Samsung GALAXY Nexus looks like it has seen a ghost

Posted on Jan 16, 2012 by MG1

Earlier this month, we told you that U.K. retailer Clove was taking pre-orders for the Samsung GALAXY Nexus in white. Now, thanks to the dudes and dudettes at AndroidHD Blog, we have pictures of the pale version of the device to show you. In case you were wondering (and we know you were), only the back and sides of the phone are white and the front is still black as on the original release.
While originally, the white Samsung GALAXY Nexus was to appear in the U.K. the week of February 6th, the latest info says that the handset will be available the week of March 6th. Pricing will be the same as the original "titanium silver" unit. As we pointed out before, this model is the GSM version of th...

Curious as to what that white Galaxy Nexus looks like? Retailer Clove has joined the UK retailers listing the vanilla variant of the Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone, and has shared some official images so you can see just how much white you’re getting. As with the white Nexus S before it, the display section itself is actually still black: only the edges and rear panel are changed.

Galaxy Nexus/Nexus S 4.0.3 Update Pulled

Posted on Dec 22, 2011 by MG1

If you have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus S or Galaxy Nexus smartphone and you were set to grab the update for the device that surfaced a few days ago, you can’t get it now. Apparently, the update has been pulled by Google due to some sort of issue. The update took the smartphone to 4.0.3.
The people that updated to the new version while it was available are sorry that they did at this point. Apparently, the update doesn’t work well on the smartphone. The Nexus S users with the update are having battery drain issues.

Netflix HD ported to the Galaxy Nexus

Netflix HD ported to the Galaxy Nexus

Posted on Dec 21, 2011 by MG15

We hope that it's officially coming from Netflix sooner rather than later, but in the meantime, the good folks at xda have ported Netflix HD for use on the sweet 720p screen of the Galaxy Nexus. Netflix has said that HD would be supported first on TI OMAP-based handsets, so the Galaxy Nexus should be on the short list there.

The port does come with a couple caveats though. The video doesn't stretch to fit the screen fully, so if you have an aversion to the black bars, you may be annoyed with this, but the quality of the video should be enough to make you happy. Also, there are reports that this APK has compatibility issues with Android 4.0.3, so you'll be better served if you haven't gotte...

How to check your GSM Galaxy Nexus version

How to check your GSM Galaxy Nexus version

Posted on Dec 20, 2011 by MG15

For those of you out there who have the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, but aren't on Verizon, we have a trick for you that will show you what variant of the GSM Galaxy Nexus you have with a simple app from the Market. No matter what version you have, you'll get the OTA updates directly from Google, but some will have region/carrier specific tweaks.

Just grab the GN Official Update Checker app from the Android Market, which will let you know what you're dealing with. Verizon Galaxy Nexus users will all see that your device is labeled as "mysid" and that your updates are not coming direct from Google, because your device needs the Verizon specific tweaks, which need to be tested by Verizon before bei...

Android 4.0 ICS tablet interface discovered inside Galaxy Nexus

Android 4.0 ICS tablet interface discovered inside Galaxy Nexus

Posted on Dec 19, 2011 by MG1

Back a few months ago there was a discovery made by an intrepid developer inside Android’s Honeycomb OS in which changing the LCD density to a smaller value than the tablet it was running on had revealed a smartphone interface for the otherwise tablet-sized OS – one day after the USA-based Galaxy Nexus has been revealed here in the USA and our pal Michael Crider from Android Community has discovered that essentially the same thing happens in reverse with Ice Cream Sandwich. What Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is meant to do for the Google mobile OS is create one single OS that works just as well for handsets as it does for tablets, but until now we’ve got less than an adequate look at what t...

Google Wallet hacks to work on Verizon Galaxy Nexus

Google Wallet hacks to work on Verizon Galaxy Nexus

Posted on Dec 19, 2011 by MG1

Well this didn’t take long. Google Wallet is now unofficially available for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus. This is truly ironic considering all of the bad turmoil that has been going on for the past few days, which allegedly has Big Red blocking the payment service. Thanks to the hard-working Android community people are able to get their hands on the Wallet service, but only if you’re willing to root your phone and follow a relatively simple guide.
What’s even cooler about this back door way into the Google Wallet app is you’re still able to get your hands on the complimentary $10 Google prepaid card once you sign up. If you’re the tinkering type who really wants to experience the pay and go wit...

Galaxy Nexus available now on Bell and Virgin Mobile Canada for $160 on contract

Posted on Dec 09, 2011 by MG1

Call out the Royal Canadian Mounted Police guard, the Galaxy Nexus is ready to grace the northest of North American mitts. That Ice Cream Sandwich flagship is now up for order on Bell and Virgin Mobile at $160 with a three-year commitment and $650 for the contract-averse. We've already crowned this Google/Sammy lovechild as king of the Android heap, but of course the real litmus test is whether or not it wins over your hard-earned dollars. If you need a refresher (or an extra persuasive boost), you can check out our exhaustive software review. Otherwise, we'd advise you unlace those hockey skates, set those curling rocks aside and hit up the source with your credit cards at the ready.

Samsung GALAXY Nexus training material for Verizon resellers leaks

Samsung GALAXY Nexus training material for Verizon resellers leaks

Posted on Dec 06, 2011 by MG1

Let's say you are a rep for a third party Verizon reseller and the Samsung GALAXY Nexus has finally been launched. If someone comes into the store asking questions about the device, you are going to be glad that Big Red provided you with some training material to study. "Yes, Mr. Smith, the screen on the Samsung GALAXY Nexus is the world's first HD Super AMOLED display allowing you to watch YouTube videos and movies in high-def.
Plenty of space on the training material was given to Google+ and its Circles, Hangouts and Messenger applications. Of course, Verizon provided a list of the Samsung GALAXY Nexus' game changing features such as the curved display which helps prevent scratches on the ...

Verizon Galaxy Nexus arrives in stores - Still just a tease

Verizon Galaxy Nexus arrives in stores - Still just a tease

Posted on Dec 06, 2011 by MG1

While we’re pretty much in love with the GSM version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, there’s still no official US release date and not many people are willing to throw down $750+ for it. As you may all know at this point, the Galaxy Nexus’ first stop will be a Verizon Wireless and it looks like units are beginning to arrive in the house of Big Red.
Units have began to arrive in stores today, and the picture above is just a small glimpse of the retail packaging, which varies from the GSM version. This isn’t all that surprising, as we already know Verizon has weaseled in some bloatware applications into the handset.

Google Wallet to be blocked by Verizon on Samsung GALAXY Nexus?

Google Wallet to be blocked by Verizon on Samsung GALAXY Nexus?

Posted on Dec 06, 2011 by MG1

While many potential buyers of the Samsung GALAXY Nexus didn't give it a second thought, others figured that they would be buying a device that would probably work with Google Wallet. Like the only other smartphone that supports Google Wallet (the Google Nexus 4G), the GALAXY Nexus will have the necessary NFC chip embedded in the battery door. Unfortunately, Verizon will not allow the first Android 4.0 phone to access Google Wallet.
The reason for this is quite simple. Big Red is one of the companies involved with Google Wallet competitor ISIS, which also uses NFC technology. Others involved with ISIS include manufacturers HTC, LG, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, RIM and Samsung. Other carriers inv...
