Notion Ink releases ICS Alpha update for Adam tablet, teases new device

Notion Ink releases ICS Alpha update for Adam tablet, teases new device

Posted on Jan 17, 2012 by MG15

We had mixed feelings about Notion Ink's Adam slate when it debuted last year, but if you're one of the converts who took one home, then it looks like your faith is being rewarded with an ICS update. Okay, it's only an alpha build, so not everything is working just yet -- that'd be the camera, 3G, USB storage and flash drive, oh and the light sensor. If these *cough* minor niggles don't phase you, the "upgrade" -- shown in the video after the break -- is yours for the taking. This isn't all that Notion Ink's been up to though, as it's also quietly teased a new device on its blog which it claims has been built almost entirely in-house this time round. Details are beyond sparse at this time, b...

Some Transformer Prime users can't upgrade to Android 4.0

Some Transformer Prime users can't upgrade to Android 4.0

Posted on Jan 17, 2012 by MG15

Late last month, after several delays, ASUS began shipping its much anticipated Transformer Prime tablet, but with Android 3.2 instead of Android 4.0. The company promised that it would begin offering an over-the-air (OTA) update to early adopters on January 12. ASUS met that deadline, but xda developers reports that owners are experiencing problems with updating their slates. The problem arises when the OTA can't recognize the slate's serial number and won't update the device. ASUS is aware of the problem. Gary Key, a company representative, has suggested that users try doing a factory reset. If that doesn't work, he suggests waiting about 15 minutes and trying again. Key has acknowledged t...

Apple files German lawsuit against Samsung, targets Galaxy S II, nine other smartphones

Apple files German lawsuit against Samsung, targets Galaxy S II, nine other smartphones

Posted on Jan 17, 2012 by MG15

With patent infringement accusations going every which way in recent months, we're certainly familiar with Apple/Samsung banter in the international arena. Now Apple has thrown yet another punch at the Korean smartphone maker, targeting its Galaxy S II, Galaxy S Plus and eight other handsets, claiming -- yes, you've got it -- patent infringement. The suit was filed in Dusseldorf Regional Court -- the same venue that the company used to target the Galaxy Tab 10.1N, which was created specifically to sidestep a September injunction, also in Germany. It's becoming rather difficult to keep track of all the IP hubbub across the pond, but we'll surely be back with more as soon as the German court h...

Posted on Jan 17, 2012 by MG15

Thermaltake and the Designworks USA team enjoyed great critical success with their first collaboration, the Level 10 PC case, and are returning for an encore with a similarly outlandish design for a mouse, which they're calling the Level 10 M. Only a pair of teaser images have been made available so far, though they're accompanied by enough info to get us salivating. The core of the Level 10 M mouse is hollowed out, allowing you to adjust its height, angle, size, and even shape. An array of hexagonal cutouts adds some extra flair while also facilitating better airflow under the palm. The Level 10 M will be released this spring under the Tt eSports brand of gaming hardware. BMW's Designworks ...

Hackers Threaten to Dump Norton AntiVirus Source Code Tomorrow

Posted on Jan 17, 2012 by MG15

Last Saturday, a hacking group calling itself "The Lords of Dharmaraja" claimed that it had obtained the confidential source code of Norton AntiVirus and that it would release the full code on Tuesday. Wait, that's tomorrow. The Lords of Dharmaraja claim to have infiltrated secure servers belonging to Indian Military Intelligence and pilfered the code as well as numerous internal emails. One member of the team, Yama Tough, then posted to twitter, "This coming Tuesday behold the full Norton Antivirus 1,7Gb src, the rest will follow." Since then, multiple snippets of code have been posted to PasteBin. Symantec doesn't seem too worried, however, stating that, "Presently, we have no indication t...

AMD Radeon HD 7950 released in two weeks

Posted on Jan 17, 2012 by MG15

AMD is planning to unveil its Radeon HD 7950 graphics card by the end of January, while NVIDIA is anticipated to introduce its 28nm Kepler GPU in April, at the latest. The sources noted that Nvidia wishes to make sure that the power consumption and the manufacturing process of the graphics chip all reach perfection before entering the 28nm generation. Since Nvidia is set to release its 28nm graphics card around the same time as Intel's upcoming 22nm Ivy Bridge processor, the sources believe Kepler series GPUs may have a chance to catch up with the demand for Intel's new CPUs.

Zappos, the online apparel shop acquired by Amazon in July 2009 for $928 million in stock and cash, began alerting millions of customers over the weekend that it was hit hard by a data breach that may have granted cyber crooks access to sensitive account information, including the last four digits of any credit cards on file. The database that stores full credit card information and other payment data was not affected or accessed, the company said.

