Motorola working on next-generation Webtop with Chrome support

In our roundtable discussion with Sanjay Jha today, Motorola's CEO slipped a couple revelations around its Webtop initiative — the laptop-alternative OS tucked away on many of the company's newer Android phones. As it exists today, the system has been widely panned for its limited capabilities — it's basically desktop Firefox with access to your Android applications — but Jha says that work on the next iteration of Webtop is underway. "Financial, in terms of our take-up rate, it's somewhere in the nine percent range," Jha said, suggesting that less than a tenth of buyers of Webtop-capable Moto devices are actually using it. When asked whether they'll continue using Firefox, he said that they...

Motorola began issuing the Android 3.2 (Honeycomb) update to Wi-Fi XOOM owners on Tuesday. The patch reportedly adds support for the tablet’s SD card slot and also features a new screen zooming feature that will allow users to resize mobile applications so that they fit the screen appropriately. Android 3.2 will also add support for smaller tablets with 7-inch screens, many of which currently run older versions of Android such as Gingerbread. Google also announced that it is releasing parts of the Android 3.2 source code to the Android Open Source Project.

Motorola UK offering free wireless keyboard and mouse with Xoom tablet purchase

Motorola UK offering free wireless keyboard and mouse with Xoom tablet purchase

Posted on Jul 11, 2011 by MG1

We know Motorola has started slashing prices of the Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi tablet pretty much everywhere, though we’re not sure whether it’s the result of poor sales and increased competition or the upcoming release of Xoom 2. Whatever the reason behind Moto’s decision to cut prices is, we love it for allowing more people to enter the “tablet space.”
Instead of directly cutting prices, Motorola has a bit different strategy in the UK. At the moment of this writing, their British division is offering free wireless keyboard and mouse with every Xoom tablet purchase. The deal is good while stocks last, so you better hurry.

Motorola Xoom WiFi price cut to $499 - Slow sales or Xoom 2 coming?

Motorola Xoom WiFi price cut to $499 - Slow sales or Xoom 2 coming?

Posted on Jul 07, 2011 by MG1

The price of the Motorola Xoom WiFi has been cut seemingly everywhere, no longer making Costco the go-to place for the first Honeycomb tablet. You can now grab the Xoom for only $499 in most places and even cheaper at Staples.
The Motorola Store, Amazon, and Staples now carry the tablet for the new $499 price point and the latter has a coupon code that will shave off an extra $50 from the overall price (51758). It took Moto long enough to bring the tablet’s pricing down but we’re wondering if it’s whether the competition is besting the Xoom, or if the price cut is a sign of things to come.
