Samsung Galaxy S2 HD set for UK debut?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGalaxy S III
The Samsung Galaxy S2 HD, sporting a stunning 1280 x 780 screen among other tweaks, is already lined up for a US release and there are now reports that it could be heading to the UK.
We love the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the Super AMOLED+ screen certainly does not do it any injustice, but an HD screen would be the cherry on top of the icing on the cake.

Samsung commits to improve smartphone battery life in 2012
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsung
Sure, we all love having the latest and greatest smartphone from the likes of Samsung, but the power consumption driven by larger displays, LTE, and more use is making it increasingly harder to get through the day. Samsung's vice president of product innovation, Kevin Packingham, said in an interview with CNET that Korea's darling has set the lofty goal that smartphones coming out this year last an entire day under average to moderately heavy use. Samsung's plans include beefing up batteries, but it also intends to look at improving energy efficiency by tweaking the various radios -- LTE, WiFi -- to make them a little less greedy.

Months after Gingerbread's arrival, HTC Sense remains fussy, users can't get no satisfaction
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTC
Many HTC Sense users have experienced less than ideal conditions ever since their upgrade to Gingerbread. In an issue that's likely tied to the operating system's new memory management techniques, we've seen the launcher sporadically restart upon return to the home screen, and in rarer cases, cause Sense to revert entirely to its factory settings. While the glitch is hardly new, it's rather well documented and the longstanding nature demands a proper (and expedient) update from HTC. Until that moment comes, we've included a few tips to help affected users get through the day.

Motorola planning 24-hour Droid RAZR Maxx longevity event for February 6th?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesMotorolaDROID RAZR MAXX
Motorola's own website has pointed to a January 26th launch for the long-awaited Droid RAZR Maxx, but it looks like February 6th is the date to really pay attention to. With battery life becoming an even more serious concern due to the proliferation of life-sucking 4G networks, it's become obvious that companies are finally placing those longevity statistics atop their priority list.

Samsung has 'not made a firm decision' to merge Bada OS into Tizen
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsung
Bada and Tizen are two mobile platforms that haven't had much impact in the market — to be fair, Tizen hasn't yet had the chance to make its mark, but its predecessors (Moblin and MeeGo) certainly did. Bada, meanwhile, soldiers on only because its behemoth benefactor, Samsung, has continued to support it and offer a number of models — mainly in Europe and Asia — that slot in beneath its Android line.

Apple files German lawsuit against Samsung, targets Galaxy S II, nine other smartphones
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungAppleGalaxy S II
With patent infringement accusations going every which way in recent months, we're certainly familiar with Apple/Samsung banter in the international arena. Now Apple has thrown yet another punch at the Korean smartphone maker, targeting its Galaxy S II, Galaxy S Plus and eight other handsets, claiming -- yes, you've got it -- patent infringement. The suit was filed in Dusseldorf Regional Court -- the same venue that the company used to target the Galaxy Tab 10.1N, which was created specifically to sidestep a September injunction, also in Germany. It's becoming rather difficult to keep track of all the IP hubbub across the pond, but we'll surely be back with more as soon as the German court h...

Nokia Lumia 710 hitting UK on February 1st
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesNOKIALumia 710
While Nokia Lumia 800 has been available in the UK for some time now, its lower-end sibling Lumia 710 is yet to hit the stores across the country. Apparently, the wait will end soon with the Finnish company launching its entry-level Windows Phone device on February 1st. Orange and Three are on board to sell the new phone, though we’re sure third-party retailers will offer it on a number of plans from all (most) major carriers. The price is unknown at the moment, but it’s safe to bet you’ll be able to secure your unit for free on plans starting below 30 GBP per month. Unlocked, the device will probably sell for about 300 GBP, though we don’t have anything confirmed at this stage — it’s just m...

Motorola DEFY+ JCB limited edition lands in the U.K.

What is black, tough, and carriers a JCB logo on its back? No, it is not a piece of heavy machinery that we are dealing with here. We are talking about the limited edition Motorola DEFY+, which just got announced. What makes the Motorola DEFY+ limited edition different from the standard model is that it is coated with an extra layer of armor making it even more suitable for people working in the construction and engineering sector. The patented visco-elastic protective sleeve from JCB is there to protect the device from drops, spills, and other accidents that might occur in extreme environments. What further complements the experience is the list of software that comes pre-installed on the d...

Sony's upcoming Nypon handset to feature its WhiteMagic display with 1000 nits of brightness?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSony
The Sony Ericsson LT22i "Nypon" prototype that was leaked a while ago, is seemingly coming with Sony's new "WhiteMagic" display tech, if this new spec leak below is to be believed. Sony's upcoming Nypon handset to feature its WhiteMagic display with 1000 nits of brightness? Coming at qHD resolution with the Nypon, the WhiteMagic screen technology's main virtue lies in its 1000 nits of brightness in "outdoor mode", as much as the brightest mobile display out there, on the Nokia 701. Also, Sony claims that in regular mode, the display draws half of the juice that conventional LCDs usually do, which should do some wonders for the battery life on the Nypon. The handset was also pictured recently...

iPhone 4S jailbreak demonstrated on video
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
Prolific iOS hacker pod2g posted a video of a jailbroken iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0.1 to his blog. The video showing a clean reboot without a USB connection to the computer — aka, "untethered" — was made by Chronic Dev Team member DHowett, an illustrious iOS developer in his own right. Pod2g says "only a few to wait now" which is a good sign that an untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 is very near indeed, and about to join the untethered jailbreak released for A4 devices on December 27th.

Samsung Galaxy Note is coming to Verizon as the Galaxy Journal?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungVerizon WirelessGALAXY Note
Arguably, one can say that Verizon managed to do right by forgetting about the Samsung Galaxy S II, seeing that they eventually brought along the Samsung Galaxy Nexus before anyone else. Even though the exclusivity is short lived because Sprint is bound to start selling its own version soon, it simply goes to show how Verizon is willing to go above and beyond its rivals to get the best devices onto its lineup.
Well folks, it seems that we’ll be seeing that same mentality because the rumors point to the possibility of Big Red getting its own version of the ridiculously large smartphone in the Samsung GALAXY Note – yeah, the same one coming to AT&T officially. According to the rumors spewing ...