"We are writing to let you know that there may have been illegal and unauthorized access to some of your customer account information on Zappos.com, including one or more of the following: your name, e-mail address, billing and shipping addresses...

Sony's "four-screen" platform teased, to be called Dot Switch?

Posted on Jan 17, 2012 by MG15

Filed in: Sony

When talking about the buyout of Ericsson's part in the Sony Ericsson joint venture, CEO Sir Howard Stinger mentioned that a big part in that decision played something he called the "four-screen" concept. Sony's idea to make its TVs, computers, tablets and smartphones interact with each other seamlessly has been five years in the making, he clarified in November last year, and the presence of another company in its smartphone unit, by which it had to run decisions, was only hampering progress. Well, now that Sony Ericsson is Sony Mobile Communications, nothing is stopping the dream from being fulfilled. Sony outed a video which shows how things will eventually work across the board. If you a...

Nokia Lumia 710 hitting UK on February 1st

Nokia Lumia 710 hitting UK on February 1st

Posted on Jan 17, 2012 by MG15

While Nokia Lumia 800 has been available in the UK for some time now, its lower-end sibling Lumia 710 is yet to hit the stores across the country. Apparently, the wait will end soon with the Finnish company launching its entry-level Windows Phone device on February 1st. Orange and Three are on board to sell the new phone, though we’re sure third-party retailers will offer it on a number of plans from all (most) major carriers. The price is unknown at the moment, but it’s safe to bet you’ll be able to secure your unit for free on plans starting below 30 GBP per month. Unlocked, the device will probably sell for about 300 GBP, though we don’t have anything confirmed at this stage — it’s just m...

California becomes the first state to require energy-efficient chargers

California becomes the first state to require energy-efficient chargers

Posted on Jan 17, 2012 by MG15

California is now officially the first state to require energy efficient chargers from consumer electronics companies. The California Energy Commission voted 3 to 0 to approve legislation that would force phone, tablet and laptop makers to bundle their devices with energy savvy chargers startging from February 1st, 2013. With estimates showing that 13% of the electricity the state consumes eaten up by electronics, this could save enough to power up 350,000 homes. In other measurements, this could also bring $306 million back to Californians’ pockets. The more energy thrifty chargers though might result in a higher price on consumer electronics. The technology, though, is allegedly already th...

What is black, tough, and carriers a JCB logo on its back? No, it is not a piece of heavy machinery that we are dealing with here. We are talking about the limited edition Motorola DEFY+, which just got announced. What makes the Motorola DEFY+ limited edition different from the standard model is that it is coated with an extra layer of armor making it even more suitable for people working in the construction and engineering sector. The patented visco-elastic protective sleeve from JCB is there to protect the device from drops, spills, and other accidents that might occur in extreme environments. What further complements the experience is the list of software that comes pre-installed on the d...

Sony's upcoming Nypon handset to feature its WhiteMagic display with 1000 nits of brightness?

Posted on Jan 17, 2012 by MG15

Filed in: Cell PhonesSony

The Sony Ericsson LT22i "Nypon" prototype that was leaked a while ago, is seemingly coming with Sony's new "WhiteMagic" display tech, if this new spec leak below is to be believed. Sony's upcoming Nypon handset to feature its WhiteMagic display with 1000 nits of brightness? Coming at qHD resolution with the Nypon, the WhiteMagic screen technology's main virtue lies in its 1000 nits of brightness in "outdoor mode", as much as the brightest mobile display out there, on the Nokia 701. Also, Sony claims that in regular mode, the display draws half of the juice that conventional LCDs usually do, which should do some wonders for the battery life on the Nypon. The handset was also pictured recently...

New update for Adobe Flash 11 and AIR irons out some of the ICS kinks, like the green video screen

New update for Adobe Flash 11 and AIR irons out some of the ICS kinks, like the green video screen

Posted on Jan 17, 2012 by MG15

Adobe promised that it will continue to issue security and compatibility updates for its mobile Flash player in Android Market, despite that it ceased working on future versions, and has been delivering on that promise ever since. It issued an Adobe Flash Player and Adobe AIR apps that are compatible with the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich version about a month ago, but apparently some more work needed to be done, so there goes another one now. The latest Flash Player 11.3 version resolves some compatibility issues, and brings in improvements, i.e. your videos will be turning green no more. There are still some issues without resolution, though - they are the same like when the first ...
