Nokia Lumia 800 blowing past other Windows Phones, bringing new users to Windows Phone in France

Nokia Lumia 800 blowing past other Windows Phones, bringing new users to Windows Phone in France

Posted on Dec 07, 2011 by MG1

According to data released by Arnaud Michelet, developer of the France Trafic use of the Nokia Lumia 800 shot up over a 5 week period, overtaking all of the current Windows Phone 7 handsets, both first and second generation.
There is no corresponding dip in the use of current handsets, showing the Lumia 800 is drawing new users to the platform, expanding the installed base by about 1/3 in our quick estimate.
Unless Nokia has been promoting the app, the data clearly shows Nokia’s media blitz is having a good effect. Another data point to add to the many others which show Nokia sales are pretty good after all, despite some misinformed analysts.

Unlocked version of the Nokia Lumia 800 lands on Amazon for $649.99

Posted on Dec 07, 2011 by MG1

Are you still waiting around to pick up the highly regarded Nokia Lumia 800, but don’t feel like importing the Windows Phone Mango device? Well, you can now purchase one directly from Amazon – though, it’s still from a third-party seller.
In any event, the listing is for an unlocked version of the Nokia Lumia 800, which means you can pop in your SIM and start using it right away. Naturally, AT&T customers should take notice of this one seeing that the handset is compatible to work with the carrier’s HSPA network. Meanwhile, T-Mobile customers can still opt to use the handset with the carrier, but considering that it doesn’t support Tmo’s 1700MHz band, you’ll be surfing the web on EDGE speeds...

The Lumia 800, much like the Galaxy Nexus, has had a bit of a bumpy ride in its first few days on sale. A seven-page thread on the Nokia Support forum details battery life issues that many have had with the new Windows Phone handset, which has prompted Nokia into action. The company has today announced it'll deliver two software updates, one in early December and one in early January, both of which will aim to improve power efficiency and battery life. Nokia Lumia 800 hits UK stores, preorder demand leaves Orange UK glowing

Posted on Nov 17, 2011 by MG1

As Nokia's first Windows Phone lights up shop fronts across Britain, Orange has informed us that the Lumia 800 has attracted the most attention it's ever seen for a Nokia device. Based on preorders, the smartphone has trumped both the critically acclaimed N95 and the 5800, while we're sure the gratis Xbox 360 for upgraders hasn't hurt demand -- 50 percent of those looking to pick up the polycarbonate phone are already Orange customers. The carrier has told us that an Xbox-based offer for new customers looking to pick up the Nokia-coated Windows Phone is also in the pipeline -- something for UK network hoppers to get excited about.

Nokia Lumia 800 coming to France on 16th November also

Posted on Nov 04, 2011 by MG1

The release date of the Nokia Lumia 800 in UK was never in question, with the date emblazoned all over the ads.
France has not been as lucky, but Monsmartphone has manage to wheedle the date from customer support.
The Phone House was able to confirm the delivery date as the 16th November, the same date as UK, and presumably the other 3 countries involved in the launch party also.
The handset has so far scored well with out readers, and has benefitted from an unprecedented marketing campaign, which will hopefully also translate into strong sales.

Lumia 800 to hit the UK on November 16th, Nokia confirms

Posted on Nov 02, 2011 by MG1

We knew that the Lumia 800 would be making its way to the UK sometime in November, but today, that timeline has become slightly more specific. We've just received confirmation that Nokia's "first real Windows Phone" will indeed be available within the UK on November 16th, just a day before Samsung unleashes its Galaxy Nexus handset to British users. Last month, the company confirmed that the device would be priced at €420, though there's no word yet on what that price tag may look like in sterling. As always, we'll let you know as soon as we hear more.

Nokia's strategy for America: Target people new to smartphones

Last week Nokia held their annual Nokia World event in London where they announced 6 new handsets. The last 2 to be unveiled, the Nokia Lumia 710 and the Nokia Lumia 800, were the ones that the entire mobile industry have been eager to see ever since the Finnish mobile phone manufacturer decreed back in February of this year that they’re going to dump Symbian and switch to Windows Phone. To no one’s surprise, Western European countries are going to be the first to get these two devices, while the United States will have to wait until 2012, though no specific details were given. The folks at This is my next spotted a few Verizon Wireless employees at the event, which makes it rather obvious t...

Nokia Sea Ray was once a MeeGo device for Verizon

Nokia Sea Ray was once a MeeGo device for Verizon

Posted on Oct 24, 2011 by MG3

If you aren’t yet over Nokia’s abrupt decision to put an end to the MeeGo project then you might not like knowing that the smartphone codenamed the Sea Ray was once a CDMA device bound for Verizon with MeeGo on-board.
The Nokia Sea Ray is a device rumored to be heading to AT&T and will be one of the Finnish manufacturer’s first handsets to feature the Windows Phone operating system. Recently some press photos surfaced of the Sea Ray which is also known as the Nokia 800. The hardware looks very similar to the MeeGo powered N9 that unfortunately won’t see the light of day in most countries.

Nokia Sun leaks in an Orange roadmap with a micro SIM, availability November 7-13

Posted on Oct 07, 2011 by MG1

A French tech blog, dedicated to Windows Phone, has been tipped with the latest Orange France roadmap, and the carrier is listing the availability of a Nokia Sun on its shelves in week 46, which is 7-13 November, just two weeks after the expected Nokia World announcement of the first Nokia Windows Phones.
The Nokia Sun is listed as sporting a 3.7" AMOLED display, that deep-colored polycarbonate unibody we see on the Nokia N9, a 1.4GHz processor, 8MP camera, 16GB of internal memory and... a micro SIM card, like on the Nokia N9. What brings credibility to the roadmap is the Sharp Aquos 3D phone listed at the top, with its stereoscopic 8MP cameras, since we know it was announced to appear exclu...
