Velocity Micro unveils 2 new ICS tablets - The 7-Inch Cruz T507 and 9.7-Inch Cruz T510

Posted on Jan 09, 2012 by MG3

We usually don’t think of Velocity Micro as a maker of high-end devices, quite the contrary. However, they are targeting different kind of users and we applaud them for finding the niche where they can compete in.
And the best part is that they keep pushing their agenda and are preparing to unveil two new Android 4.0 tablets at the CES. The two devices are 7-Inch Cruz T507 and 9.7-Inch Cruz T510, both of which (as far as we understood) rock Cortex A8 1.2GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 8GB of built-in storage, front-facing camera for video calls, HDMI out and preloaded Amazon’s Appstore.

Velocity Micro Rolls Out Next Generation Cruz Tablets

Posted on Sep 09, 2011 by MG3

Once upon a time, Velocity Micro made a living building only high end custom PCs, notebooks, and workstations. That type of singular (or triangular, if you will) focus is behind them, and the company now dabbles in eReaders and tablets as well. These mobile devices fall under Velocity Micro's Cruz line, and they've just been updated in preparation for an upcoming relaunch later this month.

Velocity Micro Cruz T408 8-inch tablet gets its FCC credentials, goes on sale at $240

Posted on Sep 09, 2011 by MG1

The T408 has been loitering around pre-order pages for a while now, but without a nod from the FCC it was going nowhere. Fortunately, it's just been given a clean bill of 802.11 b/g/n health and can be yours for $240 from Best Buy Amazon. That outlay gets you an 8-incher with a front-facing camera, 4GB of built-in storage and a microSD slot. Watch out though: like previous Cruz tablets, it omits Android Market support out of the box, which tells you something about its target audience.

Velocity Micro made to sign Microsoft patent deal on Android

Posted on Jun 30, 2011 by MG1

Velocity Micro on Wednesday was the second in as many days to be pushed into signing a patent deal with Microsoft over Android. The deal will see royalties paid on every Cruz tablet sold. Company chief Randy Copeland spun the loss by arguing that it would help lead to "exciting new Cruz tablets" later on.
The deal immediately follows one with General Dynamics and shows Microsoft now turning most of its attention to smaller Android device makers located inside the US. Most of its early focus on royalty collection was on larger phone designers like HTC.
Microsoft believes it owns technology inherent to Android. Most, however, see the company as simply trying to give Android an arbitrary price ...
