If you love the movie Braveheart, and are in possession of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 slate, you might give the newest way to run Android Ice Cream Sandwich on it a try.
The code of the custom ROM is compiled from various pieces of the CyanogenMod 9 project, which is en route to grace numerous devices with ICS before they are officially hit with Google's newest mobile OS version. Therefore some of your Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 features won't work for now, like the rear

Latest update brings TouchWiz to Verizon's Galaxy Tab 10.1
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSamsungVerizon WirelessGALAXY Tab 10.1
When Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 first launched earlier this year it was running a stock version of Honeycomb. At CTIA 2011, the South Korea-based vendor showed off its TouchWiz user interface and promised an update for tablets in the near future. While Wi-Fi versions of the slate were updated soon after the announcement, Verizon’s LTE variant was left untouched — until now. Verizon is currently pushing an over-the-air update that brings TouchWiz along with other fixes and improvements to the Galaxy Tab 10.1. TouchWiz includes numerous custom widgets, a mini app tray, and various “Hubs” for social media, reading, and music and videos. Other additions for the device include support for DivX vid...

Galaxy Tab 8.9 gets a taste of homemade Ice Cream Sandwich
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSamsungGALAXY Tab 8.9
So we know that Google's latest and greatest OS is headed to the Galaxy Tab 8.9 at some undefined point in 2012. But Samsung's promise of a future update just isn't enough to sate the appetites of a certain enterprising subset of Android users. With their hunger for Ice Cream Sandwich guiding their hands, a trio of XDA members decided to whip up a homebrew version of 4.03 for their Sammy tabs. While the bootable builds, of which there are now three, are far from complete, an update over on the site's dedicated forum notes that Bluetooth, GPS, hardware acceleration and the accelerometer are now functioning, with efforts continuing to enable WiFi. If you were hoping to sample a slice of these ...

Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab not getting ICS
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsTabletsSamsungGoogleGalaxy SGALAXY TabAndroid 4.0
Just recently, Samsung updated us on its Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) update schedule and which devices are getting it and to our great disappointment the Samsung Galaxy S and the 7-inch original Galaxy Tab are not in there. The latest models of the company are, of course, getting the update: the Samsung Galaxy S II, S II LTE, Galaxy R, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Tab 8.9, Galaxy Tab 7.7 and Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus. But that’s little consolation for those owning Samsung’s 2010 flagship or Samsung’s first tablet.
Interestingly, the Nexus S, which is very similar to the Galaxy S, is getting ICS. Why is it so then that the Galaxy S is not? Samsung explains that it’s because of a combination of factors: usi...

Google will begin promoting what could be the first official Nexus tablet within the next six months, according to chairman Eric Schmidt, the latest stage in the “brutal competition” between it and Apple. “In the next six months we plan to market a tablet of the highest quality” Schmidt told Italian newspaper Corriere della Sea, while also confirming that Google plans to leverage its voice recognition technology to better challenge Apple’s Siri.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Delayed in Australia (Again)
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSamsungGALAXY Tab 10.1
Samsung was dealt another setback this week in its bid to sell the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia when a court again delayed its release in the country so Apple could file an appeal.
Earlier this week, the full Federal Court of Australia overturned an earlier ruling that banned the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the region. The device was temporarily banned due to a patent dispute with Apple.
As reported by Reuters, that ban was scheduled to be lifted at 4pm GMT on Friday, but the court today extended it to Dec. 9 so Apple can file its objections.
In its ruling earlier this week, the full court found that Justice Annabelle Bennett did not adequately assess the strength of Apple's patent claims when she al...

Australian court extends Samsung Galaxy Tab ban
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSamsungGALAXY Tab 10.1
Samsung was dealt another setback in its attempt to sell the Galaxy Tab in Australia. Instead of launching the Galaxy Tab Friday at 4 pm, the Korean company must now wait until December 9th. It’s a significant setback that’ll cost Samsung a week’s worth of holiday sales.
Earlier this week, the Australian Supreme Court overturned the injunction that banned sales of the tablet device. Apple appealed this decision and, just as Samsung was ready to kick off sales, the Cupertino company was granted a week long extension to argue its case. This delays the Galaxy Tab’s launch by yet another week and leaves Samsung and its customers in the lurch.

