Gigabyte Boasts 7.032 GHz CPU Clock Record on Ivy Bridge

Posted on Jun 05, 2012 by MG1

In our recent overclocking review of the Core i7-3770K, we showed what Ivy Bridge can do on air and its limitations compared to previous Sandy Bridge CPUs. Gigabyte, with the help of overclocker HiCookie, set out to show what the Core i7-3770K can do on liquid nitrogen cooling and Gigabyte motherboards. HiCookie was able to surpass the 7.0 GHz milestone using a Core i7 3770K processor, while pushing the Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H motherboard to a fully validated 7.032 GHz using liquid nitrogen cooling. This is regarded as the current highest Ivy Bridge CPU frequency and a world record according to global overclocking website HWBot.org.

Gigabyte to unveil X11 on May 31st as lightest laptop ever, spooks us with talk of 'sixth element'

Posted on May 24, 2012 by MG3

Gigabyte is clearly hoping to carve out a name for itself in a very crowded ultraportable space; it sent us word of a media event for a new X11 laptop in its native Taipei on May 31st, just a few days ahead of Computex. The PC designer claims that the X11 will be the "lightest notebook on Earth," a pretty audacious claim considering the featherweight competition. Most of the braggadocio, we suspect, is rooted in the choice of material: Gigabyte is promising rather ominously to "conquer the 6th element," and unless it's financing the sequel to a Luc Besson movie, we're reasonably sure the firm means extra-light carbon fiber. Other details are scarce, including whether there's any relation to ...

The mouse features a multi-macro button layout that's symmetrical. The main USPs of Krypton, apart from its ambidextrous design, are a very high tracking resolution (exact figure not known); a "gliding feet" design that suspends the mouse slightly higher, with lower surface contact, to reduce friction; and of course adjustable weight. More details are awaited.
