Dell Streak 5 updated to Android 2.3 Gingerbread

Posted on Dec 27, 2011 by MG1

The Dell Streak 5, Dell's original smartphone/tablet hybrid, may be discontinued, but the company is doing good to support its customers, as it has just released the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the 5-inch devices. We will excuse the tardiness of the update since the Streak 5 is dead product. The update offers version 1.5.1 of Dell's Stage UI interface and version 2.27 of the Swype keyboard. Owners can head to Dell's website to download the update now.

Official Android 2.3 Gingerbread update is now available for the Dell Streak 5

Posted on Dec 23, 2011 by MG1

Remember when the Dell Streak 5 brought big in a literally big way – with its still perceived to be monstrous sized 5” display? Yes, it has been long discontinued in the US, but nevertheless, it’s getting one snazzy update that no doubt brings some surprise.
Specifically, the official Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the original Streak is now available and ready for the taking, thanks to the team over at xda-developers. With the sizable 155MB update, users are required though to have version 350 of the stock recovery installed on the device prior to installation. Once that’s all squared away, you’ll have your Dell Stream 5 transformed completely to an almost new device with Gingerbread.

Dell Streak 7 on track to get Honeycomb upgrade

Posted on Sep 07, 2011 by MG1

Erik Day, Dell's director of marketing for EMEA, has confirmed that the Dell Streak 7 will be getting an upgrade to Android 3.2 (Honeycomb).
Speaking to Thinq, Day demoed the softare on the 7-inch tablets at IFA 2011, but wasn't able to say when the Honeycomb update would come to existing Wi-Fi only Dell Streak 7s.
The Android 3.2 build of Honeycomb was intended to bring the tablet software to smaller than 10-inch slates, so it makes sense for Dell's 7-inch offering to be in line for the upgrade.
Languishing
The Android 3.2 update will take the Streak 7 up to Honeycomb from the seriously outdated Android 2.2 that it's currently languishing on.
This means taking the 7-inch slate to heady new ...

Clearly overshadowed by the myriad of Honeycomb tablets that we’ve continuously been seeing for the better part of the last few months, the Dell Streak 7 has been overlooked by many due to its choice of sticking to an older build of the platform.

If you are Nokia hater like me, but you would like to get decent Windows Phone 7 device, then you can get one if you live or visit Germany:
The phone has slide-out QWERTY keyboard (or QWERTZ to be precise as it is German version) and features 16 GB and 1GHz processor. Interestingly both Dell and other online retailers still offer this phone for 399 Euro, so this discount price at Media Markt is exceptionally low, particularly considering that it is a phone without contract. It’s almost prepaid phone price!

With the new firmware update for the Dell Venue Pro fixing most of the complaints about the device, and Mango on the horizon, it may just be a great deal.

Dell Venue Pro firmware update silences WiFi woes

Posted on Jul 21, 2011 by MG1

We wouldn't say it was delivered with lightning speed, but Dell's firmware update for the Venue Pro is at least on schedule. The outfit's Lionel Menchaca tweeted that the refresh, which brings a fix for a WiFi lockup issue (among others), "starts rolling out today for T-Mobile customers in the US + all other customers outside the US." Unfortunately for AT&T customers sporting this pro phone, it looks like you'll be left in the firmware lurch a bit longer --- there's been no mention of a similar update for Ma Bell.
