D-Link’s newly announced routers are looking to connect you in a variety of ways, and at a variety of price points. Boxee 1.5 nears release, will be final desktop version

Boxee 1.5 nears release, will be final desktop version

Posted on Dec 27, 2011 by MG1

We have some good news and bad news. The good news is: Boxee 1.5 will be entering public beta soon, with a proper release scheduled for January alongside Live TV. The update will finally bring the desktop software up-to-date and deliver the more streamlined UI found on the Boxee Box to your Windows, Mac or Linux computer. The bad news is: this will be the final version of the HTPCsoftware. The software will also lack access to premium apps like Netflix, thanks to the tangled web of DRM woven by content providers. When CEO Avner Ronen said that the downlo...

Boxee Box live TV integration revealed in unreleased Boxee 1.5 update

Boxee Box live TV integration revealed in unreleased Boxee 1.5 update

Posted on Nov 09, 2011 by MG1

It seems the Boxee Box will soon be able to receive TV broadcasts, as GigaOm discovered the feature in the unreleased Boxee 1.5 software update. A preview video shows that selecting Live TV brings up a dialog which tells you to connect an antenna or cable to the "Live TV dongle" and asks for your location so it can download a program guide. The software also allows you to "share your viewership," though it's unclear exactly what that means. GigaOm was unable to receive any channels with an EyeTV One TV tuner, so it might only be compatible with an official Live TV dongle we can only assume would be released soon after the update. Although it's doubtful this will work with your paid cable ser...
