The team behind Microsoft's next-gen operating system has issued a new update on the Building Windows 8 blog, this time detailing a few improvements to things like copying, moving, renaming and deleting files. While that's hardly something to get excited about, the software giant says these four basic functions account for 50% of all Windows Explorer usage in Windows 7, and thus they want to make sure that it is a great experience.

Microsoft had three goals in mind: creating one unified experience for managing and monitoring copy operations, removing any distractions so users only see key information, and putting people in control of their copy operations.

Droid Bionic teases boot sequence, LTE prowess to anxious onlookers

Posted on Aug 25, 2011 by MG15

This time it stars in a video clip that reveals the phone's boot sequence, which is followed by an all-important thrill ride / speed test on Verizon's LTE network. As if you needed further proof, this Moto reveals itself to pack dual cores, and as you might expect, it sports Motorola's animation-laden skin. What about the LTE test, you ask? It pulls in respectable numbers -- approximately 4.5Mbps down and 1.9Mbps up -- but as you're likely aware, these speeds pale in comparison to what we've seen on the Droid Charge and Revolution.

Adobe Lightroom 3.5 will support Olympus, Panasonic and Sony RAW formats

Adobe Lightroom 3.5 will support Olympus, Panasonic and Sony RAW formats

Posted on Aug 25, 2011 by MG15

Possessing a camera with RAW output is great, but working with those data-rich files often isn't -- not least because most manufacturers use proprietary file formats. However, Lightroom fans who update to version 3.5 (currently at release candidate stage) should discover that it effortlessly handles RAW images from a bunch of recent cameras including the Olympus E-P3 and E-PL3, Panasonic G3 and GF3, and the Sony Alpha NEX-C3 The update will also fix a number of bugs, such as inconsistent processing times and a loss of geo-tagging metadata when converting to Adobe's Digital Negative format. Time to get those psychedelic HDR images flowing.

Acer isn't pitching its new TravelMate Timeline 8481T as an Ultrabook, but maybe that's because Intel is still finalizing its list of qualifications. As it stands, the 8481T is a 14-inch ultraportable that weighs just 3.7 pounds and struts around with a 0.87-inch profile, and that's with the 8-cell battery Acer says will provide up to 13 hours of run time. And though the LCD measures 14 inches, Acer trimmed the bezel by a third so that it would fit in a 13.3-inch footprint.
