Alleged Sony Ericsson Nozomi official render leaks
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSony EricssonXperia S
From the confines of Chinese forums we found this little excerpt from what is claimed to be an official picture of the Sony Ericsson Nozomi. The side render coincides with what we've seen leaked in flesh and blood in the wild before, and confirms the phone is coming in white.
Granted, the image is very small, and the technical specifications are cut out, but you can still see the word "Dual" which would confirm once again that we might be having the first mutlicore Android handset from the company in the face of the Sony Ericsson Nozomi. Another proof is the 1920x1xxx line under the camera section, which would imply 1080p HD video capture that we usually associate with dual-core handsets.

Carrier IQ tracking scandal escalates: it’s not the manufacturers, blame the carriers
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell Phones
Carrier IQ is a simple telemetrics company but there’s one thing that makes it stand out from the rest - chances are, it’s on your smartphone and researcher Trevor Eckhart has recently found out that it records your every keystroke, SMS message, phone call and logs a lot of the data you transmit. Scary? Add to that the fact that you can’t remove it, and things start to look very Orwellian.
Apparently, those previously unknown findings weren’t warmly embraced over at Carrier IQ as the company sent an absurd and inimical cease and desist order, a copy of which you can find at the source link at the end of this article. Here’s an extract of Eckhart’s report on Carrier IQ that must have triggere...

Motorola Milestone 2 Gingerbread update starts rolling out today across Europe
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsMotorolaGoogleMILESTONE 2Android 2.3
Motorola has started rolling out Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for its Milestone 2 smartphone in Europe. That, however, doesn’t mean you can get it right away; the new software will be released in stages so even if you can’t download it right now, check back again within few days.
The American handset maker turned to Facebook to spread the good news and we really applaud them for supporting their existing customers. Sure enough, they’re kinda late – but better late than never.

Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell Phones
Carrier IQ provides telemetry to cellular carriers and manufacturers, and according to the company itself, its software is preinstalled on over 141 million phones. Now, a security researcher claims that the same software is monitoring every single key you press on your smartphone, reading your SMS, and logging much of the personal data you transmit, too — all with an app that you can't remove. Samsung Galaxy Nexus torn down, not the easiest to repair
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGALAXY Nexus
The great folks at iFixit have torn down the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and found the world’s first Ice Cream Sandwich phone is packed full of power but it may be a bit tricky to repair.
We know that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus sports a 1.2 GHz TI OMAP processor, a 4.65-inch 720p screen and NFC, so iFixit confirmed that by cracking it apart. The company gave the Galaxy Nexus a 6 on its “repairability scale,” which is an above-average grade, but not by much.
The rear case is very difficult to pry off, iFixit said, and you’d better be mindful not to drop the device because, “the glass is fused to both the display and the display frame. So don’t crack the glass unless you’re good with a heat gun, or you...

AT&T Reveals First LTE Phones: HTC Vivid and Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungHTCAT&TGalaxy S IIVivid
For a few months now AT&T has had an LTE network, but no phones that could take advantage of it. Well, that all changes today — AT&T has just announced that the Android-powered HTC Vivid and the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket will be the first to run on their LTE network, and will hit store shelves on November 6.
The HTC Vivid packs a 1.2GHz dual-core processor under the proverbial hood, and a 4.5-inch qHD display graces its face. A 8-megapixel camera capable of shooting 1080p video occupies the Vivid’s rear end, and 16GB of internal storage (expandable up to 32GB with the right microSD cards) rounds out the package. HTC has kept mum on the specific version of Android the Vivid runs, but it d...

Samsung Galaxy Nexus volume bug fix pushed OTA now
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGALAXY Nexus
Samsung is reportedly starting to push an OTA update fixing the software bug users noticed a couple of days ago that would cause the volume on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus to suddenly go down, sometimes to a complete mute, according to UK retailer Clove. The update however isn’t yet pre-loaded on newer Galaxy Nexus devices despite previous rumors about it.
So this will indeed require some action on your part - those of you who were lucky enough to get a hold on the Galaxy Nexus will need to install the update themselves. The update still hasn’t arrived for all of Samsung’s new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich devices, though, and it will be pushed in batches, so you might need to wait for a while ...

Acer Liquid Express includes NFC, is free with contract in UK
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAcerLiquid Express
Acer's Liquid Express is now shipping, and if there's anything memorable about the phone, it's that it might finally help NFC spread to the mid-range Android market. The 3.5-inch Express is the same size as most of the Liquid line, includes the same 5-megapixel camera, and has the 800MHz processor of the Liquid MT. There's no word yet on internal memory, but it comes bundled with a standard 2GB microSD card. It's also free with even the cheapest two-year contracts on both T-Mobile and Orange. That means the Liquid Express is a cheap way to join the NFC future, although you'll be doing it on a phone with specs that will rapidly be from the past.

"To be clear, the Galaxy Nexus does not initially support Adobe Flash Player 11.1 and AIR 3.1," wrote Greg DeMichillie, senior director of product management for interactive development at Adobe.
"We will provide a minor update to the runtimes to support the Galaxy Nexus in December."

Your cell phone signal won't be tracked at stores -- for now
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell Phones
The holidays have been spoiled for two malls that planned to electronically track customers. The Promenade Temecula in California and Short Pump Town Center in Virginia announced plans last week to implement "FootPath" technology, which uses shoppers' cell phone signals to map their traffic throughout the shopping centers. Privacy advocates immediately cried foul and US Senator Charles Schumer questioned the rollout during a press conference this Sunday.
"A shopper's personal cell phone should not be used by a third party as a tracking device by retailers who are seeking to determine holiday shopping patterns," Schumer said. "Personal cell phones are just that -- personal. If retailers want ...
