Samsung GALAXY Nexus training material for Verizon resellers leaks
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungVerizon WirelessGALAXY Nexus
Let's say you are a rep for a third party Verizon reseller and the Samsung GALAXY Nexus has finally been launched. If someone comes into the store asking questions about the device, you are going to be glad that Big Red provided you with some training material to study. "Yes, Mr. Smith, the screen on the Samsung GALAXY Nexus is the world's first HD Super AMOLED display allowing you to watch YouTube videos and movies in high-def.
Plenty of space on the training material was given to Google+ and its Circles, Hangouts and Messenger applications. Of course, Verizon provided a list of the Samsung GALAXY Nexus' game changing features such as the curved display which helps prevent scratches on the ...

Verizon Galaxy Nexus arrives in stores - Still just a tease
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGALAXY Nexus
While we’re pretty much in love with the GSM version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, there’s still no official US release date and not many people are willing to throw down $750+ for it. As you may all know at this point, the Galaxy Nexus’ first stop will be a Verizon Wireless and it looks like units are beginning to arrive in the house of Big Red.
Units have began to arrive in stores today, and the picture above is just a small glimpse of the retail packaging, which varies from the GSM version. This isn’t all that surprising, as we already know Verizon has weaseled in some bloatware applications into the handset.

T-Mobile Galaxy S II is the best smartphone T-Mobile offers
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungT-MobileGalaxy S II
Few days ago one of our readers sent me a question, asking me which is the best device in T-Mobile’s portfolio. I immediately responded – Samsung Galaxy S II.
First of all, T-Mobile’s Galaxy S II is pretty much the fastest Galaxy S II out there. Sure there’s AT&T’s Skyrocket version that sings along LTE, but as you probably know – LTE signal isn’t available everywhere. What’s more, even if you get it and presuming you’re in the area where both AT&T’s LTE and T-Mobile’s HSPA+ signals are rock solid – you would hardly notice a difference. T-Mobile’s version of Sammy’s superphone supports download speeds of up to 42 Mbps!

Google Wallet to be blocked by Verizon on Samsung GALAXY Nexus?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungVerizon WirelessGALAXY Nexus
While many potential buyers of the Samsung GALAXY Nexus didn't give it a second thought, others figured that they would be buying a device that would probably work with Google Wallet. Like the only other smartphone that supports Google Wallet (the Google Nexus 4G), the GALAXY Nexus will have the necessary NFC chip embedded in the battery door. Unfortunately, Verizon will not allow the first Android 4.0 phone to access Google Wallet.
The reason for this is quite simple. Big Red is one of the companies involved with Google Wallet competitor ISIS, which also uses NFC technology. Others involved with ISIS include manufacturers HTC, LG, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, RIM and Samsung. Other carriers inv...

Galaxy Nexus gets recovery images, for when your hacking joy turns to tears
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGALAXY Nexus
Like extreme stunts, hacking can be rather thrilling. Still, there will always be freak accidents when things don't go as planned, and thankfully, Google has released a safety net for you Galaxy Nexus adrenaline junkies. Specific to the HSPA+ model, the recovery images include the bootloader, radio, and full set of system files. No word yet about whether Google will perform a similar act of generosity for the LTE version that's coming to Verizon Wireless. Naturally, hacking your device is likely to void the warranty, but hey, there needs to be at least some risk involved, right?

Apple's request to block Samsung Galaxy tablet, phone sales in the US is denied
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungApple
As the legal drama between Apple and Samsung drags on around the world, US District Court Judge has rejected Apple's request to block the sales of Galaxy devices. Reuters reports the ruling came out late Friday, with the judge deciding "It is not clear that an injunction on Samsung's accused devices would prevent Apple from being irreparably harmed,". This isn't the first rejection for the folks from Cupertino either, after a request to speed up the trial was also denied back in July. The case itself will of course go on, but this means you'll still be able to get your hands on those Galaxy Tabs, Galaxy S IIs, and the like in the meantime.
Update: While Apple has yet to comment on the ruling...

Samsung holds on to top mobile manufacturer spot in U.S.
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsung
comScore has just released some numbers relating to the U.S. wireless market in the three months leading up to October, and Samsung is still on top, claiming 25.5% of all mobile subscribers (among smartphones and otherwise). The numbers haven’t changed too much since their September survey, so there aren’t a lot of surprises. LG was nexddt up, with 20.6%, followed by Motorola with 13.6%, and Apple with 10.8%. RIM’s handset market share predictably dropped -0.8%, while platform market share dropped 4.6%. Of course, the survey is only taking place in the U.S.; the BlackBerry brand seems to summon up a bit more excitement elsewhere in the world.

