Amazon launches iPad Kindle eBook store
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsAppleAmazoniPadiPad 2
Amazon introduced a Kindle store optimized specifically for the iPad today. It’s not a native app available in the App Store, so don’t think Amazon gave into Apple’s strict in-app purchasing rules. Rather, the iPad-optimized Kindle store is accessible at amazon.com/iPadKindleStore. It only works when typed into Safari on iPad.
Once there, you are greeted with a horizontal list of book covers representing the editors’ picks. In the left column is all the main categories of eBooks as well as some of Amazon’s featured sections like New York Times Bestsellers, New & Noteworthy, and Kindle Singles. On the right, you’ll find the familiar Top 100 list of current bestselling books. For obvious reaso...

Motorola and Intel hold hands for multi-year, multi-device partnership, shipments start 2H 2012
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesTabletsIntelMotorola
Well, look who just showed up at Intel's CES 2012 keynote? Motorola Mobility's own Sanjay Jha just grabbed a bit of the limelight -- long enough to announce a multi-year, multi-device agreement that should see Intel's Medfield chips powering Moto's hardware (the second announced behind Lenovo) in the not-too-distant future. Naturally, we're guessing Android will be the OS of choice here, but we can only guess what Motorola's going to do when all of its other chip partners come knocking with new questions.

Netgear Media Storage Router priced at $299, hands-on pics
Like UnlikeFiled in: Network Attached StorageNETGEAR
The Netgear Media Storage Router we looked at earlier today will be priced at $299 for the 2TB model. Booth attendants also said the NAS / Router combo will come in other varieties, including an driveless one in which you must install your own storage — the DIY affair is said to be priced at $199. As you can see, the box is super glossy and picks up fingerprints if you just look at it, but that won't affect performance. Check out the Hands-on pictures below.

Polaroid SC1630 Android HD smart camera hands-on, is it a cameraphone or a phonecamera?
Like UnlikeFiled in: CamerasCell PhonesPolaroid
The camera modules in smartphones continually improve, and these days there are phones like the iPhone 4S and the Nokia N9 who can take snapshots as good -- and sometimes better -- than point-and-shoots. Polaroid's known for making cameras, but its newest device, a rebrand of the Aigo A8 we saw at CES last year, flips the script by taking a 16 megapixel point-and-shoot and shoving an Android phone inside.
The Polaroid version's called the SC1630 Android HD Smart Camera, and its packed with 850/1900/2100MHz WCDMA and 850/900/1800/1900 GSM radios, along with WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and an FM antenna thrown in for good measure. The SC1630 sports an 800 x 400 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen, while...

Nvidia's Tegra 3 Windows 8 reference tablet up close
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsMicrosoftnVIDIAWindows 8
We're already pretty familiar with one of the tablets Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang demonstrated on the CES 2012 stage, but the other one appears to be brand-new: the Tegra 3 Windows 8 reference platform, a hefty touchscreen tablet. We're afraid we didn't get to touch, and Nvidia won't tell us what (other than a Tegra 3 SoC) is inside. According to reps, the internals are all up to Microsoft. See what it looks like in the gallery below.

TomTom powering Samsung Wave 3 Bada Maps
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungWave 3
The ink is drying on the agreement 'twixt Samsung and TomTom for the latter's maps and location content will appear on the Wave 3 Bada smartphone. Owners of the device will get access to TomTom's global maps, point of interest information, 3D city maps as well as live traffic updates and speed camera notifications. It's premature to speculate, but given Android and Nokia's free GPS apps, we could see this as the start of a new direction for the mapping company. There's no word on if the service will be free to use or when it'll be available, but we've got plenty of other details tucked below the break.

ESPN 3D BCS Championship demo eyes-on
Like UnlikeIt seems like it's been forever since we last saw college football in 3D at CES and oh my has the technology come a long way. ESPN partnered up with RealD, Marchon, and Christie Digital to present the LSU vs Alabama BCS National Championship game in 3D at the Las Vegas Hotel theater. We left wow'd and believe everyone else did too. We walked about the theater and didn't find a bad spot, although front and center was the best. There were a number of 3D cameras in use to cover the event (details after the break) which featured the same announcers as the 2D presentation, but different cameras from different angles. Of those cameras, the most dramatic was the wireless handhelds that made us feel...
