Motorola Droid Bionic officially hits Verizon Sept. 8

Motorola Droid Bionic officially hits Verizon Sept. 8

Posted on Aug 30, 2011 by MG1

The long wait for the Droid Bionic is almost over, as Verizon’s first dual-core, 4G LTE phone will be landing Sept. 8.
“On September 8th 2011, the Motorola Droid Bionic will be in your hands.” the Droid Bionic official Twitter account said.
This will end a long and strange journey, as the Motorola Droid Bionic was first introduced in January at CES with a scheduled summer release time. Since then, the Droid Bionic has gone through a system redesign, three Verizon 4G LTE phones have been released and Motorola itself has been acquired by Google (or will be soon).
The long wait may have also killed some of the buzz, as Blake is passing on the Droid Bionic in favor of the upcoming Samsung Nexus ...

Motorola DROID BIONIC appears on Motorola Store, still no official price or launch date

Motorola DROID BIONIC appears on Motorola Store, still no official price or launch date

Posted on Aug 29, 2011 by MG15

Yes, there will come a time when the Motorola DROID BIONIC actually gets launched and you are going to go through some type of news withdrawal. It seems that there is something new happening with this device everyday except for the release of the official launch date and the official price of the long-awaited phone.

The latest news is that the Motorola DROID BIONIC has now been listed on Motorola's online store. Unfortunately, there is no button to click on to pre-order the device. Instead, Motorola left the box that usually has that order button, blank. The "Description" and "Technical Specs" areas were also left blank. One curious note, the screen-size is listed as 4.3? qHD. Most likely a...

Motorola DROID BIONIC battery life hinted in photos

Motorola DROID BIONIC battery life hinted in photos

Posted on Aug 26, 2011 by MG15

The Motorola DROID BIONIC is supposed to sport the above average battery life that we are accustomed to give Motorola credit for with its Android handsets running Texas Instruments silicon. It was also confirmed by a tester a few weeks ago.

A few photos have now emerged that show the battery meter at different stages during a DROID BIONIC usage. Up to the 60% mark the phone had been hooked up to Verizon's 3G network, and lasted about 15 hours. Then the user flipped the LTE switch, and the phone ate 10% more in four hours, arriving with the 4G connectivity on at the 25-hour mark, and still having 15% of juice left.

DROID 3 gets one-click root, could extend to all Gingerbread Motos

DROID 3 gets one-click root, could extend to all Gingerbread Motos

Posted on Aug 26, 2011 by MG15

The Motorola DROID 3 is locked down no more. It was a good day for the root community. Earlier today, a root method was finally found for the DROID 3, and just hours later a (pseudo) one-click root method was created by Framework43 and psouza4. And, best of all, it looks like this root method will work on all Motorola phones running Gingerbread, including possibly the soon to be released DROID Bionic.

Of course, once there is a reliable root method, the only thing left is for some custom ROMs to be build for the phone. Everything is part of the cycle. Just about a week ago, the source code for the DROID 3 was released, and made its way to the XDA forums. That source code not only lead to t...

Motorola XOOM 4G LTE upgrade begins next week

Posted on Aug 26, 2011 by MG15

Motorola has started to email XOOM customers to alert them that it will begin to upgrade the XOOM with support for 4G LTE next week. According to Droid-Life, Motorola will start with business and government customers during a “pilot program” first and then will begin updating XOOMs owned by the general public. Customers will need to file an upgrade request before Motorola mails a package containing a pre-paid FedEx box and instructional material. Motorola suggests backing up the data on your XOOM before sending it in and said the process should take approximately three business days. Read on for an image confirming the details.

Motrola forced to pull ATRIX ads that claim most powerful smartphone in UK

Motrola forced to pull ATRIX ads that claim most powerful smartphone in UK

Posted on Aug 25, 2011 by MG15

It looks like Motorola will end up having to rework its advertising plans for the Motorola ATRIX smartphone in the UK, as a court has ruled that it can no longer claim it as the "most powerful" smartphone available. Last month, UK consumers filed a complaint against the tagline, since the Samsung Galaxy S II sports a 1.2GHz processor, compared to the ATRIX's 1GHz chip.

