Some Galaxy Nexus users reporting odd battery readings
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGALAXY Nexus
The rumors we had heard about the Samsung Galaxy Nexus having very solid battery life do seem to be true, many users are reporting a couple days of use without charging, but there are also reports of odd readings with the battery monitor.
There have been various reports that the battery monitor on the Nexus won't see much of a dip, but then will drop fairly quickly once it's past the first 20% of battery use. Additionally, the last 20% can often last a very long time. There have also been reports in the MoDaCo forums about large dips on the battery monitor overnight, as if the phone isn't going into sleep mode properly.
Of course, these are all unofficial reports, and don't even come from o...

Nokia N9 software update PR 1.2 screenshots leak
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesNOKIAN9
Most people who either already picked up the N9 or are seriously considering buying it this holiday shopping season know full well that it’s the first, last, and only device that the Finnish handset maker will release running MeeGo/Maemo/Harmattan. That means developers don’t really want to support it since there’s no future in the ecosystem, not to mention the fact that Nokia refused the launch N9 in some of the world’s largest markets, instead opting to release it in a limited number of smaller countries. Now that being said, Nokia’s got a track record of keeping their devices up to date. If you’re lucky enough to own a Symbian^3 device then you’ve already experienced the upgrade to Symbia...

Samsung Wave 3 crashes onto French shores
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungWave 3
Samsung's new Bada flagship has just docked into our illustrative French port. Announced back in the summer, the Wave 3 arrives on the refreshed Bada 2.0 OS, powered by a 1.4GHz processor and packing a four-inch 800 x 480 Super AMOLED display. Storage matches the watery iteration, with 3GB of memory baked-in, with expansion possible through microSD. Meanwhile, an auto-focus five megapixel shooter will do its best to fill all that space. Not content with France (where Bada-powered handsets have established a niche fanbase), the HSPA-connected smartphone is also penned to hit Germany, Russia and Italy before the end of the year.

Hack brings Google Wallet to the Samsung GALAXY Nexus
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGALAXY Nexus
We hope you agree with us when we say that Google Wallet is pretty awesome. And if you are not quite sure about that, just imagine how cool you would look when you pay using your smartphone the next time you get yourself a cup of joe. The sad part, however, is that the service is still available to a very limited audience and can be used only on the Nexus S 4G for Sprint.
But the Android community knows no sleep. The guys over at the MoDaCo forums have found a way of getting Google Wallet up and running on a Samsung GALAXY Nexus, albeit unofficially. The tricky part is that the process involves quite a lot of tinkering with the smartphone's software, so Android newbies should not try replica...

Leaked Verizon document hints at white Droid RAZR, leaves speculation to us
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesMotorolaVerizon WirelessDROID RAZR
Is there a white Droid RAZR looming on the horizon? According to the above screenshot, there is. Obtained by the folks over at Droid Life, this image purports to give a glimpse into Verizon's device management system, which apparently boasts a previously unmentioned white version of Motorola's ultra-thin handset. If it's legit, the RAZR would join the likes of the Droid 2 Global and R2D2 alongside the manufacturer's predominantly white offerings, though Motorola has yet to confirm its existence. Details, then, are still scarce, but we'll let you know as soon as we hear more about any alabaster arrivals.

HTC faces smartphone ban in Germany
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTC
HTC’s German subsidiaries may soon be barred from selling smartphones in the country following HTC’s recent decision to forgo an appeal to a patent lawsuit won by IPCom in 2009. The ban could spell trouble for HTC smartphone sales during the holiday season. “We will likely use the right awarded by the courts, likely resulting in HTC devices disappearing from shops during the crucial Christmas season,” IPCom said, noting that it hopes to enforce an injunction against HTC’s devices as soon as possible. HTC did not specifically say why it decided to pull its appeal, although The Guardian said HTC has previously indicated that its appeal argument was redundant. ”While HTC can try to oppose the e...

Verizon Galaxy Nexus pre-orders may begin tomorrow
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungVerizon WirelessGALAXY Nexus
There still has been no official word from Verizon, Google or Samsung about the impending release of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, but the rumors surrounding the launch are beginning to coalesce into believable information.
According to Computerworld, sources at Verizon have confirmed a number of key pieces of the puzzle. Apparently, the leak we saw over the holiday weekend about the on-contract price of the Nexus being $199 is also true. And, new information has confirmed both the release date and the pre-order dates.
One of the most helpful reports even came from a customer. Mike Peak apparently contacted Verizon to detail his anger over the handling of this release, after a number of e-mails...

Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesMotorolaDROID 4
Well what do you know – Verizon Wirelessmay actually launch the DROID 4 on December 8th, as we reported before. Or at least the growing number of information we’re getting about the QWERTY keyboard Android smartphone suggests so.
The latest info we got about Moto’s upcoming device shows us compatible accessories. As you’re about to see, future DROID 4 owners we’ll be able to connect it to a LapDock, HD dock or wireless keyboard with trackpad. I can’t recall seeing such keyboard before and I’m pretty confident it will also be able to sing along other Motorola smartphones like the DROID RAZR, DROID Bionic and Photon 4G.

BlackBerry Bold 9790 Indonesia debut makes iPhone-style riot
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesRIM BlackBerryBold 9790
The launch of the BlackBerry Bold 9790 in Indonesia's capital of Jakarta on Friday gave RIM a rare Apple-like level of demand that also took an unfortunate turn. A report from the event through the Jakarta Globe had up to 90 people face minor injuries like broken bones after a crush and queue jumping triggered by a rumor spread that the Pacific Place Mall store wouldn't have enough of the new smartphone to supply everyone. As many as 200 public and private security officers had to step in to restore order.
The country has been friendlier to the BlackBerry as a whole than most parts of the world, where Apple and Google's Android are taking over, but it triggered the queuing more commonly asso...

After appearing in the Telus winter catalog earlier this month, the BlackBerry Curve 9380 is now shipping from the Canadian carrier. Sadly, the Telus version of the 9380 only comes with 512MB of internal storage, not 1GB as previously announced, although it does include a 2GB microSD card.

“Promising Unlock” For The iPhone 4S Discovered
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
Most folks spent their Thanksgiving weekend ensuring that every inch of their intestinal track was thoroughly covered in gravy. Others spent it trying to get just drunk enough that their relative’s worst habits were bearable.
A select few, however, spent the weekend doing something pretty much only they can do: hacking the heck out of the iPhone. As a result, everyone waitin’ and wishin’ for an iPhone 4S carrier unlock has something to be thankful for.
It’s not quite a done deal just yet, but iPhone Dev-Team star MuscleNerd tweeted out that a “promising 4S unlock” had been discovered after a bit of Turkey-fueled hacking.
