Sonim's established a rather solid reputation in the rugged phone genre, with its XP3300 Force claiming the Guinness World Record for surviving the longest freefall this past February. Now it's branching out by announcing three more mil-spec devices at this week's CTIA, two of which will be available in the US starting today. First at bat is the XP1301 Core NFC, a device that lives up to its name by supporting a tag reader optimized for the workforce. It was announced for European availability last month, and is now ready to be sold in the US. Sony promises to 'supersede' mobile gaming with Playstation Vita

Posted on Oct 11, 2011 by MG1

Mobile gaming these days has become extremely popular when compared to dedicated gaming handhelds such as the Nintendo 3DS or the Playstation Portable mainly because everyone has a cell phone on them, so firing up a game on your device is as easy as tapping your screen. Sony believes there is still a market for dedicated gaming handhelds in a world that’s being consumed by gaming on mobile devices and has even gone as far as saying its Playstation Vita will supersede the mobile gaming market when it’s released.

Microsoft Is Getting More Serious About Daily (Bing) Deals

Microsoft appears to be readying the formal launch of a Bing-branded daily deals website powered by white-label group buying platform service provider Tippr, a well-informed source tells me. You don’t have to take my word for it: Microsoft and Tippr are testing the service right now, and the Bing-exclusive daily deals site is hiding in plain sight (see here and here, or check screenshots below).
For the record, this offering is notably different from Microsoft’s earlier launch of Bing Deals, which basically features links to aggregated deals from a number of partners, including group buying service providers like Tippr, Groupon, LivingSocial, Zozi and Gilt City but also over 2,000 merchants ...

Last month, we reported about a source for Droid-Life who calls himself the Panda King. The "King" had passed along word that the eagerly awaited debut of the Ice Cream Sandwich Android build would be launched via Verizon on November 3rd with the release of the Google Nexus Prime. Today, a source for Phandroid who is considered to be an Verizon "insider" confirmed that date as well. This means we can expect an introduction of the device to take place fairly soon.
At the same time, this source said that Verizon has high hopes for both the Google Nexus Prime and the Motorola DROID RAZR. Comparing the two, the source says the word he is getting is that the Nexus Prime has...

Windows Phone Mango-powered Acer Allegro will cost 299 EUR

Posted on Oct 11, 2011 by MG1

Acer will be launching a Windows Phone Mango-based device called Allegro in Europe at some point “before Christmas.” According to Telecompaper, the Taiwanese company will ask 299 EUR for the new phone, which BTW looks as the W4 we’ve seen before (and which is pictured above). Specs wise, it will come with a single-core processor under the hood, 3.6-inch WVGA screen, HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS and a 5-megapixel camera.
In the other Acer news, they said that the Liquid Mini Ferrari Edition will also sell for 299 EUR. This little fella’ is everything but Ferrari under the hood, rocking a somewhat dated single-core 600MHz processor. Moreover, it also sports a 3.2-inch HVGA display, 5-megap...

CyanogenMod 7.1 brings support for Xperias and 20 other handsets

Posted on Oct 11, 2011 by MG1

All it took was a little love from Sony Ericsson and now CyanogenMod's latest official release includes support for a happy cohort of 2011 Xperias as well as the X8. The same goes for Samsung, which doled out a free GSII and some employment and now finds that the Galaxy smartphones are on version 7.1's list too. Wondering if your particular Droid, Optimus or Incredible can run the cyan shade of Gingerbread and its attendant perks? Then check the source link for the full roll-call of newly supported devices -- but remember, despite the increasingly friendly overtures from manufacturers, installing a custom ROM comes with certain pitfalls and can void your warranty. Got that? Now go and play s...

Apple iPhone 4S is done at Apple's highest ever manufacturing margin of 70%

Posted on Oct 11, 2011 by MG1

Proving once again that its incremental annual upgrade strategy still works flawlessly, Apple is said to squeeze the astonishing 71-73% manufacturing margins out of the Apple iPhone 4S.
According to a Deutsche Bank analyst the 16GB unit carries $170 Bill of Materials (BOM), whereas the 8GB iPhone 4 goes down to $140.
It's not only BOM, we have other expenses like R&D as well, but when it's all done and dusted, Apple will probably be making north of 60% on a single unit, considering its carrier subsidies per 16-gigger are about $450, the largest margin in the industry, and its own personal record.
This comes hot on the heels of the news that, thanks to its appearance on a new carrier and a ...
