Verizon to kill unlimited data plans for all

Verizon to kill unlimited data plans for all

I can’t say it’s surprising but it looks like Verizon Wireless will be killing its unlimited data plan option – even for grandfathered customers – in favor of a data-shared plan, according to comments Verizon executives said.
Verizon had already killed off unlimited data plans last year for tiered data or “usage-based model” but those still on the old $30-a-month plan could keep their unlimited data. This even applied if you were upgrading your 3G phone to a 4G LTE device.

Facebook Val-You Calculator determines user's worth

Facebook Val-You Calculator determines user's worth

Posted on May 17, 2012 by MG1

Facebook is just days away from one of the largest initial public offerings of all time. The social networking site is looking to raise more than $16 billion dollars at a valuation in the $100 billion price range. Facebook is worth a lot of money, and a company called Abine has created a program to determine just how much individuals are worth to Facebook. The program, called Facebook Val-You Calculator, determines a user’s worth with the help of seven questions regarding the number of friends they have, how often they “like” things, and even their salary range. Individuals are priced anywhere from $1 to more than $100, however according to research firm Forrester, Facebook made less than $4...

Upcoming Mozilla Marketplace lacks Linux support; open-source fix in the works

Posted on May 16, 2012 by MG1

Back in March, Mozilla outlined plans to further integrate web apps into Firefox to complement its upcoming Marketplace. And while the web store will launch with Windows and OS X compatibility, the browser has -- at least for the time being -- snubbed Linux. Given that Firefox is the default browser for most Linux distros, the community behind that OS is none too pleased. Though Mozilla execs have expressed their desire to add Linux support eventually, community contributors are already working on a patch to add compatibility for GNOME desktop. How's that for taking matters into your own hands?

Sony promises big PSP, mini onslaught for PlayStation Vita

Posted on May 16, 2012 by MG1

One of the things that die-hard PlayStation fans have been disappointed about when it comes to the PlayStation Vita is the lack of downloadable PSP games that have not been made available for the Vita. One of the selling points of the new system was that people who downloaded PSP games for their previous game platform would be able to re-download them on the Vita.

GM stops advertising on Facebook days before social network's IPO

Posted on May 16, 2012 by MG1

The timing for Facebook could not be worse. Blue chip advertiser General Motors plans to stop advertising on Facebook after the company's marketing team decided that the social network's ads were not wooing new customers. The story was first reported by the Wall Street Journal, which says GM will continue using Facebook's free pages to promote its products.
Facebook's IPO is set for Friday morning and is expected to do very well. But this news adds to the growing chorus who say that the social networking giant's business may have peaked. The company reported weaker-than-expected financials for the first quarter of 2012, with its advertising business slowing and its profit dropping.

Sitting just below the well-received One V in HTCs 2012 range, the Desire C features a 3.5-inch QVGA (that's 320 x 480 pixels) display, a 5-megapixel camera, and Beats Audio. There's no word on processor or storage yet, but there'll be 25GB of Dropbox usage included with the device. HTC says it'll come with Sense 4.0, but it's more likely to be the toned down version you'll find on the One V than that of the flagship One S and One X devices.

Voyager Mobile aborts its launch due to a 'malicious network attack'

Posted on May 16, 2012 by MG1

Filed in: Cell Phones

Just yesterday, we reported that Voyager Mobile intended to throw the switch on to its service starting today, May 15th. However, something has gone terribly wrong between yesterday and this morning that prevented them from moving forward in making that leap to stardom.
Actually, taking a quick stop at Voyager Mobile’s web site, the newcomer in the wireless landscape has abruptly postponed its launch due to a “malicious network attack to its primary website.” Furthermore, it seems as though they’ve opted to delay the launch to a “time and date in the very near future.” So far, there is no word regarding the exact details of the attack, or if a specific party is to blame for it all.

Posted on May 16, 2012 by MG1

Filed in: Google

Google's been working hard lately at adding tab syncing to Chrome — first, the Chrome beta for Android synced tabs between an Android 4.0 handset and a computer browser, then a recent beta of Chrome for the desktop offered the option to sync tabs between multiple computers. Now, Chrome 19 has been officially released as a "stable" version, and with it will come the option to sync their open tabs across multiple computers as well as an Android 4.0 phone with the Chrome beta app installed. Just as Google cautioned when tab syncing arrived in the Chrome beta desktop version, the tab-syncing feature will roll out "more gradually in the coming weeks" — so if you're not able to sync your tabs yet,...

Hewlett-Packard will start making tablets again, and the first new HP tablets will run on Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 8 platform. HP is coming fresh right after it kicked its webOS-based TouchPad tablet into the gutter over poor sales. Now, the company comes back with renewed hopes for Windows 8 tablets.
HP’s chief executive Meg Whitman is restarting production as an attempt to capitalize on “the extraordinary growth in tablet sales.” Most of that, though, we should note, is iPad growth as Apple’s tablet continues to dominate the industry.
