Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
Apple is no stranger to hype and excitement at the launch of a new iPhone, but celebrations soured in China this week as the iPhone 4S launch was frozen after violence broke out around stores. Customers – along with scalpers looking to sell off the smartphone at a markup, and the gangs of migrant workers they had employed to fill the line and bypass Apple’s limit on how many handsets each person could buy – had queued overnight outside the flagship Beijing Apple store, but grew restless after it failed to open at 7am local time. An announcement that the iPhone 4S sale would not be going ahead and that would-be buyers should go home prompted abuse toward Apple retail staff, while the store it...

Key Protect IP backer shies away after discovering risks
Like UnlikeA key Protect IP backer has started to back away from bill, introduced by the Senate last year. According to the Wall Street Journal, Sen. Patrick Leahy, a Vermont Democrat, has said that the believed a new provision in the bill would require “more study.” The provision would give the US attorney general the ability to seek court orders forcing ISPs to block an infringing website’s domain names or URL.
The Protect IP Act is the Senate equivalent of the controversial House SOPA ACT. SOPA has seen companies with vested interests in protecting their intellectual property, including Sony and Nintendo, backing away from their support of the legislation following a overwhelming negative reaction f...

Pirate Bay changes from torrent file hosting to magnetic links
Like UnlikeIf you are the pirating sort that likes to download torrent files from Pirate Bay, some changes are coming. Apparently, Pirate Bay is making some moves to reduce the bandwidth needed for the site and allow fans of the site to access the website offline. Traditionally the site has hosted the torrent feeds for download.
That is now changing with Pirate Bay eliminating the torrent file hosting directly and moving to what is called a magnetic link. The magnetic link is now the default method of download and according to an insider at Pirate Bay “in a month or so” there will be no more hosted torrent files on the site. TorrentFreak says that moving to magnetic links means that very little will ch...

Research suggest web addicts brains really are wired differently
Like UnlikeResearchers in China have been conducting research on a group of men and women ranging in age from 14-21. All 17 of the people in the study are classified as internet addicts. The researchers scanned their brains and looked for differences in the brain of the alleged addicts and those of normal people that aren’t considered web addicts.
The hope is that finding differences between addicts and non-addicts brains might lead to better treatment methods. Special MRIs of the brain found that many had changed in the white matter of the brain. This is the part of the brain that contains the nerve fibers. The researchers claim that there was a change in the white matter of the brain between the addi...

In a nutshell, it works just like OnLive's cloud gaming solutions. All of the processing happens on its servers while the user is given audio and video feedback, as well as control over the input, of course. Technically, it should feel like using a Windows 7 PC with productivity applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and will even let you store 2 gigs of data in your personal cloud.
