Intel 8-Way Multi-GPU MIC Knights Ferry demo
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsMotherboardsIntel
Intel was running a real-time ray-tracing demo of Wolfenstein at the IDF in San Francisco. According to xbitlabs to achieve this feat, the company used a 2-way Xeon server with eight Knights Ferry graphics cards.
At the Intel Developer Forum 2011, Intel Corp. showcased a system running a new version of its real-time “Wolfenstein” ray-tracing demo. In order to render the game scenes in full HD (1080p) resolution and with additional visual effects, Intel had to use a 2-way Xeon system with eight code-named Knights Ferry compute accelerators.
The up-to-date Wolfenstein game is rendered through a real-time ray tracer with several special effects that haven’t been possible before in games with.....

MSI's reverse fan tech keeps dust out, graphic cards chilled
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsMSI
We've all been there, trying in vain to remove dust caked onto the fans of componentry inside our rigs. It's mostly a fruitless endeavor, but here to save us from the horde of dust bunnies invading our graphics card is MSI's dust removal technology. Available on the company's "Lightning Xtreme" edition of the GTX580, soot is annihilated by spinning that card's fans at full throttle in reverse for thirty seconds after boot. That's apparently an effective method for flinging accumulated grime off the spinners and (hopefully) into a spot you can actually reach. Unconvinced it'll work? Well then, mosey on over to the source link bub, and prepare yourself for video proof of the fan-powered filth ...

POV: GeForce GTX 550 Ti with 4 GB memory? GeForce GTX 550 Ti with 4 GB memory!
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsPoint of ViewGeForce GTX550Ti 4096MB
I'm at a loss of words to describe what Point of View's 'point of view' could have been, when coming up with a GeForce GTX 550 Ti based graphics card that packs no less than 4096 MB of memory on-card. The company thinks that adding four times the normal amount of memory that runs at half the speed, DDR3 instead of GDDR5, could somehow spice up the specs sheet. Carrying the product code VGA-550-C1-4096, the card's DDR3 memory runs at 1066 MHz (2133 MHz effective) across a 128-bit wide memory interface, while the GeForce GTX 550 Ti runs at 900 MHz core. Its 192 CUDA cores are clocked at 1800 MHz. Point of view did not give out images of the card yet, but we understand it has one each of DVI, D...

Gigabyte is outting one more WindForce3 model, well its actually the ver same SO model we previously tested here, yet not with the framebuffer doubled up.
The GV-N580UD-3GI is the latest one featuring ultra Durable VGA components (reduce GPU temperature, adds 10-30% more overclocking potential and reduces power switching loss).
The WindForce 3X cooler boasts a vapor chamber, three PWM fans and just as many heatpipes.he VRAM.
Basically, the outfit implemented no less than 3 GB which, coupled with the 384-bit interface and the 4,008 speed, leaves little, if anything, to be desired.
Speaking of frequencies, the 40nm GPU (graphics processing unit) operates at 772 MHz, while the shaders (512...

Asus's MARS II GTX 580 graphics card revealed
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsASUSMARS II/2DIS/3GD5
Component and computer manufacturer Asus has unveiled its Republic of Gamers MARS II graphics cards, which ship with dual Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 chips.
The ever-modest Asus claim that the card is the world's "fastest, most powerful graphics card", and that it sets "new records in video and gaming excellence".
Each graphics processing unit runs 22% faster than reference GeForce chips, and Asus says this will let the card run DirectX11 games in resolutions higher than 1080p. Asus has also crammed 3GB of GDDR5 video memory onto the card.
Ever keen to worship the gods of thermodynamics, Asus has cooled the cards with two 120mm fans, which are said to move 600% more air than reference designs ...

Intel grows in Q2 2011 GPU market
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsIntel
Jon Peddie Research published its report about the GPU market in Q2 2011. The firm says GPU shipments were up 6.3 percent sequentially while PC sales grew just 2.4 percent, and that Intel made big gains in marketshare at the expense of both AMD and NVIDIA.
Between the first and second quarters, Intel purportedly enjoyed a 19.6% surge in shipments of graphics-enabled products, while AMD and Nvidia saw respective declines of 7.3% and 5.3%. Interestingly, JPR also says that Nvidia's slice of the discrete graphics market got 30% larger in the second quarter, reportedly because of design wins in many Sandy Bridge notebooks.
The research firm also sprinkles in a bit of news about the overall grap...

Intel's Haswell IGP to Feature DirectX 11.1, Increased Professional Application Support
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsIntel
Intel's integrated graphics processors have long had a poor reputation when it comes to gaming, and while the IGPs get a little closer to competitiveness with each iteration, that is still largely true. However, there's another area in which the chips are surprisingly competitive: workstation applications.
At least on paper, Intel's current IGPs are fully certified for high-end programs like Photoshop CS5, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks, and future Ivy Bridge and Haswell IGPs add a lot of other big names to the list. This slow build-up of certifications means that Intel solutions may begin to replace dedicated FireGL and Quadro cards from AMD and nVidia in low and mid-end workstations, another cont...

Nvidia promises to ship next-gen Kepler GPU this year (not!)
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsnVIDIA
Update (8/5): Nvidia has clarified a previous statement regarding availability of its next-gen GPU codenamed Kepler. In a nutshell, Nvidia won't be shipping any final products using the new silicon this year. "Although we will have early silicon this year, Kepler-based products are actually scheduled to go into production in 2012. We wanted to clarify this so people wouldn’t expect product to be available this year," said Ken Brown, a spokesman for Nvidia. Both AMD's and Nvidia's upcoming GPUs are slated to use a new 28nm process technology, with the likely possibility of brand new Radeon graphics cards making it into the market before the end of the year.
