Last week we reported on a rumor from industry OEMs that Microsoft was sourcing someone to build a Windows Phone. Microsoft announced Surface, a line of Windows 8 tablets tonight at the “big event” everyone’s been talking about. The two models are similar to the company’s strategy for different versions of Windows — there’s a Windows RT-based tablet for mainstream consumers and a professional tablet for users with higher-end needs.

Microsoft Releases Intune 3.0 With Windows Phone Support

Microsoft today announced the third version of Windows Intune, its cloud-based solution for PC and mobile device management and security. Along with the new people centric capabilities and upgrade rights to the latest version of Windows, the latest version now includes the ability to download “licensed available line-of-business software applications” on Windows Phone 7.0 & above, iOS and Android devices. I think enterprise support is much needed for Windows Phone devices and as Microsoft’s own division such as Server & Tools adding support for it is a good thing. We may see wide adoption among companies across the world as Windows Phone 8 gets released with much more enterprise support.

Chrome Will Be on Windows 8 Metro Soon

Google's Chrome browser will definitely be available as a Metro app in Windows 8. It works in both the Metro and Desktop settings, but not on the ARM platform, since Internet Explorer is the only browser Microsoft allows there. You'll be able to try it out in the next Chrome Dev channel release.

Wolfram Alpha+ pops up in Windows Phone Marketplace

Wolfram Alpha+ just made its debut in the Windows Phone Marketplace. The 3rd party app enables users to enter queries and perform calculations.
The Wolfram Alpha+ app extends the native Windows Phone keyboard and adds an extra 18 specialized keys to make typing in formulas a snap. 2 of those keys can even be customized so you can tailor the keyboard to your personal needs.
The built-in calculator enables computations to be performed offline. It can simplify expressions entered into the search bar independent of an Internet connection.

If you had any reason to suspect that Nvidia wouldn't have fully-functional graphics drivers in time for Windows 8, you can probably dismiss them now: the company's new R302 drivers have been WHQL-certified by Microsoft specifically for the new operating system. That's the word from Nvidia's official blog, which explains that the R302 drivers are specifically for Windows 8, as earlier versions of the operating system will stick with R300 drivers. Today marks the much-anticipated debut of Microsoft's Windows 8 Release Preview, and just ahead of that unveiling Redmond has posted the server edition of the new OS. Now available for download, the Windows Server 2012 Release Candidate includes a made-over Server Manager and replaces the Start Menu with the Metro UI. Moreover, Microsoft has reportedly removed legacy code that would allow users to boot into the classic desktop Start Menu. Windows Server 2012 will also feature the new Resilient File System for handling heavy-duty data and managing shared storage across machines. Applications that run on the current Windows Server 2008 should be compatible with this new version

A few days ago, ASUS released a video that teased an upcoming tablet that seems to be an addition to its Transformer line. The Transformer tablets can dock into a QWERTY keyboard and the video invited the viewer to join ASUS as it announces "the truly incredible next transformations". The manufacturer's next video was released on Thursday in advance of an announcement set for June 4th at Computex. Considering the message of the new video, that announcement could be very interesting indeed.
