The Z77A-G45 is going to be one of the more affordable socket LGA1155 motherboards based on the Intel Z77 chipset, by MSI. The Z77A series from MSI starts with high end Z77A-GD80, Z77A-GD65, and Z77A-GD55. eTeknix scored pictures of the Z77A-G45. The G45 uses a simple 6-phase VRM to power the LGA1155 CPU. It doesn't cheap out on cooling for the MOSFETs. The socket is wired to four DDR3 DIMM slots, supporting dual-channel DDR3 memory.
The expansion slot area is identical to that of all the other Z77A series motherboards, consisting of two PCI-Express 3.0 x16 (x8/x8 when both are populated), one PCI-Express 2.0 x16 (electrical x4), and four PCI-Express 2.0 x1. MSI gave legacy PCI the boot. St...

MSI Announces TwinFrozr III Powered Radeon HD 7800 Series

Posted on Mar 06, 2012 by MG1

MSI announced two Radeon HD 7800 series graphics cards, both based on its TwinFrozr III cooling solution, albeit different variants. The R7870 TwinFrozr III from MSI uses a long PCB, and a meatier version of the TwinFrozr III cooler, which has been featured on high-end GeForce GTX 500 and Radeon HD 6900 series, in the past. It uses five 8 mm-thick nickel-plated copper heat pipes to convey heat drawn directly from the GPU, to a large aluminum fin array, ventilated by two 80 mm fans. This card is labeled to have factory-overclocked clock speeds.
The R7850 TwinFrozr III uses a shorter PCB, and a new, leaner version of the cooler, which has never been used by MSI before. It uses three 8 mm-thick...

Posted on Feb 07, 2012 by MG1

Here are the first pictures of MSI's Z77A-GD55 motherboard. The GD55 is a notch below the GD65 in terms of its feature-set, and will likely hold a cost-benefit sweetspot. The motherboard is designed to support today's "Sandy Bridge", and tomorrow's "Ivy Bridge" Core processors in the LGA1155 package, and is based on Intel's Z77 "Panther Point" chipset. The CPU is powered by a lighter 9-phase VRM compared to the 12-phase VRM on the GD65. It retains the expansion slot layout of its elder brother, consisting of two PCI-Express 3.0 x16 (x16/NC or x8/x8), four PCIe x1, and one PCIe 2.0 x4 (physical x16).
The Z77A-GD55 has two fewer SATA 6 Gb/s ports compared to the GD65, all its internal ports a...

Who knew netbooks would prove so resilient? By all means, the growing popularity and falling prices of tablet PCs along with the rollout of Intel's Ultrabook bandwagon could have spelled doom for the netbook form factor. MSI, one of the driving forces in the netbook category, just unveiled its new Wind U180 for 2012. "The Wind U180, meticulously crafted by MSI for 2012, marks a new zenith in computer technology, offering both performance and esthetically pleasing looks," MSI says. MSI showed off its upcoming socket LGA1155 motherboards based on Intel's Z77 chipset, designed to accommodate next-generation "Ivy Bridge" Core processors out of the box. Like many other motherboard manufacturers with similar motherboards on display, MSI's Z77 motherboards lack the final designs of their typically fancy-looking heatsinks over the chipset and VRM, and make do with basic ones that get the job done, and more importantly, let visitors take a look at the components in use more closely. MSI displayed two motherboards, the mid-range Z77A-GD65, and premium Z77A-GD80.
The Z77A-GD80 is designed for gaming PCs with up to two graphics cards, with a strong CPU VRM. The CPU is powered by...

For whatever reason, we envision the "god of war" being bigger than 15.6 inches, but let's not fault MSI for being excited about its new GT685 gaming laptop and calling it such. With a traditional screen size in tow, the GT685 has the chops to be a desktop replacement, and could even be a desktop killer depending on how it's spec'd out. Let's have a look at what it brings to the table.

MSI Unveils First LED-based All-in-One PC (Wind Top AE2071)

Posted on Jan 03, 2012 by MG1

All-in-one (AIO) PCs are quickly becoming a dime a dozen with little to separate one Sandy Bridge or Fusion model from the next. Credit MSI with finding a way to differentiate its new Wind Top AE2071 model from the rest by supposedly being the first in the industry to use an LED panel. Combined with MSI's "unique energy-saving technology," power consumption is reduced by 30 percent compared to conventional CCFL panels, MSI claims.
