Sprint begins employee training for Galaxy Nexus, launch looks imminent

Sprint begins employee training for Galaxy Nexus, launch looks imminent

Posted on Apr 04, 2012 by MG3

First it appeared in a slipped ad, and then on The Engadget Show during CES. More recently, Sprint's variant of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus was spotted coasting through the FCC, and now it's practically a lock to launch between three and six weeks from now. We've received word that Sprint has initiated employee training specifically for the Galaxy Nexus and Android 4.0, which will enlighten staff on the benefits of the handset, ICS and Google Wallet. Those involved with the training have to wrap things up within the next fortnight, leading us to believe that it'll make its way into retail outlets in late April or early May. In related news, the coursework also makes mention of enabling LTE on a...

Sprint Galaxy Nexus specs leak, no bump in processor speed

Before a new smartphone is launched, a carrier must first make sure that its employees are well familiar with the device. Same is the case with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which Sprint is expected to release later this month: tipsters say that the carrier is already running training sessions with its personnel. And what a great opportunity for some insider intelligence to leak on the web, don't you think?

White Galaxy Nexus 16GB coming to Verizon on April 5th?

White Galaxy Nexus 16GB coming to Verizon on April 5th?

Posted on Mar 06, 2012 by MG3

We’ve been seeing photos of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus all decked out in white, but so far no word on a U.S. release date. According to a device launch schedule given to Droid-Life, it appears that the 16GB version of the Galaxy Nexus will be arriving at Verizon on April 5th in both the white and gray variety.
While many of you will be disappointed that there won’t be a white 32GB Galaxy Nexus, it may be good news for those hoping to score a Galaxy Nexus at a more equitable rate – it seems likely that the launch of the versions with less internal memory will be concurrent with a reduction in price. At that point we’d expect the Galaxy Nexus to be $199 on contract, and likely less from other re...

Owners report that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is plagued by random reboots

Owners report that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is plagued by random reboots

Posted on Jan 17, 2012 by MG15

We’re not arguing about it, but it must surely be wonderful being the Samsung Galaxy Nexus – considering that it’s the sole device on the market available right now packing Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Being the coveted smartphone it is, we’re all going to instinctively watch everything that goes on with it like a hawk, but as we know, it’s usually the problems that tend to stick out more than others. Already, we’ve reported about the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and its maddening volume control issue back in November, but this time around, it seems yet another issue is plaguing the venerable device. Although it apparently seems to be more widespread with the GSM flavored Galaxy Nexus, even Veriz...

Sprint Unveils First LTE Phones: The Galaxy Nexus And The LG Viper

Sprint’s LTE network is only slated to go live in a handful of markets right now, but the country’s third largest wireless carrier is wasting no time in introducing some hew hardware to take advantage of the nascent network.
We were all thrown for a loop when a Sprint Galaxy Nexus popped up in an online ad recently, and the company has just recently confirmed that the handset is indeed the real deal

Sprint LTE Google Galaxy Nexus gets 16GB storage, Google Wallet compatibility (updated)

Sprint LTE Google Galaxy Nexus gets 16GB storage, Google Wallet compatibility (updated)

Posted on Jan 11, 2012 by MG3

Sprint has revealed more details about the Google Galaxy Nexus smartphone on a landing page highlighting its forth-coming 4G LTE network. According to the page, the Sprint version of the Galaxy Nexus will have 16GB of internal storage like the HSPA+ model (the LTE version for Verizon Wireless has 32GB), and it will support Google Wallet, unlike other versions of the Galaxy Nexus. Verizon caused quite a commotion when it said that the version of the Galaxy Nexus that it carries would not support Google Wallet, but it doesn't look like Sprint users will have to worry about that.

Sprint Ad Announces Galaxy Nexus with 1.5 GHz SoC

Sprint Ad Announces Galaxy Nexus with 1.5 GHz SoC

Posted on Jan 06, 2012 by MG3

Sprint seems to be busy with its announcements today, and the latest comes in the form of an unassuming-looking advert on CNet. Ordinarily, a US carrier announcing yet another carrier-specific version of the same device isn't big news, but what's interesting about the Sprint Galaxy Nexus is that it notes the inclusion of a 1.5 GHz SoC.

Netflix HD ported to the Galaxy Nexus

Netflix HD ported to the Galaxy Nexus

Posted on Dec 21, 2011 by MG15

We hope that it's officially coming from Netflix sooner rather than later, but in the meantime, the good folks at xda have ported Netflix HD for use on the sweet 720p screen of the Galaxy Nexus. Netflix has said that HD would be supported first on TI OMAP-based handsets, so the Galaxy Nexus should be on the short list there.

The port does come with a couple caveats though. The video doesn't stretch to fit the screen fully, so if you have an aversion to the black bars, you may be annoyed with this, but the quality of the video should be enough to make you happy. Also, there are reports that this APK has compatibility issues with Android 4.0.3, so you'll be better served if you haven't gotte...

Installing Google Wallet on the Nexus Just Got Way Easier

Installing Google Wallet on the Nexus Just Got Way Easier

Posted on Dec 20, 2011 by MG15

erizon thought it was sooo slick, blocking Google Wallet on the new Galaxy Nexus in order to promote its in-house alternative. Too bad Verizon didn't count on the Internet.

Thanks to some kindly souls over at the XDA-Developers Forum, Google Wallet is now available on the Nexus—without hacks or roots. They were able to modify the app to work on the Nexus and install as an APK. Nexus users will need a file explorer to locate the app once its on the phone but that's about it. The APK is available for download...

Galaxy Nexus antennagate? Verizon confirms its signal strength issues

Posted on Dec 20, 2011 by MG15

It seems that the new Google/Samsung Galaxy Nexus is having a little “antennagate” of its own. After Twitter user Jack Doyle tweeted to Verizon about signal strength issues he’s experiencing with his Galaxy Nexus, the Verizon Wireless Support team confirmed: “The signal strength issue is currently being investigated. We don’t have an ETA, but a software update is being developed.”

Galaxy Nexus has curved PenTile OLED display

Galaxy Nexus has curved PenTile OLED display

Posted on Oct 24, 2011 by MG15

For those of you who like to be rather specific about your smart devices and their displays, it’s time to get down to brass tacks about the Galaxy Nexus and it’s OLED display. Specifically what we want to focus on here is the fact that when you’ve got PenTile in play (that is, on a Super AMOLED display like we’re seeing here) instead of NOT in play (like on a Super AMOLED PLUS display), you get loss of detail. It becomes important when you have a close look at how pixels are shared (or not shared, as it were with S.A.PLUS displays) and what that in itself means for sharpness of picture and text sharpness.
