Samsung Galaxy Note is coming to Verizon as the Galaxy Journal?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungVerizon WirelessGALAXY Note
Arguably, one can say that Verizon managed to do right by forgetting about the Samsung Galaxy S II, seeing that they eventually brought along the Samsung Galaxy Nexus before anyone else. Even though the exclusivity is short lived because Sprint is bound to start selling its own version soon, it simply goes to show how Verizon is willing to go above and beyond its rivals to get the best devices onto its lineup.
Well folks, it seems that we’ll be seeing that same mentality because the rumors point to the possibility of Big Red getting its own version of the ridiculously large smartphone in the Samsung GALAXY Note – yeah, the same one coming to AT&T officially. According to the rumors spewing ...

Verizon to stop allowing legacy Alltel devices to be activated on its network, starting today
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesVerizon WirelessAlltel
It's been three years and two days since Verizon officially closed its acquisition of Alltel, and it looks like Big Red's finally putting the sledgehammer down on activating legacy devices from the purchased network. We just received official word from a Verizon spokesperson that effective today, the carrier will no longer allow you to bring over an Alltel device to a retail outlet and get it activated on their network. If you're currently using an Alltel-branded phone on Verizon, don't panic: this new policy change only applies to handsets that haven't already been activated. We can't imagine this will affect too many users at this point, but we imagine Chad's still feeling a little bummed ...

That is the result of a survey of 15,000 people in the States surveyed by the Yankee Group. To be precise, 39% of those asked responded with Google's open source OS as the platform they will choose. Next came the Apple iPhone, which was the answer chosen by 25% of those asked. The third most popular smartphone choice was RIM which will be the device of choice for those purchasing a smartphone in the U.S. within the next half year. 9% said they will buy a Windows Phone model, while less than 2% selected Symbian or webOS.

Rumor: Nokia Lumia 900 with 12 MP camera to hit other operators in Q3
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesNOKIALumia 900
Last week Nokia announced the Windows Phone Mango running Lumia 900 at CES. It’s the company’s first 4G LTE phone and the phone that they hope will make Americans take Nokia seriously again. AT&T will be the first to offer the device, with the rumored launch date being March 18th, but what about the other operators? According to Paul Thurrott’s SuperSite for Windows AT&T’s contract with Nokia gives them a 45 day exclusivity window. Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon are supposedly considering offering the Lumia 900 at some point in Q3 of this year. It’s not going to be the same Lumia 900 that AT&T is getting however, this updated model will pack a 12 megapixel camera. Now of course this is all ju...

Bheestie Bags can save your phone when it is all washed up
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell Phones
Once you have accidentally drenched your smartphone, protocal calls for you to remove the battery and dry out the inside of the device. If you purchased a Bheestie Bag, you could quickly start the drying out process, possibly in time to prevent major damage to your phone. The Bheestie Bag is not a new product, but for $20 it could offer a second chance at life for that smartphone that fell into the pool or got soaking wet in that non-stopping rain storm. The bag contains pellets that absorb moisture. It's the same thing that those small packets of silica gel do inside a shoe box. You take your wet phone (a tablet won't fit in the bag) and remove the battery to prevent short circuits. You the...

LTE smartphones to account for nearly 5% of smartphone shipments this year
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell Phones
Smartphones capable of running on 4G LTE networks will account for between 4% and 5% of all smartphones that ship this year, according to one report. The estimates were published by DigiTimes on Monday, which cited sources at U.S., Korean and Japanese phone manufacturers including Samsung, LG, Pantech, Motorola Mobility and HTC. Android manufacturers are currently ahead of the game when it comes to releasing 4G LTE handsets but, according to DigiTimes, Research In Motion and Apple are expected to release their own 4G LTE products during the second half of 2012. The latest rumors suggests Apple’s iPhone 5 and iPad 3 will be capable of running on 4G LTE networks.

Nissan creates the world's first self-healing iPhone case
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4iPhone 4 VerizoniPhone 4s
Although the concept of “self-healing” materials might sound like something out of a sci-fi movie, an iPhone 4S case with such properties already exists. And what might surprise you even more is that it is made by Nissan (yes, that Nissan). It is known as the Nissan Scratch Shield iPhone case, and what gives it its magical properties is the same high-tech paint finish that the car manufacturer uses in some of its vehicles. The case, made out of ABS plastic, is covered with polyrotaxane-based paint, which helps it repair on its own and gives it a bit of extra grip too. According to Nissan, a small scratch will disappear in a matter of hours without the need for any user intervention. The comp...

Owners report that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is plagued by random reboots

We’re not arguing about it, but it must surely be wonderful being the Samsung Galaxy Nexus – considering that it’s the sole device on the market available right now packing Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Being the coveted smartphone it is, we’re all going to instinctively watch everything that goes on with it like a hawk, but as we know, it’s usually the problems that tend to stick out more than others. Already, we’ve reported about the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and its maddening volume control issue back in November, but this time around, it seems yet another issue is plaguing the venerable device. Although it apparently seems to be more widespread with the GSM flavored Galaxy Nexus, even Veriz...

HTC EVO 3D update removes Carrier IQ
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTCSprintEVO 3D
Last week, Sprint rolled out an update to its HTC EVO 3D handset but what many people didn’t know was the upgrade removed the controversial software Carrier IQ. Before this upgrade, The Now Network was reported to having somewhere north of 26 million devices carrying Carrier IQ, so this maintenance update shrinks that number down some. Sprint has 15 other devices carrying the diagnostic analysis software and most people don’t expect them to remove it from those handsets. Carrier IQ may have gotten a bad rep from all of the negative publicity its received over the last few months. The company’s job isn’t to dominate the world, it’s only to aggregate, analyze, and deliver data to wireless carr...

Samsung Galaxy S II and Galaxy Tab get security nod, certified for government agencies

We didn't have much to complain about when it came to Samsung's flagship phone and tablet, so we're glad to see that both the Galaxy S II and Tab 10.1 have managed to jump through the requisite hoops for FIPS certification. The business-centric feature means that both Samsung devices have been given the thumbs up for use in governmental agencies and other similarly stickler-for-the-rule industries. While the Tab 10.1 certainly isn't the first tablet to receive the certification, it's perhaps the most pervasive.

Something “wonderful” coming from Samsung to Europe, and it will not be the Samsung Focus S
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungFocus S
Professeur Thibault has tapped his sources in France and confirmed that the Samsung Focus S will never come to Europe.
Apparently this is due to carriers feeling the handsets bears too close a resemblance to the incredibly popular Samsung Galaxy S 2, and they did not need the same handset running Windows Phone 7 (heaven forbid they give us a choice of operating system).
All hope is however not lost. The same source said Samsung had other Windows Phones at it’s roadmap, with original design, and that these “should be wonderful".

Samsung GALAXY Nexus looks like it has seen a ghost

Earlier this month, we told you that U.K. retailer Clove was taking pre-orders for the Samsung GALAXY Nexus in white. Now, thanks to the dudes and dudettes at AndroidHD Blog, we have pictures of the pale version of the device to show you. In case you were wondering (and we know you were), only the back and sides of the phone are white and the front is still black as on the original release.
While originally, the white Samsung GALAXY Nexus was to appear in the U.K. the week of February 6th, the latest info says that the handset will be available the week of March 6th. Pricing will be the same as the original "titanium silver" unit. As we pointed out before, this model is the GSM version of th...
