Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsGoogleAndroid
In a quick peek behind the curtain at what life can be like as an Android developer, Netflix's Tech Blog has posted details of the testing process for each iteration of its app. According to Netflix's own stats, after being initially released for just a handful of phones nearly a year ago it now streams to "almost around 1,000" different devices daily. The situation of building one app for different hardware, software (including CM7 and CM9), screen sizes and and other variations like hardware or software decoding presents many challenges, but the team has filtered down to 14 devices (10 phones, 4 tablets) that give maximum coverage for their daily tests. NVIDIA Introducing a New Anti-Aliasing Algorithm with Kepler?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsnVIDIA
Reliable sources indicate that NVIDIA could introduce a new anti-aliasing (AA) algorithm with its Kepler family of GPUs. There are already plenty of AA algorithms which have been introduced with recent generations of GPUs, including FXAA, which have enabled higher levels of image quality, while not being as taxing as MSAA. This leaves only one area in which a new AA algorithm can take shape: to raise the image quality bar higher, while lowering performance penalty.

Verizon acquires Cellular One of Northeast Pennsylvania, gains a bit more spectrum
Like UnlikeFiled in: Verizon Wireless
Verizon has made headlines with its plans to buy $3.6 billion worth of spectrum — and now the carrier has announced a much smaller acquisition. Cellular One of Northeast Pennsylvania is now under the Verizon umbrella after being purchased from US Cellular, and though financial terms weren't disclosed, the deal includes a spectrum license that covers 114,000 Pennsylvania residents. It may not be a lot, but when you're as spectrum-constrained as Verizon claims to be, every little bit helps. Those subscribers affected by the deal won't see any changes for a few months, but Verizon says it will eventually convert its new purchase to Verizon branding. That may also include changes to calling plan...

When it arrived in April of last year, the T-Mobile Sidekick 4G was more than a re-imagining of an aging brand: the Samsung SGH-T839 was perhaps the best mid-range Android handset we'd ever seen, with a fantastic physical QWERTY keyboard and loads of value for the money. For the past eleven months, the iF Design award-winning handset had a good run, but now T-Mobile tells us that it's officially discontinuing the phone. (This confirms an earlier TmoNews report.) That said, that doesn't mean there isn't another Sidekick in the cards.

These uploads "have, quite literally, turned the address book owners' wireless mobile devices into mobile radio beacons broadcasting and publicly exposing the unsuspecting device owner's address book data to the world."