This week, the UK Advertising Standards Authority said that Motorola would have to pull the offending ad, despite Motorola's protests. Motorola argued that "powerful" referred to the ATRIX's ability to run multiple devices, such as its Lapdock and HD dock, and not the processor speed specifically. The ASA disagreed though, si...

Motorola Droid 2 Global Gingerbread firmware leaked

Posted on Aug 25, 2011 by MG15

We have a strong reason to believe that the Gingerbread update for the MotorolaDroid 2 Global will be launched within weeks maybe even days. As a matter of fact, thanks to Android developer aceoyame from RootzWiki – you can already try out the latest version of Android for smartphones today. However, it’s not the “regular” update, but one that will require some hacking on your end. If you’re feeling tech savvy enough and are ready to experiment, proceed to this page where all the instructions are located. You should be aware that such a move could brick your phone if something goes wrong, so you better backup all your data and apps prior to proceeding.

Droid Bionic teases boot sequence, LTE prowess to anxious onlookers

Droid Bionic teases boot sequence, LTE prowess to anxious onlookers

Posted on Aug 25, 2011 by MG15

That's right folks, the Droid Bionic is back with another leaked appearance. This time it stars in a video clip that reveals the phone's boot sequence, which is followed by an all-important thrill ride / speed test on Verizon's LTE network. As if you needed further proof, this Moto reveals itself to pack dual cores, and as you might expect, it sports Motorola's animation-laden skin. What about the LTE test, you ask? It pulls in respectable numbers -- approximately 4.5Mbps down and 1.9Mbps up -- but as you're likely aware, these speeds pale in comparison to what we've seen on the Droid Charge and Revolution.

Microsoft starts ITC trial against Motorola, asks to block all Droid imports

Posted on Aug 23, 2011 by MG15

Filed in: MicrosoftMotorola

The case has been rumbling for a while but Microsoft is finally having its day in court with Google’s new fiancé, Motorola.

Microsoft’s case against Motorola at the ITC in Washington has started today. Microsoft is accused Motorola Mobility of infringing seven of its patents which Microsoft calls “essential to the smartphone user experience,” including ways to synchronize e- mail, calendars and contacts; schedule meetings; and notify applications of changes in signal strength and battery power.

“We have a responsibility to our employees, customers, partners and shareholders to safeguard our intellectual property,” David Howard, Microsoft’s corporate vice president and deputy general counse...

HTC EVO 3D and Motorola PHOTON 4G $99 at Amazon with free activation until tomorrow

HTC EVO 3D and Motorola PHOTON 4G $99 at Amazon with free activation until tomorrow

Posted on Aug 22, 2011 by MG15

Two of the best Android handsets money can currently buy in the US - the HTC EVO 3D and the Motorola PHOTON 4G - got lowered to $99 on Amazon for new contracts.

What's more, until midnight today, your activation fee for Sprint is waived as well, which makes the deal $36 sweeter.

We can't argue with the phrase that good things come to those who wait, but in this case you might have to wait for the holiday season for these two handsets to become free on contract, so if you have been eying one of them, now might be the time to pull the trigger.

Motorola's XT531 hits the FCC, ready for its US crossover

Motorola's XT531 hits the FCC, ready for its US crossover

Posted on Aug 22, 2011 by MG15

Motorola's XT531 has gone through more name changes than a certain rapper-cum-vodka shilling mogul, and the trend might continue as it makes its way to the US. The budget-friendly handset, known as the Fire XT in Europe and the Spice XT in Latin America, has just surfaced at the FCC toting AT&T-compatible GSM bands, UMTS / HSDPA 850MHz / 1900MHz support, WiFi and Bluetooth. Based on Moto's official PR for the handset's Chinese release, we know this 3.5-incher also sports a front-facing VGA / 5 megapixel rear camera, and is set to launch with Android 2.3 onboard. With Google's newest pal clearly chasing after heat-related naming conventions, we expect to see this one launch with an equally ca...
