Canon U.S.A. has announced three new PIXMA printers, MG4120 Wireless Photo All-In-One (AIO), MG3120 Wireless Photo All-In-One, and the MG2120 Photo All-In-One printers. The MG4120 and MG3120 use 802.11n Wi-Fi for networking, while the MG2120 uses a USB connection. All three printers use Canon's ChromaLife 100 ink system, which uses one black and one color cartridge. Canon claims the new ink system produces better yellows and reds, especially on plain paper. Each of the new printers can produce a full color 4x6 photo in approximately 44 seconds. The MG4120 and MG3120 also can duplex automatically.
Like the PIXMA MG5320, the MG4120 can preview photos stored on the Canon Image Gateway service o...

Production begins on ARM's Cortex-A15 processor
Like UnlikeFiled in: CPU
Semiconductor companies ARM and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) have announced the taping out of ARM's new 20nm Cortex-A15 multicore processor.
"Taping out" refers to the creation of the final blueprint of an integrated circuit before it's sent for manufacture. It doesn't refer to measuring it with a tiny tape measure.
ARM believes the 20nm process chips will deliver twice the performance of preceding generations, and ARM's other physical IP technology will be optimised around them for performance and power.

HP TouchPad Gets a webOS Upgrade from Beyond the Grave
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsHPTouchPad
Well now isn't this something. HP's discontinued-and-firesaled TouchPad got an OTA webOS upgrade today.
WebOS 3.0.4 improves the camera app, messaging, connectivity to non-HP phones, and generally "touches up" the UI and overall performance. It also delivered a nice update to webOS's developer tools, which is encouraging for anyone hoping for a not-quite-dead-in-the-water TouchPad.
What does that mean for the TouchPad going forward and the fate of webOS as a whole? Well, not as much as you might think (or hope). Word was that HP was going to determine the fate of webOS some time this week. While we haven't heard anything just yet, Ari Jaaksi, the head of webOS and services at HP, posted abou...

With launch possibly only a few hours away, the Ice Cream Sandwich toting Samsung Galaxy Nexus has gone and gotten itself a tasty little specs leak. On top of that, a tweet from Japanese mobile phone network NTT DoCoMo points to a November launch for the handset.
DoCoMo states it will be "among the first" to stock the phone in November which has also made an appearance on a printed flyer produced by the network.
Gpad.tv got hold of the flyer, which features a full set of specs that appear to be in line rumours so far. That means a 4.65 inch Super AMOLED HD 1280 x 720 resolution display. On top of that you can expect a 1.2 GHz TI OMAP4460 dual-core processor keeping the handset ticking over, ...

SandForce BSOD bug identified, OCZ first to provide fix
Like UnlikeFiled in: OCZ Technology
SandForce and OCZ Technology have released a firmware update for SF-2000 series solid state drives that addresses a nagging blue screen of death and disconnect bug that has plagued drives for months. OCZ is one of many vendors that use SandForce controllers and they have been at the forefront of the issue, working directly with SandForce and affected users to pinpoint the problem.
Although details are sparse, the firmware release notes indicate that the fix concerns a “rare” condition that may cause a blue screen error when the primary drive is woke up from either a SATA slumber mode or S3 / S4 modes. The change log also notes a BSOD error when the drive is configured as the primary unit wit...

Is TLS/SSL a Flawed System?
Like UnlikeTaher Elgamal, creator of the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology that adds a measure of encryption and security to Internet communication, sees a problem with the current system.
Speaking with the BBC, Elgamal noted that there's nothing wrong with the technology and encryption itself (SSL is predecessor of the Transport Layer Security, or TLS, that's used now), but rather the parties involved in implementing it.
TLS and SSL rely on certificates that are issued to Web companies. These certificates validate the company, acting as the company's credentials in a sense. When you shop online, the SSL cerfiticate guarantees that the company you're giving your credit card information to is whom it...

Google Search to be encrypted for signed-in users
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Google announced today that it will be stepping up security on its search feature for signed-in users. These users will now get an SSL encrypted search experience by default, which means that their search terms and results can’t be intercepted by hackers or nosy network admins. This will be especially important for those that often use public unsecured internet connections, such as WiFi hotspots at cafes.
SSL encryption was introduced to Gmail back in January of last year and Google has already been offering https://encrypted.google.com as a beta service. Encryption has also been available as an option for other major platforms such as Twitter and Facebook. In Google’s search implementation,...

Security Firms Warn of 'Stuxnet-Like' Virus
Like UnlikeSecurity researchers on Tuesday issued a warning about a virus, dubbed Duqu, that's similar in nature to the Stuxnet worm that targeted Iranian critical infrastructure last year.
International researchers alerted Symantec about Duqu last week and Symantec found that "parts of Duqu are nearly identical to Stuxnet, but with a completely different purpose"—information gathering rather than system sabotage.
"Duqu's purpose is to gather intelligence data and assets from entities, such as industrial control system manufacturers," Symantec said in a blog post. "The attackers are looking for information such as design documents that could help them mount a future attack on an industrial control faci...