Apple seeks to ban Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1N in Germany
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSamsungAppleGALAXY Tab 10.1
Samsung’s tweaks to the original Galaxy Tab 10.1 weren’t enough to satisfy Apple’s legal team. Apple successfully banned Samsung’s German subsidiaries from selling the Galaxy Tab 10.1 after it accused the South Korea-based company of patent infringement. Samsung responded by releasing a modified Galaxy Tab 10.1N tablet it believed had addressed all of Apple’s concerns. Unfortunately, Apple isn’t satisfied with the changes and it wants to ban Samsung from selling the new tablet as well. A hearing for Apple’s request for an injunction is scheduled for December 22nd, Dow Jones Newswires said. The two companies have been locked in patent-related legal battles around the globe and currently have ...

Ban on Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1 reversed by Australian Court, Apple to appeal
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSamsungAppleGALAXY Tab 10.1
Last month, Apple won a preliminary injunction from an Australian court which in effect banned Samsung from selling its flagship tablet, the Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1, in the country. Apple had alleged that the Korean based manufacturer infringed upon its patents and the court initially agreed. Hoping to somehow salvage the holiday season, Samsung quickly appealed the ruling with the company's lawyer Neil Young (who does not have a "Heart of Gold") saying that the tablet was dead if it could not be offered for the holiday season.
As we reported last week, the Australian appeals court seemed to agree with Samsung's position that banning the tablet from being sold in the country was too harsh of...

Australian Galaxy Tab 10.1 ban 'not terribly fair' to Samsung, appeals judge says
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSamsungGALAXY Tab 10.1
An appeals judge in Australia recently said that a ruling which banned Samsung’s local subsidiaries from selling the Galaxy Tab 10.1 was unfair to Samsung. “The result looks terribly fair to Apple and not terribly fair to Samsung,” federal court justice Lindsay Foster said on Friday. Samsung’s lawyer Neil Young said the lawyer in the original case, federal court justice Annabelle Bennett, failed to take into consideration the “dire consequences” that the ban would have on Samsung during the holiday shopping season. “We contend that the primary judge made a series of fundamental errors in her disposition of the interlocutory application,” a Samsung attorney said. “They were all errors of prin...

Cyanogen 9 coming soon to Galaxy Tab 10.1
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSamsungGALAXY Tab 10.1
The last we had heard, Cyanogen 9, which is based on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, wouldn't be rolling out for a couple months, or at least we shouldn't bother asking Team Douche about it for a couple months. But, now it seems Galaxy Tab 10.1 users may get in on the fun much sooner.
Just last week Steve Kondik, founder of Cyanogen, tweeted that work had begun on Cyanogen 9. A mere four days later, he posted on Google+ (he plussed? he GPed? We need a good verb for it...) and said that Cyanogen 9 is "great" on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, and should be "coming soon" to CyanogenMod mirrors.
We expected work on Cyanogen 9 to go faster on Honeycomb tablets because the drivers for those devices...

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 pays a visit to the FCC

Just a couple months after the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 vanished from their booth at IFA due to an injunction filed against them it has resurfaced for a return trip to the FCC, this time packing 3G bands as well as support for HSPA+…
The Galaxy Tab 7.7 is a tablet for the individuals that will find the Galaxy Tab 7.0 plus to be too small while the Galaxy Tab 8.9 is too large. Samsung seems interested in having a tablet for a whole variety of hand sizes. The display itself is of the Super AMOLED Plus type which should be a joy to gaze at. Powering the device behind the scenes is a dual-core 1.4GHz processor as well has 1GB of RAM. Of course, this is an Android 3.2 Honeycomb tablet that also ha...

Samsung delivers Android 3.2 Honeycomb update to Galaxy Tab 10.1
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsTabletsSamsungGoogleGALAXY Tab 10.1Android 3.2
Last week, Samsung released an update to the Galaxy Tab 10.1 that brought along Android 3.2 Honeycomb to the slate. Unfortunately, it also broke a few important functions, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and others on a number of users' tablets. As a result of that, Samsung quickly halted the roll-out of the update to fix the issues. Now, the company claims that it has resolved all of the problems with the upgrade and has started distributing it to users once again. Owners of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 should get a notification on the tablet when the update is ready to be downloaded and installed. It can also be installed from Samsung's Kies desktop app on a PC.

Samsung's modified Galaxy Tab 10.1N for Germany gets examined
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSamsungAppleGALAXY Tab 10.1
As you may recall from earlier this week, Samsung has started selling a slightly modified version of its Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet in Germany to satisfy a recent court ruling, which deemed the original model a little too Apple-like in some respects. Just how modified is the new 10.1N model? Well, you can thank NewGadgets.de for our first real look at it. As expected, the changes are all found around the edges of the device, including a more pronounced metal lip that creeps further across the bezel, some repositioned speakers, and... that's about it, really.
