The wait for the Motorola Droid Bionic is finally coming to an end, and Verizon’s first dual-core LTE phone will soon be upon us. We already know Microsoft’s upcoming Windows Phone Mango release will offer voice-to-text and text-to-voice functionality, but Tellme senior director of sales and marketing Ilya Bukshteyn told ZDNET‘s Mary Jo Foley that the HTML 5 speech tag will allow Microsoft to develop Windows 8 applications that are “speech capable.”

FTC looking at Android in Google probe
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsGoogle
The Federal Trade Commission will be taking a hard look at how Google controls Android in its antitrust investigation, according to a new report from The Wall Street Journal.
The governmental agency is looking at Google’s search practices too but what interests us is that the FTC is going to find out whether the search giant is disallowing handset makers and carriers to use competing services with the Android platform. Remember, the Android platform has grown from 0 percent of the market to more than 40 percent in just a few short years, so its importance is evident.

The rugged Samsung Galaxy Xcover runs Gingerbread and is not afraid to get dirty
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGalaxy Xcover
When it comes to rugged phones, most of them would not offer you much in terms of software and functionality, but the newly-announced Samsung Galaxy Xcover does not follow that unwritten rule. Powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the Galaxy Xcover is one full-fledged smartphone, yet it is tough enough to withstand the elements. The device is IP67 certified, which makes it resistant to dust, dirt and submersion in water at up to 1 meter for 30 minutes, so it would probably not mind hanging out in your pocket the next time you decide to go jet-skiing. Besides that, the smartphone's display is made using scratch-resistant tempered glass meaning that it will take more abuse that you would imagine...
