Apple may be looking to incorporate support for 802.11ac Wi-Fi specification into the company’s products this year, according to a report from AppleInsider. The new standard offers three times the speed of the 802.11n standard, capable of achieving speeds of over 1 Gigabit per second. Apple cleared in Germany of infringing on one of seven Samsung patents

Apple has been cleared of infringing an Apple patent in one of more than 30 ongoing patent complaints Samsung and Apple currently have filed against each other around the world. Judge Andreas Voss of Germany’s Mannheim Regional Court on Friday ruled that the Cupertino, California-based company’s mobile devices do not infringe on a Samsung-owned patent pertaining to the UMTS standard, FOSS Patents reported. Apple asks bankruptcy court to prevent Kodak from using disputed patent as collateral for loan

Seeking $950 million in post-bankrutcy loans, Kodak is planning on using some patents as collateral for the facility. The only problem is that Apple believes that the patents belong to them and is asking the bankruptcy court to block the photography firm from using the patents to obtain the loan. In a filing in the US Bankruptcy Court in the Southern District of New York, Apple states that Kodak is trying to "enter into a $950 million postpetition financing facility secured by security interests in and liens upon substantially all of Kodak’s assets, including certain patents that are subject to ongoing patent ownership and patent infringement disputes between Kodak and Apple."

The Daily Show and Colbert Report famously rely upon SnapStream's high-power Windows DVR software to monitor the insanity at the fringes of America's cable spectrum. Apple has had its iTunes U offering for quite awhile, which has provided professors a digital hub to communicate with students, but it was only a matter of time before an iPad and iPhone app was released to compliment the service. While Apple's Eddy Cue said the new iTunes U app was designed to look a lot like iBooks 2, the app is strictly a portal for accessing all types of educational materials, including a class syllabus, full course notes and videos, as well as iBooks notes.

Apple launches free iBooks Author for ebook publishing

Apple has revealed its latest app, iBooks Author, that aims to make creating ebooks as simple as pie.
As predicted, it's essentially GarageBand for ebooks, which should make it easier for publishers to format digital books as well as to add smooth interactive elements.
Using a template-based tool, iBooks Author rocks a clean layout with straight-forward drag and drop controls.
Easy peasy
The templates are customisable and there's the option to extend with HTML 5 as well as offering the ability to publish direct to the iBookstore, putting Apple in a position to rival Kindle Direct Publishing.

Still wondering whether Apple will indeed launch a new iPad in the near future with an HD Retina Display? Well, thanks to a tipster, we were able to locate double-resolution iPad images in the latest iBooks app for the iPad. Apple’s next-generation iPad 3 is rumored to feature a high-definition 1,536 x 2,048-pixel display along with a quad-core Apple A6 processor, 4G LTE support and twice the battery life of the iPad 2.
UPDATE: Looks like images like these have been in the iBooks app for quite some time. Maybe Apple just isn’t bothering to remove them since they’ll have to add them right back in March?

Apple has launched a recycling service in the UK, allowing users to either get some cash for their old gear, or if the hardware they have doesn’t have any value – recycle it for free.
