve been hearing a lot about, and it’s likely to pan out for the U.S., and hopefully many other international markets on the same day.
We’re eager to hear more about specs for the 4S, and if it will be accompanied by a higher-end, potentially Sprint-exclusive iPhone 5, but with the announcement only 15 minutes away, we won’t have long to find out what’s going on. At least now y’all can start schedu...

64GB iPhone 4S and 8GB iPhone 4 Show Up on Vodafone Germany's Site
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
Well the cat's just about out of the clear plastic shrink-wrap bag on the iPhone 4S. Giz Brazil had exclusive photos of Apple's new iPhone 4S over the weekend, and now Vodafone Germany's listed the iPhone 4S and a new 8GB iPhone 4 on its official site.
The Vodafone site lists 16, 32, and 64GB models of the iPhone 4S, and 8, 16 and 32GB models of the iPhone 4 on multiple accessory pages. We've heard about the 8GB iPhone 4 previously, and of course the 64GB iPhone has been rumored for years. With iPhone Day coming tomorrow, this seems like it's probably a little more than gum flapping and guesstimating by Vodafone, but it could just as easily be a dummy listing installed ahead of tomorrow to r...

Steve Jobs “expected” to appear at the iPhone unveiling tomorrow
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
Steven Paul Jobs, named CEO of the decade by MarketWatch, might have resigned as a chief executive from Apple, but he remains a chairman and is still expected to appear at the iPhone unveiling tomorrow, alongside current man in charge Tim Cook.
Reports about Jobs “expected” to appear on stage first surfaced on Reuters today, but at the same time the same report precautions that even if the iconic CEO doesn’t show up, it won’t be a huge disappointment.
"Investors would like to see Steve Jobs to confirm that he is still involved, but we have dealt with the fact that he's not going to be as involved," Capitol Advisors Growth Fund manager Channing Smith said. "We'd love to see an appearance but...

Apple iPhone 5 preview: What to expect
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
Apple is all set to unveil the next generation iPhone or two tomorrow and we thought we’d comb through the rumors and let you know what to expect. More than any other company, Apple is good at keeping secrets, so while some elements have leaked out, I’m sure there will be a few surprises.
Apple CEO Tim Cook should be the one to unveil the iPhone 5 now that Steve Jobs has stepped down but Jobs may make a special appearance. Cook did introduce the Verizon iPhone 4 and Apple may want to make this event about him and the iPhone 5. We’re guessing it’s going to be just the iPhone 5, as the invitation has a “1″ next to the phone icon but rumors still persist about a lower-cost iPhone, maybe called ...

iPhone 4S May Be a Significant Upgrade to the Current iPhone 4
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
Word is that two iPhone models are going to be announced during Apple’s event tomorrow: a brand new iPhone 5, and an iPhone 4S, which was suspected to be a slightly upgraded version of the current iPhone 4. However, it might be receiving a bigger dose of treatment than just minor bumps in specs.
BGR seems to believe that the coming iPhone 4S “ is going to be a pretty substantial bump as opposed to just an incremental update, as many are speculating.” While BGR doesn’t get into specifics, or tell us things we didn’t already know, it sounds like we’re in for more than what we’ve been expecting:
