Shuttle Computer Handels GmbH, the European subsidiary of Shuttle Inc., one of the leading developers and manufacturers of compact PC solutions such as the world-renowned XPC Mini-PC Barebones, today announces the launch of the first model of a new product line. With a volume of approximately 3 litres, the compact XG41 fills a gap in the company's product range. Samsung NC215S solar netbook will see the light of day in Russia

Posted on Jun 21, 2011 by MG1

Anyone who's ever attempted to use a laptop on a sunny summer day can surely tell you that direct sunlight is not your friend -- that's why we like to ride out the season in our dark basement apartments. If only there were a way to harness the sun's rays for good, instead of evil -- like powering your PC while you're off doing whatever it is that normal people do when it's sunny outside. First introduced for the African market, Samsung's NC215S will be hitting Russia in early August for 13,999 rubles ($479). The netbook sports a lid almost entirely monopolized by a solar panel, which contributes to an overall estimated battery life of 14.5 hours. The NC215S packs a 1.6GHz N570 Intel Atom dua...

Elusive Acer Iconia Tab A100 coming to Walmart for $349

Elusive Acer Iconia Tab A100 coming to Walmart for $349

Posted on Jun 21, 2011 by MG1

Typically, the whole fun of spotting products in the wild is that they haven't been officially announced to the world yet, but in the case of the Acer Iconia Tab A100, we're just amazed it's finally here, and that it's so... unassuming. Just weeks after rearing its head in FCC drawings, the delayed Tab has quietly surfaced at Walmart with a price tag of $349. That sticker there says it all, but for the money you'll get Tegra 2 innards with 8GB of internal storage, a 2 megapixel front-facing camera, and a 5 megapixel one 'round the back. And of course, it runs Android 3.0 at a time when most other 7-inchers still tap out at Android 2.3 -- possibly the reason it was delayed in the first place....

Intel plans exascale computing by 2018, wants to make petaflops passé

Sure, Fujitsu has a right to be proud of its K supercomputer -- performing over 8 petaflops with just under 70,000 Venus CPUs is nothing to sneeze at. Intel isn't giving up its status as the supercomputing CPU king, however, as it plans to bring exascale computing to the world by the end of this decade. Such a machine could do one million trillion calculations per second, and Intel plans to make it happen with its Many Integrated Core Architecture (MIC). The first CPUs designed with MIC, codenamed Knights Corner, are built on a 22nm process that utilizes the company's 3D Tri-Gate transistors and packs over 50 cores per chip. These CPUs are designed for parallel processing applications, simil...

Oracle to Google: we want $6.1 billion for patent infringement!

Oracle has lawyered up and sent the suits at Google into a frenzy. The company is reportedly asking between $1.4 and $6.1 billion in compensation from Google for alleged patent infringement. That’s a hefty bit of change even for the search giant.
This is not the first we’ve heard of Oracle suing Google. In fact, this is the same lawsuit filed in 2010 when Oracle accused Google of infringing on some of its Java patents in the Android mobile OS.

The Nokia N9 is getting ready for its debut tomorrow at the CommunicAsia 2011 event in Singapore and we already know that it may be the “Lannku” that’s been rumored to be a slimline, all-touch device, instead of the QWERTY slider we’ve seen in previous leaks. And if you’re eager to see what this new Meego device looks like, then be happy to know the very first press shots have just leaked.
As you can see, it is clearly different from the aluminum slider we had anticipated. This new Meego device takes on a form factor that’s reminiscent of an iPod nano along with colorful options to boot. Other specs and details on the phone are still scant, but for a phone that’s been relegated mainly for th...

eBay Mobile app for Android updated with selling functionality

Posted on Jun 21, 2011 by MG1

Good news for mobile eBay sellers. The auction company revamped its Android application allowing users to actually sell stuff while not on their computer. Using your Android-powered device, you will be able to list an item from start to finish and even include up to 8 photos. What’s more, you can rely on RedLaser’s barcode scanning technology to prefill item details for an array of products. Moreover there are options to revise items from your “Active Selling” list, relist them from the “Unsold” list, “Sell one like this” capability (when viewing a similar item on eBay), as well as the ability to schedule an auction (start immediately or choose a later date), end an active auction, mark an i...

T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide leaked in new images

Posted on Jun 21, 2011 by MG1

Earlier this month we saw a few pictures of T-Mobile’s supposed upcoming myTouch 4G Slide smartphone. On Monday, clearer pictures and more specs were leaked. The phone — a follow-up to the original myTouch 4G that launched last year — reportedly sports a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a 3.7-inch WVGA display, support for 1080p HD video recording, a forward-facing camera for video chats, 768MB of RAM and, as its name implies, support for T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network. T-Mobile has been tight lipped on the myTouch 4G Slide, but the increasing leaks certainly suggest that the phone’s release is imminent. Hit the jump for a few more images.

HTC Thunderbolt owners, here’s a piece of good news for you. Your LTE-enabled smartphone will get the Android 2.3.4 update on June 30th! And while that’s great news for itself, there’s more — aside from the latest flavor of Gingerbread, the software upgrade will also bring video calls, including GTalk and check this, Skype Video. No more, he or she will soon be able to “enjoy” the sight using the familiar Skype interface. That said, I do expect to lose a contact or two from my Skype list in the next few days, but hey – so...

Bell to offer Samsung Galaxy S II on July 14th

Posted on Jun 21, 2011 by MG1

The Samsung Galaxy S II is getting closer and closer to U.S. soil. On Monday, a leaked screenshot revealed that Canada's Bell will be launching the sizzling hot handset on July 14th. The screenshot did not divulge any news on pricing. This discovery follows by a few days a tweet from fellow Canadian carrier SaskTel saying that the highly anticipated device will be available from the mobile operator some time next month.
Last month, online retailer Wireless Xcessories Group had listed on its web site a silicon case on sale for the Samsung Galaxy S II. As we reported, the listing leaked out the news that the Galaxy S II will be rolled out to three of the top four carriers in the U.S. as the V...

Apple's 'camera kill switch' patent enrages rights groups

We told you a few days ago about Apple's patent filing, in which a coded infrared transmission could disable your iPhone's camera. That could have a number of applications. Considering Apple's unique relationship with record companies, the primary use would be to prevent photos and video recordings of live concerts.
But the Save the Internet coalition has penned an open letter to Steve Jobs, discouraging the implementation of such a device. And they bring up some solid, albeit dramatic, points. Referring to the heavy use of cell phones in recent revolutions around the world, they point out that "This technology would also give tyrants the power to stem the flow of protest videos and crack do...

Is This The Device Nokia Is Announcing Tomorrow?

Filed in: Cell PhonesNOKIAN9

Nokia’s all set to announce something at the CommunicAsia expo in Singapore, and all signs are saying that it’s the MeeGo-powered N9. The N9 has shape-shifted a few times in its laps around the rumor mill, having started life as a QWERTY-slider and, as shown in this leaked press shot acquired by PocketNow, eventually ending up as a lil’ slab-o-glass. No word yet on any sort of specs or details beyond what’s pictured, though it’ll also come in baby blue and black hues for anyone not down with the Salmony-pink.
What’s that, you say? You thought Nokia was done with MeeGo, and was all about Windows Phone 7 now? You’re mostly right. From what Nokia VP of Product Marketing Ilari Nurmi is saying, N...
