With the Carrier IQ scandal making more and more headlines lately, you might be wondering whether the smartphone in your hand does indeed have the controversial software installed or not. One way to do that is by using an Android app that can detect Carrier IQ, but if you are a T-Mobile customer, checking out this leaked memo from the carrier's internal system might be easier.
Below is the list of all T-Mobile devices that are currently on sale and have Carrier IQ installed. The carrier, however, states that the software is not used to eavesdrop on people, rather to collect metric data in order to improve the overall user experience. BlackBerry Curve 9380 hits the FCC, talking the T-Mobile talk

BlackBerry Curve 9380 hits the FCC, talking the T-Mobile talk

Posted on Nov 25, 2011 by MG1

RIM's first all-screen Curve has sashayed over to the FCC. Two models of the BlackBerry Curve 9380, the REA70UW and REB70UW, are included in the latest filing, which goes into typical laborious detail on radio frequencies and the like. Thankfully, those myriad charts and graphs reveal support for WCDMA band IV, meaning that the phone plays nice with T-Mobile's 3G network. Let's just hope that, if given the chance to strut its stuff in the US market, it follows the Curve family tradition of arriving keenly priced. We'll have to wait and see if it hits our wallet's sweet spot, but for those more interested in the phone's internals, the source link beckons below.

HTC G1 gets a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich

HTC G1 gets a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich

Posted on Nov 24, 2011 by MG1

Even though Ice Cream Sandwich is popping up everywhere since its source code was released to the public, we've got to give a shout out now that its been squeezed onto the original Google phone, HTC's G1. The G1 was last seen sporting an unofficial Honeycomb port, and now jcarrz1 from XDA-Developers is showing off his device running Android 4.0 in this video. So far the touchscreen is (slowly) working, along with all apps and "ICS goodies", though WiFi, Bluetooth and rotation are still out. That's a nice effort for a device that some said wouldn't see any versions past 1.5, so press play and witness the unholy fusion of Android's past and present working all at once, or hit the source link b...

T-Mobile's 42 Mbps HSPA+ network now covers 180 million Americans

T-Mobile's 42 Mbps HSPA+ network now covers 180 million Americans

Posted on Nov 21, 2011 by MG15

Earlier this week T-Mobile announced that they’ve launched 42 Mbps HSPA+ in 11 new markets, bringing the total number of markets where their high speed wireless broadband is available to 163. To put that into plain English, roughly 180 million Americans now have access to 42 Mbps HSPA+. They also announced that they’ve brought 21 Mbps HSPA+ to 9 additional markets, bringing the total to 208 markets, or more than 200 million Americans. Now for reasons we don’t quite understand, HSPA+ isn’t getting the same amount of love that LTE is. It’s been shown that 42 Mbps HSPA+ can compete perfectly well with LTE in terms of download speeds. Not only that, but HSPA+, unlike LTE, supports voice and SMS....

T-Mobile announced on Monday that two affordable Android phones, the myTouch and the myTouch Q, will launch on November 2nd for $80 a piece after a $50 mail-in rebate and with a new two-year contract. The myTouch is equipped with a 3.8-inch display, a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a 5-megapixel camera capable of recording 720p video and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The myTouch Q offers a smaller 3.5-inch display but otherwise has many of the same specs. The biggest difference, however, is that the myTouch Q also includes a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard. LG DoublePlay on sale at T-Mobile earlier than expected

LG DoublePlay on sale at T-Mobile earlier than expected

While it may have originally been pegged for a November 2 release, the dual-screen packing LG DoublePlay is now on sale at T-Mobile for $99.99 with a new two-year contract or a qualified two year upgrade.
We were first introduced to the LG DoublePlay back in May and it was just two weeks ago that the first official press shots of the dual-screen smartphone surfaced. The DoublePlay is an Android 2.3 device and is powered by a single-core 1GHz processor. The main display of this smartphone measures in at 3.5-inches.
What makes the DoublePlay unique is what you see when you slide out the full QWERTY keyboard. In the middle of the keyboard is a 2-inch display that can operate separately or in ...

Samsung Exhibit II 4G to be shown off for T-Mobile at Walmart tomorrow, official channels November 2nd

Samsung Exhibit II 4G to be shown off for T-Mobile at Walmart tomorrow, official channels November 2nd

Posted on Oct 26, 2011 by MG1

The original Samsung Exhibit was a mere blip on T-Mobile's radar screen when it originally launched, being obscured by titans like the HTC Sensation 4G. The sequel, curiously coming out a whole four months after its predecessor, is ready to see if it can buck the trend and offer a decent option to those seeking an inexpensive Android device. Starting at $30 after mail in rebate and with a two-year commitment, it's poised to launch tomorrow in Walmart stores nationwide, with stock coming into official T-Mobile channels on November 2nd. If you're feeling contract-averse, however, you can still procure the device for two Benjamins. Not bad for a phone that comes with Gingerbread, a 3.7-inch WVG...

T-Mobile's Galaxy S II has been rooted!

Those of you with T-Mobile’s version of the Samsung Galaxy S II may be glad to know that your device of choice has been rooted. I’m saying “may” because not everyone is interested to modify its SGS2 smartphone, since the out-of-box experience is already rock-solid.

The HTC Radar 4G shows up on T-Mobile USA’s website as coming soon

Posted on Oct 20, 2011 by MG1

The HTC Radar 4G has shown up on T-Mobile USA’s website as coming soon. The handset is currently expected to hit stores on the 2nd November, and T-Mobile is touting its HSDPA+ abilities, which the carrier and AT&T are both labelling as 4G speeds.
While the handset is welcome, many T-Mobile USA subscribers are still complaining that they will not be getting the HTC Titan, a somewhat more premium handset, that may have to wait for the T-Mobile/AT&T merger to be available to all.

T-Mobile gives Wildfire S, free SMS to keep iPhone defectors

T-Mobile gives Wildfire S, free SMS to keep iPhone defectors

Posted on Oct 18, 2011 by MG1

T-Mobile has been giving staff a flurry of options to try and keep customers from jumping ship for the iPhone 4S. New staff memos have shown the carrier giving out 500,000 text messages to existing T-Mobile subscribers who have unlocked iPhones. This would be to address those between October 18 and 20 who have a "high likelihood to churn" because they want a new iPhone, TmoNews saw.
Another offer is pitched more at those who would leave for the iPhone 3GS. T-Mobile would specifically try to pitch the "value of the open Android market place" by reminding them they can now get the HTC Wildfire S for free on a hardware upgrade and with a rebate. The choice is unusual given its status as an entr...

Samsung Galaxy W to be Exhibit II 4G on T-Mobile

Samsung Galaxy W to be Exhibit II 4G on T-Mobile

Posted on Oct 13, 2011 by MG1

The Samsung Galaxy W has surfaced and looks to be heading to T-Mobile as the Exhibit II 4G. The handset was first revealed back in August, when Samsung unveiled its new naming scheme for its smartphone product lines. The “S” series, as in the Galaxy S, represented its flagship line followed by R, W, M, and Y series in descending order, which marks the Samsung Galaxy W, or Exhibit II 4G, to be a mid-range device.
The Exhibit II 4G, whose name was revealed today by TmoNews, has also been codenamed Ancora in some markets and is expected to feature a 3.7-inch WVGA screen, a 1.4GHz single-core processor, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera. Those are pretty d...
