Nokia for the past year or so has been on a crusade to dig the company out of irrelevancy in today’s super competitive mobile business. The Finnish-based phone maker teamed up with Microsoft to jazz things up on the operating system, shifting attention slightly away from its own OS Symbian. Now the company has its sights set on acquiring some talent on the development side.
On his blog this morning, Josh Marinacci, a developer/designer for Palm, announced that he would be leaving the troubled company after two years of service. He went on to explain himself as to why he came to the decision to leave, saying:

Google pushes out updates for Wallet, Google+, and Authenticator
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
Google is pushing out a series of updates for their Android apps today, with Wallet, Google+, and Authenticator getting some love. The Google+ update is listed as “Several stability improvements and bug fixes,” so there isn’t a whole lot exciting going on there (unless you have been having problems with bugs or stability, we imagine). The Google Authenticator likewise only lists “Security bug fixes,” which I guess should reassure users of Google’s secure log-in app that they are staying on top of security threats.

Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
Just two short weeks ago, a big hullabaloo was made when Apple’s stock hit the illustrious $500 per share mark. As of 1:00 PM CST today, Apple is sitting right around $544 per share, sending the Cupertino company’s net worth north of $500 Billion dollars for the first time in its history. This from a company that was worth just $10 Billion a decade ago. Apple, already the most valuable company in the world, joins an elite club of companies who’ve been worth $500 Billion. Only Microsoft, ExxonMobil, Cisco, and General Electric are in the club, none of which are currently valued above $500 Billion. Of these five, ExxonMobile has the highest current net worth of $410 Billion.

Like UnlikeFiled in: Mouse DevicesRoccatSavu
Boasting about in-game achievements is all but common at this point — but what about boasting about the use of your gaming peripheral itself? Verizon statement on locked bootloaders to the FCC
Like UnlikeFiled in: Verizon Wireless
Droid-Life has obtained a letter sent by Verizon to the FCC, dealing with complaints about their policy of locking down the bootloaders of their phones – notably Android smartphones, which have a sizable enthusiast following that likes to load custom versions of the OS onto their devices. If you don’t feel the need to hack your phone you probably don’t care one way or another, but past consumer agitation has lead HTC to reverse its policy on bootloader locking, and manufacturers like ASUS and Sony have also provided tools for enthusiasts to use to unlock their phones.
What’s interesting in the letter is they use the quality of customer tech support as the main reason why they insist upon loc...

Apple at work on 'adaptive streaming' audio format
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
Apple is at work on a new file format that should enable "adaptive steaming" of high- or low-quality audio to iCloud users, The Guardian claims. The format will allegedly adjust itself to the bandwidth and storage on a given device, and it's speculated that it could allow downloading "HD" audio to iOS devices, or else form the backbone of a long-rumored streaming music service. More firm, though, is thought to be integration with iTunes Match, the combination upload and streaming service launched late last year.
A Guardian source with "inside knowledge of the process" states that Apple has asked a London studio to prepare audio files for the new format. "All of a sudden, all your audio from ...

FTC Chairman Calls New Google Policy A "Fairly Binary and Brutal Choice to Consumers"
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
US FTC chairman Jon Leibowitz called Google's new unified policy "a fairly binary and somewhat brutal choice that they're giving consumers," in other words, a "take it or leave it" choice. Mr. Leibowitz made these comments speaking an episode of C-SPAN's Newsmakers. Google's new unified gives users of its various services (eg: G-Mail, YouTube, Picassa), a single user policy to agree to, to continue using the services. The policy also outlines how Google will use data collected by its different services, something its critics noted to be invasive. Less than 48 hours from taking effect, the policy is facing opposition from European regulators, and even a group of 36 US Attorneys General.

eBay, PayPal, Opera announce mobile payment innovations at MWC
Like UnlikeNope, "Grease" isn't the word, it's "Mobile Payments," or at least it would be if it wasn't technically two words. Still, eBay, PayPal and Opera have used the fiesta atmosphere at MWC to promote their services, as you do. eBay's partnered with UK carrier Three, which will now pre-install the auction site's apps on all the Android phones it sells. It's also teamed up with hotelier Yotel and Iberian ticketing service Entradas to offer quick-and-easy payments for the same. Meanwhile, Opera has launched the Opera Payment Exchange (OPX), aiming to democratize the space by making secure commerce available on any form of feature phone, rather than just top-level smartphones. Finally, PayPal has rol...

The Pirate Bay Removes All of Its Torrent Links
Like UnlikeThe Pirate Bay, the largest torrent site on the Internet, is no more. Or well, it's not like it once was. As of this moment, they've taken down all torrent links on the website and will now only use 'magnet links'.
Though it sounds really bad, it's more of an act to "future proof" The Pirate Bay website than anything else. So don't worry! The Pirate Bay will still be able to work. It's not dying, it's just changing. In their words, "just click the red button instead of the green one and all will be fine".
