HTC Primo specs leaked; includes Android 4.0 and Beats Audio
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsHTCGoogleAndroid 4.0One V
The new fad in Android models seems to be smaller form factors with mid-to high end specs. Just the other day, we told you about the Sony Ericsson Kumquat, which fits into this mold. Now, thanks to a tipster for Stuff, we see low to mid range specs allegedly heading for the HTC Primo. With a 3.7 inch Super AMOLED display strengthened by Gorilla Glass and a dual-core 1GHz Qualcomm processor under the hood, the HTC Primo would have the muscles to get the job done. On board is 512MB of RAM and a 5MP camera on back that captures 720p video. The dual-shutter on the camera allows you to snap photos while taking video at the same time and the f/2.0 aperture should help you take decent pictures in l...

Apple reportedly burned $100 million on patent spat with HTC
Like UnlikeFiled in: AppleHTC
Apple is said to have spent as much as $100 million on its first round of legal battles with HTC, and the company has precious little to show for it. Newsweek’s well-sourced Dan Lyons cited “a rumor going around among the lawyers” in reporting the staggering figure on his personal blog, and he noted that Apple’s onslaught of lawsuits around the world have yielded precious little for the Cupertino, California based technology giant. Meaningful wins have been few and far between for Apple in its ongoing legal battles against Android vendors. The company did score a victory last month when the International Trade Commission banned the import of several HTC smartphones it deemed to be infringing...

HTC Flyer to get treated to ICS in Q1 2012?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsTabletsHTCGoogleFlyerAndroid 4.0
HTC’s 7-inch stylus-supporting Flyer has seen its price slashed to the very affordable $299, then it was just recently updated to 3.2 Honeycomb, and now it’s confirmed to get further up in the Android hierarchy to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) in Q1 2012.
The update wasn’t officially confirmed, though - it slipped in a customer service rep mention in France, so we’d take it with a grain of salt.
Good news is that the first quarter of the year has already started and, if true, we’re left to wait nine weeks until the update arrives. Have you updated your HTC Flyer to Honeycomb already? Let us know in the comments below.

Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsHTCGoogleDesire HDAndroid 2.3
Canada’s TELUS is rolling out an OTA update for the HTC Desire HD, bringing the smartphone up to Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread. Aside from the “standard” features Gingerbread brings to the table such as improved copy/paste, UI refinements, improved power management and video calls support, there are some Desire HD specific stuff included, most notably the new version (3.0) of the HTC Sense UI. Moreover, there’s the HTC Watch app from where you can rent or buy the latest movies and shows, as well as a number of bug fixes under the hood that improve the stability of the device.
In a nutshell, the second you see that the new firmware is available, hit the update button and take it from there. Make ...

HTC Starts Scrubbing Carrier IQ From Sprint Phones
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTCSprint
Long before legislation was dominating the headlines, the Carrier IQ controversy raised the hackles of tech geeks and privacy advocates around the world. Even though the software didn’t turn out to be quite as nefarious as was originally reported, carriers and manufacturers still started distancing themselves from the tracking and diagnostic software. Along those lines, HTC is starting to roll out updates designed to scrub Carrier IQ off of its Sprint phones, starting with the HTC EVO 3D.

HTC stripping Carrier IQ from CDMA phones this month
Like UnlikeFiled in: HTCSprint
HTC has confirmed that it is removing any lingering trace of Carrier IQ from its CDMA handsets, including the HTC EVO 3D, as it moves to address the PR nightmare of the usage-tracking system. Furore over Carrier IQ broke late last year, when it was suggested by privacy advocates that some carriers and device manufacturers were preloading tracking software that periodically sent back user-information.
“HTC can confirm that we’re working with Sprint to provide maintenance releases that will remove Carrier IQ and provide security enhancements and bug fixes beginning in January” the company said in a statement to The Verge today. No specific devices were cited, but the EVO 3D is believed to be o...

Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTCTitan
WPSauce reports that arguably the best Windows Phone out at the moment, the HTC Titan, has a fatal flaw, due to its metal unibody design.
They report dramatically poor call quality which they blame on the antenna, and HTC support appear to agree that there is a problem.

Months after Gingerbread's arrival, HTC Sense remains fussy, users can't get no satisfaction
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTC
Many HTC Sense users have experienced less than ideal conditions ever since their upgrade to Gingerbread. In an issue that's likely tied to the operating system's new memory management techniques, we've seen the launcher sporadically restart upon return to the home screen, and in rarer cases, cause Sense to revert entirely to its factory settings. While the glitch is hardly new, it's rather well documented and the longstanding nature demands a proper (and expedient) update from HTC. Until that moment comes, we've included a few tips to help affected users get through the day.

HTC EVO 3D update removes Carrier IQ
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTCSprintEVO 3D
Last week, Sprint rolled out an update to its HTC EVO 3D handset but what many people didn’t know was the upgrade removed the controversial software Carrier IQ. Before this upgrade, The Now Network was reported to having somewhere north of 26 million devices carrying Carrier IQ, so this maintenance update shrinks that number down some. Sprint has 15 other devices carrying the diagnostic analysis software and most people don’t expect them to remove it from those handsets. Carrier IQ may have gotten a bad rep from all of the negative publicity its received over the last few months. The company’s job isn’t to dominate the world, it’s only to aggregate, analyze, and deliver data to wireless carr...

Sprint's HTC Evo 3D gets a small update [It's not Ice Cream Sandwich]
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTCEVO 3D
Sprint released a small firmware update for the HTC Evo 3D. “Small” obviously doesn’t include Ice Cream Sandwich and I guess we’ll have to wait for another month or so to see Android 4.0 rolling out for the 3D smartphone.
The new software version comes with some improvements under the hood that improve the battery life and the overall security of the device. Moreover, there’s the updated Peep client (to align with Twitter).
By the time you’re reading this, you may’ve been already prompted to update. If not – don’t worry, Sprint said every Evo 3D owner will get the new firmware in the next 5 days.

Kodak sues Apple, HTC over digital imaging patents
Like UnlikeFiled in: AppleKODAKHTC
Kodak has announced that it’s suing Apple and HTC for infringing on four of its digital imaging patents. It also claims HTC to be infringing on a fifth image preview patent, which is already at the center of an ongoing case that Kodak has lodged against Apple and RIM. This latest suit was filed today with the US International Trade Commission and in a New York district court.
The lawsuit claims that Apple’s iPhone, iPad, and iPod as well as HTC’s smartphones and tablets use image transmission technology that infringe on Kodak’s patents, which it has already licensed to over 30 companies, including Samsung, LG, Motorola, and Nokia. It claims to have had numerous discussions with Apple and HTC...
