O2 to get Galaxy Nexus in November

Google had mentioned that it would be launching the new Samsung Galaxy Nexus with partners around the world, and now O2 has unveiled itself as one of those partners with a new teaser page for the hot new device.
The page gives the general spec sheet information about the Galaxy Nexus that we've gone over plenty of times, and does mention it will include an HSPA+ radio for "up to 21 Mbps download speed". The big news however is that O2 looks like it will be a launch partner for the Galaxy Nexus as the site says the phone will be available to O2 customers in November.
Still no exact date given for release, but November is only a week away, so we're hoping we'll be getting some more specific ...

Google Galaxy Nexus with 4G LTE headed to Verizon this year

Verizon Wireless has announced that it will be carrying the Google Galaxy Nexus Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone this year. Verizon's edition of the phone will include 4G LTE support in addition to all of the other features packed into the HSPA+ version that will be headed to global markets.

For all the buzz around Samsung's latest hi-def smartphone, the absence of one little word has largely been glossed over. That word is "Plus" -- the wizened Galaxy S II has a "Super AMOLED Plus" display, for example, whereas the sparkly Galaxy Nexus is merely "Super AMOLED." Did the marketeers simply forget those extra hyperbolic keystrokes, or does the difference actually mean something?

Styli and Android haven't exactly been strangers as of late -- with devices like the HTC Flyer and Samsung Galaxy Note offering pen-based input -- but it looks like that option will soon be even easier to implement with Ice Cream Sandwich. As noted on Reddit, Google's recent overview of some Android 4.0 platform highlights includes a small tidbit towards the end that details the "full support for stylus input events" in the OS -- including features like pressure sensitivity and the ability to distinguish motion events from different sources (i.e. a pen and your finger). Of course, it still requires some hardware-level assistance from tablet and smartphone makers, but native support in the OS...

For those of you who like to be rather specific about your smart devices and their displays, it’s time to get down to brass tacks about the Galaxy Nexus and it’s OLED display. Specifically what we want to focus on here is the fact that when you’ve got PenTile in play (that is, on a Super AMOLED display like we’re seeing here) instead of NOT in play (like on a Super AMOLED PLUS display), you get loss of detail. It becomes important when you have a close look at how pixels are shared (or not shared, as it were with S.A.PLUS displays) and what that in itself means for sharpness of picture and text sharpness.

Samsung shipped more smartphones than Apple in Q3

The phone manufacturer willy-waving contest shows no sign of abating as a Samsung insider brags that the company shipped more phones than Nokia or Apple in the last quarter.
The Wall Street Journal cites "a person familiar with the situation", who said that Samsung shipped more than 20 million smartphones in the three months ending 30 September.
Apple has already revealed that it sold 17.1 million iPhones in its quarter that ended 24 September, while Nokia claims to have shipped a mere 16.8 million smartphones.

Looks like Verizon's got a hardware-crush on teensy 3FF Micro SIMs. The carrier's two latest 4G handsets, Samsung's Stratosphere and Motorola's Droid RAZR, both appear to make do with the diminutive cards. Neither, however, would be the first, as that honor was bestowed upon the carrier's version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1. If you're eager to call one of these devices your own, but already sport Big Red's LTE service, then get set to bust out the scissors for a little SIM card arts and crafts. Samsung and Google still haven't officially revealed which US carriers will be getting the Galaxy Nexus next month -- even though Verizon has been leaked, is shown in the official trailer (included after the break, look at 0:22), and there was a quickly-retracted Facebook confirmation earlier today. Now, the official signup page for release info on Samsung's site allows users to show their carrier preference between AT&T, Cellular South, Metro PCS, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular, and Verizon. It's hardly a confirmation this latest Android phone will ever be available on all of them, but even if you're not on Big Red, we won't kill your Ice Cream Sandwich dreams yet.

Samsung's Galaxy Nexus reportedly built to avoid Apple patent lawsuits

Samsung specifically designed the Galaxy Nexus to avoid patent lawsuits from Apple, Samsung’s mobile chief Shin Jong-kyun told Yonhap News Agency Wednesday. “We will see if it will be 100 percent free” from patent infringement lawsuits, he explained, noting that the current ongoing patent war with Apple is in its fledgling stages. “I think it is just a start and [the battle] will last for a considerable time,” Shin explained. “I don’t think there is much gain. Samsung Galaxy Nexus release date and specs leaked

With launch possibly only a few hours away, the Ice Cream Sandwich toting Samsung Galaxy Nexus has gone and gotten itself a tasty little specs leak. On top of that, a tweet from Japanese mobile phone network NTT DoCoMo points to a November launch for the handset.
DoCoMo states it will be "among the first" to stock the phone in November which has also made an appearance on a printed flyer produced by the network.
Gpad.tv got hold of the flyer, which features a full set of specs that appear to be in line rumours so far. That means a 4.65 inch Super AMOLED HD 1280 x 720 resolution display. On top of that you can expect a 1.2 GHz TI OMAP4460 dual-core processor keeping the handset ticking over, ...

Vodafone confirms Samsung Galaxy Nexus deal

Vodafone has contacted TechRadar to confirm that it will be stocking the new Samsung Galaxy Nexus when it goes on sale.
The new phone, which was announced at the launch of Google's new Ice Cream Sandwich OS, features a glut of top end technology, including a 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and a whopping 4.65-inch screen with 720p resolution.
While we were hoping for a more top end spec-list, there's no doubting that this phone will be pushed towards the more expensive end of Vodafone's range, so expect to pay north of £30 per month on a two year deal.

We got it straight from the horse's mouth here at Samsung and Google's Galaxy Nexus launch event that the future LTE edition of the Galaxy Nexus will indeed be thicker than the HSPA+ model showcased today (and above). How much thicker? "A little," according to a company representative, but he wouldn't go so far as to talk millimeters. When asked if the additional size was there to hold the LTE package or just a larger battery, he also failed to elaborate. We'd be shocked if the LTE variant doesn't pack at least a bit more juice -- we've covered the damage that LTE does to a battery in great detail here -- but frankly, we'd rather have something a wee bit thicker than a phone that dies after ...

Wondering what the 5 megapixel sensor within the Galaxy Nexus is capable of? So were we. We didn't have a huge variety of subjects to photograph here in our meeting room, but we ran about and captured as many as we could just for a quick comparison. As promised, snapping multiple pictures in a row was a cinch, with the camera taking just a fraction of a second before being ready to shoot again. In fact, we couldn't even tap the screen fast enough to find its limit. We have to say, though -- the built-in "Edit" menu could stand to be stronger. The "effects" were thoroughly underwhelming, and Instagram addicts will find plenty to laugh about. The croping and twisting, however, is appreciated. ...
