THQ developer approves of Xbox 720 banning pre-owned games

THQ developer approves of Xbox 720 banning pre-owned games

Posted on Feb 07, 2012 by MG1

There is a growing amount of speculation that the next generation of Xbox consoles will know if a game is pre-owned and will prevent it from being played. This is causing a lot of anger from the gaming community at large, as you might imagine. But for the people who make games, it is seen as a boon to the industry, especially one Jameson Durall.
Durall, who was a designer on Red Faction: Armageddon, was quoted as saying, “There’s another big rumor about the next Xbox console that could really start to shake things up… it won’t play used games at all. Personally I think this would be a fantastic change for our business.” The way such a system would work would be for every Xbox 720 game to req...

Xbox 720 will not launch this year, Microsoft exec says

Posted on Jan 31, 2012 by MG1

Microsoft will reportedly not launch the highly anticipated follow-up to the Xbox 360 this year. Cedrick Delma, Microsoft’s marketing director in France, recently told Le Point that he was “certain” the Redmond-based company would not release a new Xbox this year. Gamers shouldn’t give up all hope on at least getting a glimpse at Microsoft’s next-generation console this year, though. BGR exclusively reported last June that Microsoft has plans to unveil its Xbox 360 successor during this year’s E3 gaming show in Los Angeles. A few Microsoft patents recently suggested that the “Xbox 720″ might double as a set-top box complete with DVR functionality, and a rumor last week also suggested that th...

Xbox 720 may be six times more powerful than the Xbox 360

Posted on Jan 26, 2012 by MG1

The Xbox 720, which BGR exclusively reported will likely be unveiled during E3 this summer, could be six times more powerful than the current generation Xbox 360. IGN broke the news earlier this week and said that the production of the Xbox 720′s graphics processing unit (GPU) is scheduled to begin by the end of this year. IGN said the GPU will be based on ATI’s Radeon HD 6670 GPU and should offer support for 3D technology, 1080p HD output, multiple displays and DirectX 11. Microsoft has also filed a patent that suggests the console will also offer DVR support, which has raised questions of whether or not the company will release two versions of the console, one with DVR support and one with...

Next Xbox console to be six times more powerful, headed for fall 2013 release?

Posted on Jan 26, 2012 by MG3

Xbox 720, Xbox Loop -- whatever Microsoft ends up calling it, that hot rod of a console looks to be on deck for a late fall 2013 release. According to IGN's sources, this successor to the Redmond gaming throne is purported to pack a GPU based on AMD's 6000 series of chips and will boast silicon circuitry that catapults its performance past Nintendo's upcoming Wii U by 20 percent. If you're looking for a more apples to green X's comparison, this next-gen console's graphical capabilities are also reportedly six times greater than its 360 progenitor. While MS is likely holding back its monstrous new platform for a big E3 reveal, it appears the company's still whittling down its spec list, with ...

NPD's latest games data has underlined just how dominant the Xbox is in the US, with Microsoft's console capturing 40 per cent all consumer spending from physical sales in 2011.
Although the figures do not include the increasingly prominent digital sales or downloadable content, people buying physical discs remains dominant, and it is clear that Microsoft's dominance is not on the wane.

Next Xbox and PS4 to be unveiled at E3 2012?

Posted on Jan 09, 2012 by MG1

Rumours are rife that this year's E3 could be one of the most important shows in gaming history, with the Sony PS4 and next Xbox to be announced.
Although both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are getting a little long in the tooth, both have performed admirably in the past year, and with the arrival of motion sensors for both the life-cycle of this generation's consoles is clearly not complete.
However, the announcement of replacements grows increasingly likely with every passing year, and respected industry magazine MCV is now stating that both Sony and Microsoft will choose this summer to announce the PS4 and Xbox 360 successor respectively.

Posted on Jan 06, 2012 by MG3

E3 2012 is shaping up to be a show to remember, as a new source claims that both both the Xbox 720 and Sony PS4 are due to be unveiled.
The show, which will take place in June, is expected to mark the full launch of the Wii U following its first airing at last year’s show. As such, the pressure is on Microsoft and Sony to provide something in the way of competition other than peddling their now ageing wares.
“You have my personal word on this – the source is exemplary, 100% concrete, ultra high level,” says MCV Editor Ben Parfitt when explaining that both Sony and Microsoft will definitely be bringing new hardware to the table.
