Sony Vaio Z gets the in-house teardown treatment
Like UnlikeFiled in: NotebooksSonyVAIO VPC-Z21V9E
Another official teardown, another predictable revelation: the new Sony Vaio Z's viscera are thinner, flatter and, er, more compressed than those of its predecessor. But at least this dissection is performed by an actual Vaio engineer who ought to know his stuff. In the video after the break, Shinji Oguchi explains how cooling was improved using a range of tricks, like aerating the laptop's guts via holes in the keyboard. He also splits open the innovative external media dock, which connects via Intel's Light Peak technology and uses a discrete GPU to give the Vaio Z some gaming oomph. Finally, there's a separate, speeded-up video of Shinji putting the whole thing back together again from me...

Microsoft: front facing cameras, Skype integration coming with Mango update
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsMicrosoftWindows Phone 7.5
When Microsoft unveiled the SGH-i937 Mango Windows Phone 7 handset last month, we noticed what appeared to be a front facing camera perched atop the Galaxy S II-like device. Now, the company has confirmed that forthcoming Mango flavored phones will indeed feature face-gazing shooters, along with Skype integration. The confirmation came at Redmond's TechEd event in New Zealand, where two employees also revealed that Microsoft's Lync VoIP client will soon expand to other platforms, including iOS, Android and Symbian. As for that Skype integration, the reps assured the audience that it's coming soon, though it remains unclear whether it'll come in the form of an app, or a subsequent update.

Motrola forced to pull ATRIX ads that claim most powerful smartphone in UK
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesMotorolaATRIX 4G
It looks like Motorola will end up having to rework its advertising plans for the Motorola ATRIX smartphone in the UK, as a court has ruled that it can no longer claim it as the "most powerful" smartphone available. Last month, UK consumers filed a complaint against the tagline, since the Samsung Galaxy S II sports a 1.2GHz processor, compared to the ATRIX's 1GHz chip.
This week, the UK Advertising Standards Authority said that Motorola would have to pull the offending ad, despite Motorola's protests. Motorola argued that "powerful" referred to the ATRIX's ability to run multiple devices, such as its Lapdock and HD dock, and not the processor speed specifically. The ASA disagreed though, si...

As a matter of fact, thanks to Android developer aceoyame from RootzWiki – you can already try out the latest version of Android for smartphones today. However, it’s not the “regular” update, but one that will require some hacking on your end. If you’re feeling tech savvy enough and are ready to experiment, proceed to this page where all the instructions are located. You should be aware that such a move could brick your phone if something goes wrong, so you better backup all your data and apps prior to proceeding.

In-Stat: Tablet shipments to approach 250 million units in 2017
Like UnlikeFiled in: Tablets
Although we keep writing about them all the time, tablets are still far from reaching the mainstream consumer. As a matter of fact, according to In-Stat – in 2017 tablet shipments will approach 250 million units which is like nothing compared to smartphone figures. However, this won’t stop the major consumer electronic players like Samsung, LG, HTC and of course Apple to release new products on a regular basis.

Verizon to carry BlackBerry Torch 9850 according to leak
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesRIM BlackBerry9850
Verizon will carry RIM’s new BlackBerry Torch 9850, according to a picture of a leaked advertisement obtained by CrackBerry. It is still unclear when the phone will launch, but given that it is pictured next to the aging Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play, we suspect Verizon could make the announcement in the near future. RIM revealed the Torch 9850 in early August and we had a chance to check it out first-hand during an event in Toronto. The web browser is much improved, we appreciated the thin form factor and the phone’s 1.2GHz processor zipped around BlackBerry OS 7. The BlackBerry Torch 9850 is equipped with a 3.7-inch touchscreen display, 8GB of storage and a 5-megapixel camera capable of record...

Music Search Startup SoundHound Partners With Spotify For Instant Streaming
Like UnlikeMusic search and discovery company SoundHound has inked a deal with digital music service provider Spotify to enable SoundHound users in Europe to instantly access the latter’s catalogue (of over 15 million tracks). From the sound of it, the partnership doesn’t enable users outside of Europe to cross that particular bridge just yet.
Starting today, SoundHound users on iOS and Android devices who also subscribe to Spotify Premium will be given the option to ‘Play Now in Spotify’ after identifying a song through the music discovery and recognition service. That goes for users of both the free and the paid SoundHound apps.

Nokia 100, 101 unveiled: Espoo continues its foray in the ultra low end
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesNOKIA
he Nokia 100/101 don’t aim for the sky when it comes to their specs, but pricewise they do - the basic Symbian 30 devices push the boundary of the ultra low-end as probably the most affordable color screen phones while delivering outstanding battery life.
The two handsets are nearly identical except for two things: the Nokia 101 is a dual-SIM device with an MP3 player, features not present on the Nokia 100. Both of them, though, come with an FM radio and battery that can serve you up to 25 days in standby mode, with a talk time of 6.7 hours.
