Google Voice Gets Nifty Customization Options Thanks To G+ Circles

Google Voice Gets Nifty Customization Options Thanks To G+ Circles

The Plus-ification of Google continued yesterday as the company announced it was offloading G+ features onto yet another Google service. But unlike the incredibly annoying (both in name and use) Search Plus Your World, this update's actually pretty useful; Google Voice users will be able to personalize their phone line's behavior using their G+ circles. Don't want to mix business with pleasure? With the new Circles functionality, you could have separate voicemail recordings for friends and coworkers -- and that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Google engineer Tom Ford announced the new feature on the Google Voice blog yesterday. His brief post sums up the possibilities pretty well:

Dell XPS 13 Manuals Leak Out Ahead of Launch

Dell XPS 13 Manuals Leak Out Ahead of Launch

Posted on Feb 27, 2012 by MG1

Another ultrabook release seems to be close at hand, with manuals for the Dell XPS 13 making a premature appearance on the company’s website a couple of days back. Even though the said manuals have since disappeared, their emergence seems to be in keeping with the company’s U.S. launch plans for the ultrabook. Hit the jump for more.
At the time of its official unveiling at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last month, it was announced that the XPS 13 ultrabook would be available in the States at the end of February. The timing of this leak suggests that the “enterprise-friendly” XPS 13 remains on track to hit the U.S. market next week. Dell has already revealed that the ultrabook wi...

Filed in: Cell PhonesSamsung

Samsung has expanded its Galaxy Note lineup to include a 10.1-inch tablet. The Note 10.1 integrates a 1280x800 display that appears to match the Galaxy Tab 10.1 panel, though the new model jumps from a 1GHz chip to a 1.4GHz dual-core processor to match the five-inch Note.
The Note 10.1 keeps the same two-megapixel front-facing camera as its smaller counterpart, however the larger tablet steps down from an eight-megapixel camera to a three-megapixel shooter with autofocus and flash for the back panel.

HTC One V: The Legend resurrected

HTC One V: The Legend resurrected

Posted on Feb 27, 2012 by MG1

Last – and maybe least – in HTC’s new portfolio of Android phones announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona today is the HTC One V, or the HTC Legend 2 in all but name.
Android fans will recall the first HTC Legend was launched at this very same expo two years ago, and turned heads with its marvellous design. Using a unibody design first pioneered by Apple in its MacBook Pro laptops, the machined aluminium premise translated perfectly to mobile. We called it an iPhone beater.

Nokia Asha Series 40 lineup expands with 202, 203 and 302

Posted on Feb 27, 2012 by MG1

The Nokia Asha Series 40 phones were introduced at Nokia World last fall and today it expands by a few models, with the 202, 203 and 302. The 202 model is designed for "easy swap" SIM changes without powering off the phone, while the 203 is a single SIM model. Both expand the lower end line with access to 40 free games ( including Bejeweled, Need for Speed, Tetris, Sims Medieval) and Nokia Life services. The 302 (pictured above) will be the first to bring Microsoft Exchange support on Series 40, a feature that will also be added to the older 303. It does not have a touchscreen, but does bring a 1GHz CPU and 14.4Mbps data speeds for 95 euros, shipping now. The 202 and 203 do have 2.4-inch tou...

Google to Give Chrome Users a Do-Not-Track Button

Google to Give Chrome Users a Do-Not-Track Button

Posted on Feb 27, 2012 by MG1

Filed in: Google

Google's privacy policies have come under fire in the past, but when it comes to the 'do-not-track' feature mentioned in the Obama administration's online "Consumer Bill of Rights," the Sultan of search won't be pushing anyone's buttons. Instead, it will givers the opportunity to press a button, embedded in Chrome, to initiate the DNT feature and tell websites to back off.
The Obama administration on Thursday said that leading Internet companies and online advertising networks are committing to act on DNT technology in most major Web browsers, which is only half of the equation. For it to be effective, browser makers have to ensure that DNT technology is baked in, is accessible, and that it ...

Apple has too much cash admits Tim Cook

Apple has too much cash admits Tim Cook

If Apple were a cartoon character, it would definitely be Scrooge McDuck. I have a mental image of Apple CEO Tim Cook and other Cupertino bigwigs diving into a company pool filled with cash. Consider that $1 billion in $100 bills would weigh approximately 22,000 pounds assuming each bill weighs 1 g according to Dailykos. If you multiply that by 98 it gets us roughly 2,156,000 pounds for the $98 billion in cash Apple has sitting in the bank. I’d say that’s plenty cash to fill a swimming pool Scrooge style.

Google tablet - 7-inch device in the works?

Google tablet - 7-inch device in the works?

Posted on Feb 27, 2012 by MG3

Google will jump into the tablet market this year with its own 7-inch device, according to a DisplaySearch analyst.
The tablet market has experienced rapid growth over the past couple of years thanks to devices such as the iPad 2, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Kindle Fire and it looks as though Google wants in on that cake, with its Ice Cream Sandwich operating system providing it with a good starting point.
Speaking to Cnet, analyst Richard Shim suggested that a self-branded, 7-inch (1280x800) Google tablet running Ice Cream Sandwich would start production in April.

Rovio finally moving beyond Angry Birds

Rovio finally moving beyond Angry Birds

Posted on Feb 27, 2012 by MG1

Angry Birds has become a world-wide cultural phenomenon in a way that we haven't seen with a video game since the days of Tetris, Pac-Man, or Mario (and we mean OG NES Mario that went on to spawn a cartoon and for some silly reason, a live-action movie). The developer, Rovio, has been quick to make sure that it can cash out in every way possible, including putting out the game on every platform from PC to mobile to graphing calculators (you know it's coming), and expanding into merchandising (to an absurd degree) and even cartoons.
And, while Rovio will continue to beat Angry Birds into the ground for as long as it is profitable, the company is finally looking to add a non-Angry Birds game ...

Verizon rolls out bug fix update for original Motorola Droid X

Verizon rolls out bug fix update for original Motorola Droid X

Posted on Feb 27, 2012 by MG3

Even though the original Motorola Droid X is nearly two years old, Verizon hasn't forgotten about the owners of this once-mighty smartphone. Verizon has begun rolling out a 15MB over-the-air software update — it's not an Ice Cream Sandwich update, but there are a lot of bug fixes for users who might find their phones to be a little flaky. Most noteworthy is the quashing of a bug that apparently powers your phone on without "user interaction" — an odd issue that appears to be a problem with more than one of Motorola's phones.

Acer Liquid Glow to help define budget Android 4.0

Acer Liquid Glow to help define budget Android 4.0

Posted on Feb 27, 2012 by MG3

Acer has followed up the CloudMobile with a second smartphone due at Mobile World Congress. The Liquid Glow will carry Acer's lightly skinned version of Android 4.0, but with a more modest 3.7-inch display. The newer, curvier design will be its own highlight, with colors such as Alpine White and Sakura Pink on the back that will be matched to the display at the front.
A five-megapixel camera with a flash is standard, and NFC is new to Acer's Liquid line. The short-range wireless here is useful for Android Beam device-to-device sharing with other Android 4.0 owners as well as the usual tag reading and mobile payments. Most other details have been left out so far, although Android 4.0 perform....
