Like UnlikeFiled in: NotebooksGIGABYTES1080
After having first gone on sale in Taiwan, and later Australia, it's only fair that Yanks now have a shot at Gigabyte's monstrous Windows 7 slate. You may recall the S1080 for its 320GB drive, dual-core Atom N570, Ethernet port, and (curious) VGA output. Or perhaps you were stoked on that optical mouse and tactile mouse button combo. Well, all that stands between you and your future LAN-partying, tablet-toting self, are 650 clams and a handful of days -- you know, given that scheduled ship date of July 1st. 19-Year Old Alleged LulzSec Ringleader Arrested in England
Like UnlikeBritish police dealing with digital crime have apprehended a 19-year-old in Essex, England, accused of participating in LulzSec's recent rash of bold online assaults. This would mark the first time an actual human's been nabbed since the Lulz riot started.
The investigators, working with FBI authorities as well, ZDNet UK reports, arrested the teen under charges from the Computer Misuse Act and Fraud Act—presumably tying him to LulzSec's wave of leaks, DDoS strikes, and yesterday's joint declaration of international internet war alongside Anonymous, the first target of which was the UK's Serious Organised Crime Agency. The BBC reports that "Searches at a residential address in Wickford, Essex...

Japanese 3DS to get 3D TV service, North America waits with bated breath
Like UnlikeFiled in: Game ConsolesNintendo3DS
3DS owners outside of Japan can look forward to missing out on yet another Nintendo sponsored video service -- at least for now. With the help of Fuji TV, Nintendo's Itsu no Ma ni Terebi (or "SpotPass TV") will bring a number of short format 3D TV programs to the fledgling handheld, including shows featuring cute animals, sumo wrestling idol girls, and daily tips on performing magic tricks. Like its Wii predecessor, this video service is currently a Japan-only affair, but there's still plenty of summer left for the big-N to make good on its GDC Netflix promise.

Hackers Target Sony Pictures France
Like UnlikeFiled in: Sony
With all the hacking of government Web sites and smaller gaming companies, it seemed like people had almost forgotten about Sony. Not so fast. Two hackers on Sunday said they had successfully targeted the Web site for Sony Pictures in France.
A Lebanese hacker known as Idahc and a French hacker known as Auth3ntiq took responsibility for the attack via a note on Pastebin.
"We found a sql injection on sonypictures.fr," Idahc wrote. "But we will not publish all the database and we didn't upload a shell (because the load_file wasn't disable)."
The duo listed a few of the emails that were in the database, many of which were Yahoo or Hotmail addresses. Sonypictures.fr is currently offline; the com...

The Internet Center for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) approved a plan on Monday that would allow people to apply for new gTLDs, like .pcmag, for example. In March, ICANN said that the guidebook for applying for a TLD would be finalized this month.
"Today's decision will usher in a new Internet age," Peter Dengate Thrush, chairman of ICANN's board of directors, said in a statement on Monday. "We have provided a platform for the next generation of creativity and inspiration."
At this point, there are 22 approved TLDs, including .com, ...

Apple nabs AirDrop trademark from Android app marketer
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
Apple had to obtain the US "AirDrop" trademark for OS X Lion from an Android app marketer, according to Patently Apple. The latter party is Urban Airship, which continues to use the name for a service in which Android developers upload an app, receive redeem codes and distribute them to other people. The trademark was transferred on May 11th, and the change took effect June 9th.
OS X Lion was only fully unveiled on June 6th during Apple's WWDC 2011 keynote. The AirDrop feature lets users quickly share files with other nearby Macs, although they must be within a 30-foot radius. Lion is scheduled to ship sometime in July.

Best Buy Battles Newegg Over Use of 'Geek'
Like UnlikeApple is battling for the right to use "app store," but what about the term "geek"? Best Buy recently sent retailer Newegg a cease and desist letter, arguing that Newegg's "Geek On" slogan and color choices are too close to that of Best Buy's Geek Squad.
Best Buy has requested that Newegg stop using the word "geek" in conjunction with an orange color scheme or power button design, and stop airing ads that seem to disparage Best Buy employees.
"Best Buy is concerned that Newegg's use of the Geek On logo is likely to create confusion among consumers and to dilute the distinctive quality of the Geek Squad mark in violation of Best Buy's trademark rights," Best Buy said in its letter, which Newe...
