Gigabyte Shows off Simplified

Gigabyte Shows off Simplified "3D BIOS" Interface for X79 UEFI

Posted on Nov 04, 2011 by MG1

We are getting closer to the launch of Sandy Bridge E and Intel's motherboard partners are eager to get out some early press about their motherboards. We saw a lot of what to expect from SNB-E motherboards at IDF, but most of the manufacturers have been holding back a bit of information on how they plan to differentiate in this ultra-competitive industry.
With Sandy Bridge we saw some of the first boards to sport UEFI instead of a traditional BIOS interface. With Sandy Bridge E, expect to see many motherboard manufacturers use their UEFI implementations as one avenue to stand out from the crowd.

Gigabyte Intros A75N-USB 3.0 Mini-ITX Motherboard for AMD A-Series APUs

Gigabyte Intros A75N-USB 3.0 Mini-ITX Motherboard for AMD A-Series APUs

Posted on Oct 28, 2011 by MG1

Gigabyte released its newest premium HTPC motherboard in the mini-ITX form-factor, the A75N-USB3. As the name might suggest, this is a socket FM1 motherboard based on the AMD A75 chipset, and features USB 3.0 connectivity. Despite its compact dimensions, the board crams in everything a HTPC can benefit from. First, the FM1 socket seats AMD A-Series accelerated processing units (APUs), which pack up to four x86-64 cores with up to 4 MB cache, dual-channel DDR3-1866 integrated memory controller, and more importantly, a very powerful integrated graphics processor in the Radeon HD 6500 class. The FM1 socket on this board is powered by a 3+1 phase VRM that makes use of driver-MOSFETs. Power is dr...

Gigabyte Teases with G1.Assasin 2 LGA2011 Motherboard Pictures

Posted on Oct 20, 2011 by MG1

Gigabyte teased us with pictures of its high-end socket LGA2011 motherboard featured in its G1.Killer series of motherboards designed for the gamer-overclocker market. The G1.Assassin 2, as it’s called, is based on the Intel X79 chipset. We don’t have landscape pictures of the board, yet, but whatever little bits of pictures we do have, reveal quite a bit. To begin with, this board will retain the black+green “weapon” styling of predecessors in the series. The LGA2011 socket is wired to four DDR3 DIMM slots, in sets of two, on either sides of the socket. Each DIMM slot has its own memory channel.
From the CPU VRM heatsink, a heat pipe is finding its way to a stylized X79 PCH heatsink. This ...

Gigabyte Force K3: A Water Resistant Keyboard for Sweaty Gamers

Gigabyte Force K3: A Water Resistant Keyboard for Sweaty Gamers

Posted on Oct 18, 2011 by MG1

If you've never pounded your keyboard in frustration or frantically mashed the keys during an intense battle, then you probably don't spend a lot of time playing games. Gamers have a tendency to be rough with their gear, and if Gigabyte's new Force K3 keyboard lives up to its billing, it could end up attracting a lot of game players who need a plank that can withstand their abuse.
This isn't a rugged keyboard by any stretch, but it does boast an enhanced four-layer frame structure with an extra chassis in the middle. This allows the single rubber sheet to be firmly attached to the bottom of the keyboard and gives the plank a bit of drop resistance.

Gigabyte denies MSI allegations

Gigabyte denies MSI allegations

Posted on Sep 21, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: MSIGIGABYTE

Earlier this month MSI's marketing department send out evidence that Gigabyte's motherboards don't truly support PCI Express 3.0(check here), but now Gigabyte defends itself with a presentation of its own.
In its short presentation with no more than 5 slides, Gigabyte tried to provide an explanation to its claim that most of its new motherboards are Gen 3-ready. The presentation begins with a diplomatic-sounding message on what is the agenda of the presentation, followed by a disclaimer that three of its recently-launched boards, Z68X-UD7-B3 & P67A-UD7/P67A-UD7-B3, lack Gen 3 readiness. This could be because those boards make use of a Gen 2 NVIDIA nForce 200 bridge chip, even the first PCI-E...

