According to a poll taken by allaboutsymbian.com, a little less than half of the users of a Nokia Symbian device would consider purchasing a Windows Phone from the Finland based manufacturer.

Nokia putting in Windows phone orders from Foxconn also

Last we heard Nokia would be using Compal as an ODM for the Nokia Searay.
Now Digitimes reports that Nokia has begun releasing its orders for Windows Phone 7.5-based smartphones to both Foxconn International Holdings and Compal Communications.
This is pretty good news for prospective Nokia customers, as Foxconn, who famously also ODMs the iPhone, has a reputation for high quality, unlike Compal who frankly does not.
While there is no way of knowing, given that the Searay was connected with Compal, it may be that the Nokia Sabre or Nokia Ace will be made by Foxcon instead, and represent a somewhat better device, irrespective of specs.

T-Mobile Germany starts prepping for Nokia Windows Phone

Some marketing materials from T-Mobile Germany have given us a few details on what to expect from Nokia’s first Windows Phone. It’ll be running the recently-released Mango update, have a 3.7-inch convex AMOLED touchscreen, and include a navigation app with 3D rendering and voice control. Most of that we’ve already heard in previous Sea Ray leaks, which suggest the device will also have a 5 megapixel camera, and a chassis roughly equivalent to Nokia’s one and only Meego handset, the N9.

Although Nokia still hopes Windows Phone will round out a "three-horse race" with iOS and Android, it's said to be cooking up an entirely new operating system aimed at lower-end handsets. According to the Wall Street Journal, the OS (codenamed "Meltemi") is meant to cement Nokia's top dog status in emerging markets, where feature phones remain king. Makes sense: low-end phones accounted for 47 percent of the company's device-and-services earnings in the second quarter. We're not sure if the adage "when one door closes, another one opens" exactly applies here, but either way, it looks like we've hardly seen the end of software updates out of Suomi.

Nokia may be taking a cue from Microsoft and paying developers to support Windows Phone, sources maintained Friday. In return for agreeing to write apps, teams are said by CNN to be getting both cash incentives and extra perks. These bonuses could include the gem, being preloaded on Nokia phones, or getting prominent placement in Nokia's own Windows Phone app portal.

As Nokia prepares to unleash its first iteration of Windows Phone 7 handsets upon the world, reports have come in that the Finnish phone giant is preparing its own voice navigation and 3D maps software for the Mango OS.
The reports that come in from WinRumors, say that an anonymous tipster sent in "images of some marketing posters that T-Mobile in Germany is currently preparing for its Nokia Windows Phones. The posters were briefly displayed at T-Mobile’s on-site shop at the company’s corporate headquarters in Bonn, Germany."

Asus: We're Not Abandoning MeeGo

Yesterday Intel announced it was reducing (rather than "ditching") support for MeeGo, a failed Linux collaboration with Nokia, in favor of an open-source Linux build called Tizen that it is developing with Samsung.
So does that spell the end of MeeGo-equipped devices? Absolutely not, said an executive from Asus.
"We will continue to ship MeeGo products and look forward to Tizen," Gary Key, Asus technical marketing manager, told PCMag. In May, Asus resuscitated MeeGo by announcing the Asus EeePC X101 at Computex in May. Click on the slideshow below for a hands on.

Microsoft And Nokia Release Windows Phone Porting Guides For Symbian Developers

Microsoft and Nokia have teamed up on a package of new tools aimed at getting Nokia developers prepared for the transition to Windows Phone. Announced today are three jointly developed tools and guides, the most notable being the addition of Symbian Qt to the Windows Phone API mapping tool.
The Windows Phone mapping tool, which already supports iOS and Android, serves as a translation dictionary between the Windows Phone platform and other mobile operating systems. With it, developers can pick out the API calls in their apps, then look up the equivalent classes, methods and notification events in Windows Phone.

There's not been too much to write about on the Nokia Windows Phone front lately, which is always a worrying sign that a launch delay is inevitable. But Nokia is adamant that it will still be launching its first range of Windows Phones in 2011.
This is according to the official Nokia Twitter account, which promises that we will see some phones in Q4, with the majority of stock coming in early 2012.
"We cannot confirm local availability but the 1st Nokia w/ WP devices will ship in Q4 and with volumes in 2012," explained the tweet.

We have to admit it, Nokia did well in making us believe that Symbian is a burning platform. After webOS got on the backburner, now MeeGo is receiving a fatal blow with Intel freezing its development efforts citing lack of partner interest. When Nokia announced it will go the Windows Phone way, Intel vouched to keep MeeGo thriving on its own, but the market obviously had other intentions.
Nokia N9, running MeeGo Harmattan, is actually a quite innovative handset, which proves the potential of MeeGo, but in the cutthroat mobile industry there is just very little space for more operating systems.
