Acer's Android 3.1 (codenamed Honeycomb) update for its Iconia Tab A500 tablet has leaked out. It first appeared on the Chinese website bbs.gfan.com While this update isn't official in the sense that Acer has not yet released it via its own channels, it is the real deal. The leaked update.zip file supports multiple languages and including Google Apps. This means that Android 3.1 ROMS like HoneyVillian and Minimalist 3.1 are no longer required for Iconia Tab A500 owners.

Acer lowering notebook shipments too as iPad bites deeper

Acer lowering notebook shipments too as iPad bites deeper

Posted on Jun 28, 2011 by MG1

Acer's significantly lowered estimates include full-size notebooks as well, part suppliers divulged Monday night. The PC builder is now planning to drop its total notebook shipments from 6.4 million to 5.4 million. About 80 percent of the drop slipped out to Digitimes is the original netbook plan, but 20 percent will come from regular portables.

Shipments should hit nearly 1.5 million in July and climb to as many as two million notebooks in August with a similar amount in September. The move should be enough to purge Acer's excess stock.
The shortfall is partly attributable to the "abnormalities" the company reported earlier, where unsold stock in Europe is being cleared out at a discount. ...

ARM-Based Notebooks Are On The Way

ARM-Based Notebooks Are On The Way

Filed in: Notebooks

Unnamed sources are reporting that industry heavyweights Samsung, Toshiba, Acer and Asus are currently working on notebooks using ARM-based processors, one of which is a 13-inch solution from Asus using Nvidia's ARM-based Tegra and Google's Android OS.
But the sources also pointed out that ARM-based notebooks sporting an Android OS hit the market a few years back under the "smartbook" name. These essentially tanked because consumers expected the same compatibility and performance seen with traditional laptops. However, this new round of ARM-based notebooks should be more successful given that the processors are multi-core and storage capacities have inflated. And thanks to the beefed up proc...

Archos announced new G9 Android tablet series

Posted on Jun 24, 2011 by MG1

Archos has been one of the few companies that have been bringing tablets to market at incredibly low prices, and was one of the first to bring an Android tablet to market, even if it was barely notable. The company had released updated Android tablets for insanely low prices, but the build quality and materials used have all been questionable. Well, that may have changed this time around, as Archos recently announced the next generation of its Android tablets, the G9 series.
The two tablets, named the Archos 80 G9 and 101 G9, are definitely a step up in specifications from previous offerings and both pack some nice specifications. Both tablets differ in only the slightest of ways: the 80 G9...

ASUS rumored to have 13-inch Android laptop on its mind, NVIDIA expected to provide ARM CPU

Posted on Jun 23, 2011 by MG3

Some might argue that ASUS already has an ARM-powered Android laptop in its inventory thanks to the Eee Pad Transformer, however the company's now been identified as planning a more spacious 13-inch notebook device, whose power and pricing could well be even more attractive than the Transformer's. We should naturally be wary of the source here, DigiTimes having a record that's as patchy as the grass at Wimbledon after the first week's play, but the Taiwanese rumormonger says ASUS has already made launch plans for this 13-incher and will be using "NVIDIA's processor" inside.