Gigabyte GA-7TESM Server Board Supports a Whopping 288GB of DDR3 Memory

Gigabyte GA-7TESM Server Board Supports a Whopping 288GB of DDR3 Memory

Posted on Sep 20, 2011 by MG1

Maybe you're aware that DDR3 memory is nearly as cheap as tap water these days. That means you can totally justify stocking up on gobs of RAM, but at what point do you stop? Long before 288GB, which is more than your motherboard or any consumer board supports, but is exactly the amount you can stick in Gigabyte's GA-7TESM motherboard.
The GA-7TESM is a dual-socket motherboard for Intel's Xeon 5500 and 5600 series. It's outfitted with 18 DIMM slots and has been validated to play nice with 16GB Netlist HyperCloud DDR3-1333 memory modules. These are special modules that utilize a technology called rank multiplication to fit 16GB on a single stick. It's a trick that hides physical ranks of chips...

MSI: Gigabyte motherboard are not PCIe Gen 3 ready

MSI: Gigabyte motherboard are not PCIe Gen 3 ready

Posted on Sep 09, 2011 by MG3

There's a bit of a mud fight inbetween MSI and Gigabyte as it seems. In short Gigabyte all of the sudden claims that many of their motherboard already are PCIe Gen 3 compatible.
MSI's marketing department has created a series of slides to rebut Gigabyte's claim that its motherboards are PCI Express 3.0 ready. The company claims that out of as many as 40 of Gigabyte's PCIe Gen 3 ready motherboards, only the G1.Sniper 2 is really ready for PCIe 3.0.

Gigabyte Releases SATA Mode Switching Tool

Gigabyte Releases SATA Mode Switching Tool

Posted on Aug 31, 2011 by MG1

Gigabyte released a new utility that allows you to change the mode of the chipset SATA controller between IDE, AHCI, and RAID (if available), from within Windows. While the switching isn't exactly on-the-fly (because changing SATA mode is effectively changing the SATA controller as Windows sees it, and hence can't happen on-the-fly), it certainly saves the trouble of going into BIOS setup and digging out that option. The utility works by writing the value of the selected mode to the CMOS, and prompting a system reboot for the change to take effect. Gigabyte's Disk Mode Switch utility works on Gigabyte motherboards based on Intel 6-series chipset (H61, H67, P67, and Z68). Now why you'd need a...

Gigabyte releases 3GB WindForce 3X GTX 580 Card

Gigabyte releases 3GB WindForce 3X GTX 580 Card

Posted on Aug 23, 2011 by MG15

Gigabyte is outting one more WindForce3 model, well its actually the ver same SO model we previously tested here, yet not with the framebuffer doubled up.

The GV-N580UD-3GI is the latest one featuring ultra Durable VGA components (reduce GPU temperature, adds 10-30% more overclocking potential and reduces power switching loss).

The WindForce 3X cooler boasts a vapor chamber, three PWM fans and just as many heatpipes.he VRAM.

Basically, the outfit implemented no less than 3 GB which, coupled with the 384-bit interface and the 4,008 speed, leaves little, if anything, to be desired.

Speaking of frequencies, the 40nm GPU (graphics processing unit) operates at 772 MHz, while the shaders (512...

Gigabyte Officially (and Finally) Launches G1.Sniper2 Motherboard

Gigabyte Officially (and Finally) Launches G1.Sniper2 Motherboard

Posted on Aug 08, 2011 by MG1

Gigabyte is finally showing socket 1155 system builders some weapon themed love with the launch of the G1.Sniper2 motherboard, the 1155 version of the socket 1366 G1.Sniper and little brother to the G1.Assassin we reviewed in the June 2011 issue of Maximum PC (and by "little," we mean it doesn't require a honking XL-ATX chassis, a standard ATX case will do just fine).
The G1.Sniper2 is built around Intel's Z68 chipset and wields the same weapon inspired motif as Gigabyte's other G1 boards, most notably the magazine shaped heatsink Gigabyte clearly warns is "not a weapon. Cannot be assembled as a weapon," just in case you were wondering.

Gigabyte's S1080 Windows 7 slate now up for US pre-order, ships July 1st for $650

Posted on Jun 21, 2011 by MG1

After having first gone on sale in Taiwan, and later Australia, it's only fair that Yanks now have a shot at Gigabyte's monstrous Windows 7 slate. You may recall the S1080 for its 320GB drive, dual-core Atom N570, Ethernet port, and (curious) VGA output. Or perhaps you were stoked on that optical mouse and tactile mouse button combo. Well, all that stands between you and your future LAN-partying, tablet-toting self, are 650 clams and a handful of days -- you know, given that scheduled ship date of July 1st. Rounding out the remaining specs are 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, 1.3 megapixel webcam and a USB 3.0 port. If the thought of a Windows 7 slate with a mouse and a smattering of ports h...
