Leaked BlackBerry Torch 9810 OS includes mobile hotspot

Posted on Dec 09, 2011 by MG1

Following up on the recent leak of a BlackBerry Bold 9900 OS with a new mobile hotspot feature, another build for the BlackBerry Torch 9810 has recently found its way into the wild. After sideloading it through the BlackBerry desktop software, you would be able to share your HSPA+ connection with up to 5 nearby gadgets over Wi-Fi, which is something most smartphones have been doing for years now, but RIM’s still playing catch-up.
The BlackBerry Torch 9810 launched over the summer on AT&T, and the AWS-compatible version recently found its way to Wind Mobile, Mobilicity, and T-Mobile. It’s fairly high-end by RIM’s standards, even though the exterior of the device looks pretty much identical to...

BlackBerry Bold 9900 and Torch 9810 appear in Rogers upgrade system

BlackBerry Bold 9900 and Torch 9810 appear in Rogers upgrade system

Posted on Aug 09, 2011 by MG1

While we'd heard word on Bell's -- and most of the US carriers -- pending launch of the Bold 9900 and Torch 9810 BlackBerry 7 devices, the Rogers rumor mill stayed shuttered. That's all changed with the lovely screengrab you can peep above apparently from the Rogers point-of-sale system upgrades department. While sadly this little gem doesn't mention dates or pricing for this highly anticipated duo, Rogers has typically been first to market with new BlackBerry goods in Canada -- and we're hopeful that holds true in this case. But if we had to guess at a ballpark figure, Vodafone UK priced the Bold 9900 at roughly $650 and has us thinking we might see something in that realm over here. There'...

AT&T to launch BlackBerry Torch 9810 this month, Torch 9860 and Bold 9900 later this year

Posted on Aug 04, 2011 by MG1

Research in Motion has had better days -- and years, for that matter -- but it's always had a loyal partner in AT&T, a company that's cranked out BlackBerry products faithfully for the past twelve years. The tradition continues, as the GSM giant has announced its intentions to bring the 4G BlackBerry Torch 9810 (aka the Torch 2) to stores sometime this month, followed by the 4G BlackBerry Torch 9860 and 4G Bold 9900 "later this year." No specific dates or prices were given on any of the devices.
The Torch 9810 comes with a 1.2GHz CPU, 3.2-inch touch display, a total of 8GB internal memory (with microSD expansion up to 32GB), and a 5 megapixel camera with 720p HD video capture. Oh, and about ...

RIM's BlackBerry Torch 9810 emerges on AT&T's website, touts '4G' capabilities

Posted on Aug 03, 2011 by MG1

Well, hello beautiful! Can't say we were expecting to see RIM launch a new BlackBerry this evening, but we're sure there's quite a few of you out there that'll take it. The same BlackBerry Torch 2 that we previewed back in June has made the trek over to Ma Bell's network, with a 'Coming Soon' page emerging just moments ago. AT&T claims that this is the world's first 4G BlackBerry on its airwaves, but of course, that asterisk upside the "4G" logo couldn't possibly be more telling. Regardless, the full-featured slider will arrive with BlackBerry 7 OS, a full QWERTY keyboard, sliding display, 1.2GHz processor, 8GB of onboard memory, room for 32GB of expandable storage, 720p video capture, inbui...

BlackBerry Torch 9810 coming to Rogers

BlackBerry Torch 9810 coming to Rogers

Posted on Jul 29, 2011 by MG1

We’ve been hearing an awful lot about the U.S. carriers getting OS 7 BlackBerry devices, but not so much about us poor souls up north. Luckily, a few shots of Rogers in-store materials for the new Torch 9810 have slipped out. No mention of pricing, nor if Rogers will be getting the other OS 7 devices soon, like the Torch 9860, but it’s a safe assumption that Rogers and all of the major Canadian carriers (like Bell) will get at least a few of the new smartphones.
Athough the Torch 9810 looks an awful lot like its predecessor, it does bump up the processor speed to 1.2 GHz, improves RAM to 768 MB, and though the screen is still 3.2 inches and camera 5 megapixels, the display resolution is now ...

BlackBerry Torch 9810 passes through FCC

BlackBerry Torch 9810 passes through FCC

Posted on Jul 19, 2011 by MG1

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 recently passed FCC certification, but that’s not the only RIM device coming down the pipe. The Torch 2 9810 has also made its way through the testing rigamarole, which suggests that it’s one of the multiple devices RIM has promised in the next month. The bands tested line up with AT&T’s HSPA network, so that locks in at least one supporting carrier for launch.
Like most of the next-generation BlackBerry smartphones, the Torch 9810 will have a near-field communications chip built in for contactless payments and other neat applications. There will also be a magnetic compass included which will enable augmented reality appls like Wikitude. From what we’ve seen in leaked...

BlackBerry Torch 2 slides through the FCC, bound for AT&T?

BlackBerry Torch 2 slides through the FCC, bound for AT&T?

Posted on Jul 18, 2011 by MG3

We've already gotten our grubby little mitts on it, and it looks like soon enough you too will be able to wrap your QWERTY-loving digits around a Torch 2. It looks like the display-centric BlackBerry just slid its way through the FCC, sporting 850MHz and 1900MHz GSM bands, indicating this particular model (listed as RDM71UW) is destined for AT&T. Obviously, even if this is in fact the Torch 2, an FCC filing is not exactly a confirmed release date -- so don't start lining up outside your local AT&T outlet just yet.

In addition to supporting new Flash developer tools in the latest version of the BlackBerry PlayBook firmware, RIM has announced new device simulators for upcoming, previously-unnannounced OS 7 devices so developers can start developing for them. The biggest thing is making the appropriate changes for screen sizes, which RIM outlined in a handy little table.
