HTC One X and One S come to Orange, T-Mobile on Thursday

HTC One X and One S come to Orange, T-Mobile on Thursday

Posted on Apr 04, 2012 by MG3

If you've already decided whether you're Team One X or Team One S, and live in the UK, then get ready to flex the plastic on Thursday. Both T-Mobile and Orange have announced that's the day you can pick one up in store and online (and even over the phone if that's how you roll.) Both networks are offering the One X for free if you don't mind paying £41 a month, or you can scoop up the One S for a slightly more reasonable £36 -- if you're okay with the smaller screen estate and number-of-core bragging rights.

Nokia Lumia 800 a best seller at Orange Austria

Posted on Feb 20, 2012 by MG1

Either Orange Austria is pushing the handset pretty hard, or the Nokia Lumia 800 is performing well on their network, but it appears the carrier has crowned the handset one of its best sellers.
The smartphone was launched in Austria at the end of 2011 and became available early in January.

We have had many readers commenting earlier that...

Android is immune to viruses, Windows Phone is not, says Orange customer support

Android is immune to viruses, Windows Phone is not, says Orange customer support

Posted on Dec 20, 2011 by MG15

Okay, Windows Phone handsets may not be perfect when it comes to malware and exploits, but they are definitely safer than their Android counterparts, don't you think? Well, we now know of at least one person in the world who would disagree with that statement, and the disturbing part is that their job expects them to be much more knowledgeable on the matter.

What you see below is an excerpt from a conversation between an Orange service representative and a subscriber. In a nutshell, the unsuspecting user is being misled into believing that Windows Phone devices are prone to getting viruses, while Android smartphones are more or less immune to such problems.

Nokia Lumia 800 hits UK stores, preorder demand leaves Orange UK glowing

Nokia Lumia 800 hits UK stores, preorder demand leaves Orange UK glowing

Posted on Nov 17, 2011 by MG1

As Nokia's first Windows Phone lights up shop fronts across Britain, Orange has informed us that the Lumia 800 has attracted the most attention it's ever seen for a Nokia device. Based on preorders, the smartphone has trumped both the critically acclaimed N95 and the 5800, while we're sure the gratis Xbox 360 for upgraders hasn't hurt demand -- 50 percent of those looking to pick up the polycarbonate phone are already Orange customers. The carrier has told us that an Xbox-based offer for new customers looking to pick up the Nokia-coated Windows Phone is also in the pipeline -- something for UK network hoppers to get excited about.

Orange UK now offers Acer Liquid Express for free with 20.50 GBP/month plan

Orange UK now offers Acer Liquid Express for free with 20.50 GBP/month plan

Posted on Nov 15, 2011 by MG1

The Acer Liquid Express is now available from Orange UK. We’ve first seen this low-to-mid end Android smartphone back in September and now everyone can get it for free on a plan that costs at least 20.50 GBP per month. That money either gets you 300 minutes and unlimited texts; or 100 minutes, unlimited texts, and 500 MB of data every month. If you need more minutes and megabytes, you can grab some more expensive plan to get up to 900 minutes and 1 GB of data for whopping 41 GBP per month. Now I’m not sure why would anyone grab such a device with that big plan, since you can easily get a way more powerful smartphone with the same monthly commitment.

Coming soon to Orange UK is the BlackBerry Curve 9360 in white

Coming soon to Orange UK is the BlackBerry Curve 9360 in white

Posted on Oct 14, 2011 by MG1

The BlackBerry Curve 9360 has already landed on the Orange UK network sporting the traditional black paint job but now the same smartphone will be arriving in white in the near future.
White has become increasingly popular among manufacturers when it comes to a secondary choice of color. There was the white Apple iPhone, the white HTC EVO 3D and even Samsung joined the party by making a white version of their flagship Galaxy S II. RIM has produced a few white BlackBerry handsets before and now you can add the Curve 9360 to that list.
Orange UK currently has the white BlackBerry Curve 9360 listed as coming soon. It will be free on a monthly plan. The Curve 9360 is an entry-level device that...

Xperia Mini Pro taunts Orange UK customers with free pricing, 'coming soon' status

Xperia Mini Pro taunts Orange UK customers with free pricing, 'coming soon' status

Posted on Aug 02, 2011 by MG1

Let's assume you're enjoying a warm pint in Notting Hill while texting your mate, when suddenly it hits you: the Xperia Mini Pro (X10) is no longer the beguiling beauty you once adored. If this describes your plight, worry not, because Sony Ericsson's latest Xperia Mini Pro is coming to Orange UK, where along with its 1GHz Snapdragon CPU and Gingerbread OS, it's teasing a free price with qualifying monthly plans. While the citrus-themed network hasn't named an official release date, it's erected a "coming soon" page in anticipation of the QWERTY slider's inevitable debut. If you're hoping for something more definitive, O2 is tempting its customers with a September arrival -- although pricing...

Orange UK's HTC Desire HD getting Android 2.3 update as we speak

Orange UK's HTC Desire HD getting Android 2.3 update as we speak

Posted on Jun 29, 2011 by MG1

Orange UK and HTC have started rolling out Android 2.3 Gingerbread updates for the Desire HD. If you’re in the “affected” group you can already check to see whether a new update is available. If it isn’t – don’t worry. I’m sure HTC’s servers are dying at the moment as the company tries to push the software to all users.
You probably know what Gingerbread brings, so I won’t repeat it here. Still I’ll mention the improved Copy/Paste which actually makes the functionality usable.
As usual, we remind you it’s good practice to backup all of your PIM data (contacts and calendars) before updating. Your stuff may be in the cloud, but having a local copy is always a plus. When you’re done with that —...

Orange UK's Coming Soon page now lists HTC Sensation, Samsung Galaxy Mini

Orange UK's Coming Soon page now lists HTC Sensation, Samsung Galaxy Mini

Posted on Jun 27, 2011 by MG1

Orange UK will soon start selling two Android smartphones. The first of the two is the HTC Sensation, which we know as the monster phone thanks to its specs that include a dual-core processor, 4.3-inch qHD capacitive touchscreen, 8-megapixel camera, HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, an array of sensors and so on. You name it, this baby has it. It’s one of the best smartphones announced to date, if not the best. We’ve no doubts Orange will offer the Sensation for free to anyone willing to commit on a plan starting at 30 or 35 GBP a month.
Then there’s the Samsung Galaxy Mini, which for many will be the first smartphone they ever bought. It should cost next to nothing, even free with some not-that-...
