Sprint and Samsung released a small software update for the Epic 4G, fixing the force close error when receiving a call and adding what is called the “Sprint Connections Optimizer.” According to the Now Network, software version S:D700.0.5S.FC09 will be released in stages with 100% of devices having received the update within approximately 6 weeks.

Sprint has announced that the long-awaited Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Samsung Epic 4G will be pushed to users starting today. In addition to the upgraded version of Android, the update brings fixes for Bluetooth headset sound quality, lockscreen issues, and Microsoft Exchange syncing. Users should get a notification on their phones when the update is ready to be downloaded and installed.

A leaked screenshot of an internal Sprint document was obtained by SprintFeed, and shows which devices the carrier has branded as "EOL" (end of life, although end of the line is more appropriate) and when the handsets will be phased out. Some of the phones being removed from Sprint's lineup are household names such as the HTC EVO 4G, the nation's first 4G enabled device. Also being phased out is the carrier's second 4G handset, the Samsung Epic 4G. Both devices have been replaced with newer models like the HTC EVO 3D and the Samsung built Nexus S 4G, offering the latest high-end specs to Sprint customers with the former adding 3D functionality.

On the heels of the recently leaked Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread update for Samsung Captivate, SamFirmware managed to grab the same software for another member of the Galaxy S family – Sprint’s Epic 4G, which (if you recall) rocks a full side-sliding QWERTY keyboard in addition to the 4-inch touchscreen.
As you can imagine, this isn’t the official yet. Rather the process of updating will require some technical skills and there’s also a risk of your device being bricked if something goes wrong. In any case, you can’t hold IntoMobile responsible… A short disclaimer I had to add.
