3G-equipped Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 hits the FCC with bands for AT&T
Like UnlikeFiled in: NotebooksSamsungAT&TGALAXY Tab 8.9
Samsung's mid-sized Galaxy Tab 8.9 has been a bit elusive as of late, but it's now landed in the spot where all devices go to prepare for their big debut: the FCC. What's more, this particular model isn't just WiFi-only like the current Galaxy Tab 10.1 -- it also sports 3G connectivity, and the bands specified in the FCC filing indicate that it's likely headed to AT&T. Interestingly, we've already seen this model number (GT-P7300) pop up at the FCC before, at which point we thought it was the WiFi + 3G version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1. But the more detailed sketch in this latest filing seems to depict a device that's both smaller and ever so slightly tweaked (including a relocated headphone ja...

FCC report doesn't tip how it will rule on AT&T, T-Mobile deal
Like UnlikeFiled in: T-MobileAT&T
A new report from the Federal Communications Commission isn’t tipping its hand on how it will come down on the potentially huge AT&T, T-Mobile deal.
The governmental agency said, “a merger can potentially form a stronger provider that restrains competitors from engaging in anticompetitive behavior, or may increase the likelihood that the merged firm may itself, or in coordination with other firms, would obtain or maintain market power.” So, basically the FCC is saying the AT&T, T-Mobile deal could be a good thing or it could be a bad thing. Thanks, guys!

PC Mag just finished its extensive annual test of the nation's carrier networks, and the results are in. After driving with six people for 6000 miles, and using 16 smartphones in the process, more than 140 000 tests were made in 21 major cities, with specialized software supplied by Sensorly, to measure the network coverage and speeds of Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, MetroPCS and Cricket.
Without going much into the details of it by geographical area, we'll just list what the tests found as an end result. When facts talk, marketing walks, so have a look at the charts below that say it all. Hit the source link, if you want a breakdown by region or city - the 21 test cities were Atlanta, Bo...

LulzSec says good bye with leaks on AT&T's plans for 4G LTE enabled Apple iPad 3 and iPhone 5
Like UnlikeFiled in: AT&T
The 6 anonymous hackers known as LulzSec said farewell to the public by revealing that among the information gleaned from their last day hacking was a leak of AT&T's internal documents. Going through the information, Jonathan at iFans found what appears to be information outing the LTE 4G enabled versions of the Apple iPad 3 and Apple iPhone 5.
A calendar that was part of the info release shows that next month, AT&T will have a production launch of its LTE service followed by a rollout of the service in 10 markets in September. A power point presentation discusses an Apple iPad 3 launching in the fall or next March. And since this is written under the heading "LTE status", it would probably...

26-year old pleads guilty to hacking AT&T iPad data
Like UnlikeFiled in: NotebooksAppleAT&TiPad
Last year hackers made headlines when AT&T announced to a security breach that had allowed hackers to access the personal data from 114,000 iPad 3G users. On Thursday, 26-year old Daniel Spitler from San Francisco pleaded guilty to two crimes: conspiracy to gain unauthorized access to computers and identity theft. Spitler faces up to 10 years in prison — five years for each count, according to The Wall Street Journal. “Computer hackers are exacting an increasing toll on our society, damaging individuals and organizations to gain notoriety for themselves,” said U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman in New Jersey. “Daniel Spitler’s guilty plea is a timely reminder of the consequences of treating criminal...

T-Mobile, AT&T Deal May Hurt Retailers, Employees
Like UnlikeFiled in: T-MobileAT&T
You didn’t think you were the only ones potentially being screwed over by this whole T-Mobile and AT&T thing, did you? The deal between the two wireless operators had us focused on the potential outcomes for customers, but we’ve just been reminded that their employees are going to be seriously affected, too.
The Wall Street Journal reported that out of the 9,200 AT&T and T-Mobile stores nationwide, 41 percent of these stores are within one mile of each other. This creates a problem because, if the FCC approves this deal, some stores will have to be closed. That means you’re out of luck if you own one of the selected stores.
AT&T’s interest in T-Mobile is purely for its resources. The deal me...

AT&T sees Q1 2012 approval for T-Mobile acquisition
Like UnlikeFiled in: T-MobileAT&T
Because of the size of the deal, AT&T's planned acquisition of T-Mobile for $39 billion must get approval from both the FTC and the Justice Department. Those who oppose or are in favor the deal had until Monday to register their opinion with both agencies. You can be sure that Sprint CEO Dan Hesse had a few choice words to pass along to the government as he has been the most vocal in the industry against the deal.