Verizon's Galaxy Nexus updated to Android 4.1.0, finally ready to dance?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsSamsungVerizon WirelessGoogleGALAXY NexusAndroid 4.0
A lucky human known as "Bradgog" posted the above screenshot to a thread on My Droid World last night, ostensibly heralding the arrival of Android 4.1 on Verizon's Samsung Galaxy Nexus. As you can see in the image (purportedly taken on Verizon's 3G network), the firmware update appears to bring a new baseband radio to the handset, which, in turn, may explain the delay in bringing the device to Big Red's stable. It's hard to say for sure, though we should have a clearer idea any day now.

Samsung Galaxy S II nearly explodes while in a man's pocket
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGalaxy S II
A man by the name of Silly22 on the XDA Developers forum recently posted images of a badly damaged Samsung Galaxy S II along with a mildly terrifying story of why it looks the way it does. The story goes something like this: a friend of Silly22 had the smartphone pictured below in his pocket when all of a sudden he felt a burning sensation in his leg. When he pulled the device out of his pocket smoke started coming out. The victim (how often do we get to use that word?!) says that his device is barely 2 weeks old and that he wasn’t even using it that heavily.

Galaxy Nexus goes on sale early in Germany, makes itself Handy
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGALAXY Nexus
Ein Handy to rule them all? If you're living in the Googleverse, then yes. The Galaxy Nexus has already offered itself up for rabid consumption throughout the UK and now, it's sending das Deutsche Volk into a tizzy. Various reports have the handset leapfrogging its German release date by a week and landing on shelves at consumer electronics chain, Media Markt, although prices seem to be all over the place -- ranging from €629 (about $847) to €529 (about $713). It doesn't appear all local outlets have the devices in stock, but don't let that hold you back from trying your luck anyway. Now, if only us statesiders could get a firm launch date for Rubin's frosty treat.

White Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket arriving on AT&T just in time for the holidays
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungAT&TGalaxy S II Skyrocket
The Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket was among the first LTE-enabled handsets on AT&T, and with its thin profile and dual-core chip, the only thing it was missing was... a white paint job. Well, at least that would have been nice and we can see how many would go for the white version. It seems that AT&T and Samsung also think this way, and the companies have announced that a white Skyrocket is landing on the carrier just in time for the holidays.
The pale Galaxy S II Skyrocket will arrive on the carrier on December 4th and is expected to retail for $249.99 with a contract, the same price as the original, dark version of the handset.
The Skyrocket features a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen wit...

Samsung Galaxy Nexus will get the Adobe goods like Flash and AIR in the next few weeks
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGALAXY Nexus
Adobe issued a statement that cleared up the confusion about Flash and AIR landing on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Previously it said that the ICS Flash update will come by year-end, and this stays the case.
The wait won't be long, as the minor updates to Adobe Flash 11.1 and AIR 3.1 that will make them ready to work on Android Ice Cream Sandwich, is coming in December.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus torn down, not the easiest to repair
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGALAXY Nexus
The great folks at iFixit have torn down the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and found the world’s first Ice Cream Sandwich phone is packed full of power but it may be a bit tricky to repair.
We know that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus sports a 1.2 GHz TI OMAP processor, a 4.65-inch 720p screen and NFC, so iFixit confirmed that by cracking it apart. The company gave the Galaxy Nexus a 6 on its “repairability scale,” which is an above-average grade, but not by much.
The rear case is very difficult to pry off, iFixit said, and you’d better be mindful not to drop the device because, “the glass is fused to both the display and the display frame. So don’t crack the glass unless you’re good with a heat gun, or you...

AT&T Reveals First LTE Phones: HTC Vivid and Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungHTCAT&TGalaxy S IIVivid
For a few months now AT&T has had an LTE network, but no phones that could take advantage of it. Well, that all changes today — AT&T has just announced that the Android-powered HTC Vivid and the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket will be the first to run on their LTE network, and will hit store shelves on November 6.
The HTC Vivid packs a 1.2GHz dual-core processor under the proverbial hood, and a 4.5-inch qHD display graces its face. A 8-megapixel camera capable of shooting 1080p video occupies the Vivid’s rear end, and 16GB of internal storage (expandable up to 32GB with the right microSD cards) rounds out the package. HTC has kept mum on the specific version of Android the Vivid runs, but it d...
