Posted on Apr 23, 2012 by MG3

Sprint's first 4G LTE smartphones, the Google Galaxy Nexus and the LG Viper 4G LTE, will be available for purchase online and in stores today. Unfortunately, buyers won't be able to take advantage of the devices' 4G LTE capabilities until Sprint launches its own LTE network later this year.
The Galaxy Nexus offered by Sprint is the same model as offered by Verizon Wireless, and it features a 4.65-inch, 720p (720 x 1280 pixel) Super AMOLED display and 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It runs a stock version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and has a 5 megapixel camera with zero shutter lag.

It's far from a secret that T-Mobile has been cooking up its next myTouch handset with Huawei (also known as the Ascend G312), and now a phone bearing the same moniker has landed at the door of the FCC. According to the label location diagrams, it plays nice with HSPA, UMTS, GPRS, GSM and Edge, but there's no indication of whether this Huawei U8680 is the QWERTY variant we spotted at the company's headquarters. If you'll recall, Huawei has this 4-inch (WVGA) device pegged to ship with Android Ice Cream Sandwich, running atop a 1.4GHz Qualcomm MSM8255T SoC with 1GB of RAM that's supplemented by 4GB of on-board storage. Of course, this doesn't leave us with any more information about when T-Mo...

Everyone expects Samsung to introduce the eagerly awaited Samsung Galaxy S III on May 3rd. The sequel to the wildly popular Samsung Galaxy S II is the most anticipated smartphone of the year to date. According to sources for CNET, the Korean based manufacturer will introduce more than just a smartphone at the event. CNET's sources say to expect the introduction of a tablet with a 10.1 inch display but don't expect the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) as that tablet is being delayed for a quad-core processor. The tablet rumored to be announced on May 3rd will feature a dual-core processor.

Nokia Windows Phone 8 handsets showing up on T-Mobile, Verizon

Nokia Windows Phone 8 handsets showing up on T-Mobile, Verizon

Posted on Apr 23, 2012 by MG3

Moving away from the hubbub about Windows Phone 8 upgrades, we now also have increasing evidence of actual new Windows Phone 8 hardware being tested in the wild.
The latest is via DSLReport’s mobile speed test, which shows the user agent of two Windows Phone 8 handsets, one named Qualcomm Fluid and the other Nokia Fluid. Both of course have been spotted before, but now the full user agent confirms that these are Windows Phone 8 handsets running IE10.
The Verizon handset also seems pretty snappy, likely indicating LTE on board. The same can unfortunately not be said for the T-Mobile speed test.

HTC EVO 3D retired from Sprint’s lineup

Posted on Apr 23, 2012 by MG3

While we mentioned the other day that the HTC EVO 3D was part of Amazon’s penny sale until the end of the month, it looks like glasses-free 3D handset has gone missing elsewhere – Sprint’s website.
It makes sense considering the EVO 4G LTE’s debut is just around the corner, but it is interesting that it was just here one day, gone the next. The folk over at Android Police reached out to Sprint to find out what happened to the Android device. Sprint responded by saying,

Microsoft files patent for dual display phone

Microsoft files patent for dual display phone

Posted on Apr 23, 2012 by MG3

Microsoft has filed a patent for a dual display phone. While there are many other dual display phones already, what sets Microsoft’s application apart is that it would use as much of the back surface of the phone as possible, including even curling over the sides, and would ideally use a low-powered display, like e-ink, which would allow the device to display information which does not change very frequently, like the date and time, or Microsoft suggests possible device logos or tattoos.

BlackBerry has not been having the best time recently. RIM has been taking hits from every side, and BlackBerry has been losing support, but it does still have one thing to be proud of: according to research, the platform is still by far the most secure mobile OS around. Altimeter Group and Bloor Research (on behalf of Trend Micro) did a pretty in-depth analysis of the strengths and weaknesses in the security features of each of the big 4 mobile platforms - BlackBerry, iOS, Android and Windows Phone - and found that BlackBerry is still by far the most secure.

The solid lines are estimated performance, while the dotted lines are trends. NVIDIA estimates that at some point in 2013, mobile graphic performance will match the Xbox 360 and by 2014, mobile performance will surpass that of the Xbox 360.
